  • Skep Wax Records have a new Under the Bridge compilation out and Julian Henry has written a new song for it! The label put on a 3-band night at the Lexington this past Sunday and this was Julian's first public performance since, I think, the Sarah Records documentary celebration at the Arnolfini in Bristol in 2014 (which I missed as I was in the car on the way there and his performance was early!). Thank heavens for this sparkling gem of a show.
I loved being reminded of how many perfect pop songs Julian has written. And he shines even if it's just his voice and an electric guitar. This performance was much too short but filled me with absolute joy! It must be noted that his storytelling was also an essential element to how great this performance was. Listen to how the audience hollers in appreciation!
I absolutely LOVED his 'Cornish Pop Songs' album and wish he would have played a show or two to accompany this brilliant set of songs. I had a memorable Christmas in Newlyn around the time of its release and have fond memories of driving around that part of Cornwall listening to this album.
