    With the combination of the music and your voice, I will be adding this video to my bedtime playlist. I take that as a negative because I suffer from severe insomnia, so this will help very much

    Amazing video! The scenes and footage were great by themselves but your eloquent storytelling put it over the top. Loved it! Secret Beach looks fantastic, I can see why you enjoy escaping there. Its good to have these kinds of getaway spots. I have a few of my own in my area too.

    One of my favorite spots! It's a wonder you didn't roll up on me drinking a 40.

    I’ve been there several times myself. There is a lot of history there. I once found the original opening to the first canal facing Sand Island. From where your video was taken, if you walk east through the trees, you can see the LG&E power plant. Just on the other side of that is the old remains of the Tarascon Mill. The Tarascon brothers settled Shippingport Island and built a huge, simply massive flour mill of six floors on the corner of the Island. It burnt over 150 years ago but the foundation is still there. It was later used to grind up limestone they strip off of Corn Island to make cement for the canal. Ever been to the Portland Wharf? I do a lot of metal detecting in that abandoned town and I have found all sorts of stuff.

      What's the number address I'd like to visit myself

      @@josephjohnson8622 There is no address. The old lost town of Portland is no wooded and an open field. If your on Rudd Ave on Louisville, cross over the flood levee and you will be there.

      You should go! I love riding on the Louisville Loop West to Shawnee. Much safer there than on the East East with few trails and dangerous roads.

    Where exactly did you start the trip? Me and my wife are planning on biking around there this week and would love to check this spot out!

      I make it a short ride from the Big Four Bridge. As of right now, the bridge to Secret Beach is closed. I’m not sure when it will reopen. It’s only been open a few times since the pandemic. Here’s where you can get more info on the locks and contact info: www.lrl.usace.army.mil/Missions/Civil-Works/Navigation/Locks-and-Dams/McAlpine-Locks-and-Dam/

      @@DeniseLookingOut Thanks for that. According the Google maps the loop goes all the way to Shawnee Park and turns around. Is there anything blocking off the loop for us to get there and back that you're aware of?

    • @DeniseLookingOut
      @DeniseLookingOut  2 роки тому +1

      @@Claybraham91 so that part of the loop is not connected. At one point it was but flooding washed it away. When the trail ends at Montgomery. If you turn right, it will turn into Northwestern Parkway. That will lead you into Shawnee Park. From Shawnee, you can follow signs all the way out to Farnsley Morman on the Louisville Loop. That’s a 50+ mile ride from the Big 4 Bridge and back.

      @@Claybraham91 getting back is a bit trickier. Once you get back to Shawnee, you’ll have to take Market, which can be pretty busy. Then you can either take side roads to cut back to the trail or just proceed through downtown.

      @@DeniseLookingOut didn’t realize it was that long of a round trip. We’ll most likely hang out near the bridge area and maybe take advantage of Burger Week 😋.

    FYI, Louisville is not at all peaceful like this video. It's a wonderful city, but be aware of your surroundings at all times.

      Ummm that’s true anywhere but I’ve bikecommuted downtown for a decade and have never had an incident except with motorists who thought I didn’t have a right to be on the road.

      I lived in Louisville most my life. I watched the deteriation over 40 years. a person was shot and killed on Broadway once for simply stepping on someone's shoe crossing the street to McDonald's. I was almost mugged for $20 dollars. I was attacked walking to the collage campus from behind by a mental patient,because the facility she went to didn't allow them to wait inside.also there has been a repeat/killer sense the early eighties. Every summer almost there we're bodies found at the fourth and Winkler dumpster. There were so many women being attacked around campus they put in emergency panic buttons after three to four people were being knifed a month. And that's supposedly in one of the better parts. Portland's just covered in literal trash and garbage. Like wise by the hospitals. They do keep the river front fairly clean near where the river boats and river front park is clean. It's nice to visit,but don't go it alone. Bardstown road is pretty safe to. Never had issues there.
