Sh'lette transitioned for about 1 year and 3 months before finally deciding a week before her big chop she was ready to cut her hair. For the past year she alternated her transition styles between Senegalese Twists, Box Braids, a Sew-In, and Crown Braids. These styles were great in concealing the two textures of her hair!

Hair Info: 4b/4c Natural (Never had a perm)
If you've read this far give the video a thumbs up for the helpful info! :D
See you in my next video xo
I'm sorry but I have to comment.
Some of the comments the stylist is making don't add up. First of all she started to de-tangle the hair from root to tip. That is an absolute no-no, for natural hair and especially transitioning hair. That is one of the reasons she was having trouble getting the comb through her hair. There are shots in this video of her de-tangling from tip to root and vice versa. And she does state to de-tangle the fragile relaxed ends first, but in the video she is flip flopping back and forth between the two techniques. I especially cringed at the beginning when she began to de-tangle her dry hair from the root. She stated several times in the video that natural hair requires more "force" to de-tangle, and that just isn't true. When properly prepared, natural hair is much easier to de-tangle than you think. Force = damage. Hair should always be taken care of gently and with patience. I'm natural and I transitioned for 2 years and I must say that now that I am fully natural I find my hair easier to de-tangle. And I have extremely coily hair.
Second, she was trying to de-tangle on dry hair. Dry hair is weak hair. You should never manipulate hair (especially using styling tools like a comb) dry. I heard the stylist say "do not style with water", then in the next sentence say "use a moisturizer". Water is moisture, if you are truly using a moisturizing product then the first ingredient on the labels list will be water. And yes, if all you apply to style your hair is water then of course when it evaporates a couple of hours later then your hair will be dry. That is why techniques such as the LOC (liquid, oil, cream) or the LCO (liquid, cream, oil) method are utilized on natural hair to seal in moisture. So when your hair dries, the moisture hasn't evaporated from the hair. I utilize the LCO method to maintain my hair's hydration. My liquid of choice: good ole H2O. The best most effective natural and readily available moisturizer out there. I won't get into the rest of my routine because that is not what this post is about.
Third, I find it very disconcerting that the stylist is already recommending a protein treatment on her hair without even doing a strand test. Protein is not to be utilized without caution as all hair is not created equal and will not respond in the same manner. One person's hair may respond fine, while another person's hair may be protein sensitive. Protein can make hair, dry, brittle, and easily broken. That is why a strand test must be performed in order to see how her strands tolerate exposure to protein. As a professional stylist she should know this. You never put color, chemical, or any type of treatment on hair without performing some type of test because one just doesn't know how the hair will respond.
Lastly, the statement saying wash your hair no more than every two weeks is very generalized. You have to do what is best for your hair. I have to wash my hair weekly or products will build up on my strands and I wouldn't be able to impart moisture in my hair. Some people will have to wash their hair more frequently and others less. You will have to find out what works best for you and your hair. No two people will have the same experience in regards to the treatment and care of their natural hair.
Congratulations, your hair is beautiful, good luck on your journey.
girl I completely agree with some of things you've stated such as the water is moisture statement. me and the stylist literally debated about if water was moisture or not! I just cut it out! but still thank you so much for watching! 😌
You said everything I was thinking...she did a good cut for you, but I may not go to her to help maintain your natural hair. Your hair looks soft yoo
I agree. I just don't think she cared about the ends in this instance. Since she was going to cut them off.
Yes!!!!!!I agree with everything you said. They push that very expensive protein treatment on everyone coming through the door. They charge $40 for it. That was 2 years ago and I have never gone there again. First and last visit.
Yep..I did say they overcharge. They jack up your hair and drain your wallet. Never went again
She has no idea what she's taking about. water is key!
yassss it is!
i was thinking the same exact thing
I think what she was trying to say is that once water evaporates it is no longer moisturizing the hair. I have heard several hairdressers say that. That is why they say put a moisturizer with water being the first ingredient in it in your hair to keep your hair moisturized for a longer period of time. Anyway I like the outcome of the hair😊
+Kelsey T your suppose to moisturize the hair with water or a product with water as the first ingredient & then seal that in with an oil or shea butter, etc. yea just spraying it with water will not do anything.i agree & the video was wonderful by the way :)
I actually think she is making sense, you should never style soaking wet hair or believe just water is moisture, water does evaporate so it will be soft in the moment but after not so much.
I went to this salon once 2 years ago. They have me traumatized for taking my natural hair to salons. They DO NOT know natural hair. I told them more than once I did not want my hair straightened and they did it anyway. Lord knows I should have ran before it got that far. After she was done I was almost in tears. She asked me did I like it. My response was I'm going home and fix it. The straightened style she gave me looked like it belonged on and old lady. She said that's what you do that for (wearing my hair in its curly state). She treated my curls as if they were bad!! They had the nerve to call me for a return visit and when I told the guy why I was not satisfied he said she was trying to show off your length. I swear I dont know how these people call themselves a natural hair salon.
omg i'm so sorry you had a bad experience! :(
Lol a whole pregnancy! That's how I felt shoot, I big chopped last week I transitioned for a year and 2 months ; I was aiming for 2 but couldn't even hang lol. Your hair came out nice! ☺️👍🏾
This video made me so happy because I am transitioning and this video I sent set in Shreveport, Louisiana where I'm from. I recognized the setting before she said anything. 😆😆😝😘
why is she detangling her hair while it's dry! not recommended at all, a natural hair stylist should know that
Im astounded by what the stylist is saying. Makes me scared to ever go to a salon. The statements made in this video were extremely disheartening. On a happier note, you look BEAUTIFUL! All I'd recommend is that u have fun rocking ur true texture.. Whether that's a fro.. That's super curly, with no defined curl.. Really curly hair.. Whatever it is. Please don't get caught up in trying to find the perfect product to give u these "perfect spiral" curls that people are so longing for in the natural hair community. When we were relaxed, ppl were set on keeping their hair straight.. Natural ppl r set on keeping their hair in a particular curl. Just be u! Be natural! That's just my advice. Lol. You're gorgeous hun, be you and own it! 💖
yeah i think she meant don't just use water as a sole product for moisture as it does dry up. Use a conditioner as well so that the moisture stays. She could have worded it differently though.
Beautiful! That is still a lot of hair for a big chop.
Water is key. Do your own protein treatments. 2-3 eggs castor oil. Leave in overnight and get you Cantu products. Argan oil leave in conditioner. Super cute on you tho. Lol.
Jaqui Lockett thank you! watch the follow up video for her update!
I love the stylist dreads... loving your new do
I don't think she knows what she's talking about
Righttt 👀👀
Felicia Daley I know it seems odd but in all actuality she is right.
General tap water has chlorine in it chlorine is naturally drying to bouth the skin and hair. for example when you get in the shower after you step out if you notice your skin feels slightly itchy and dry this is because of the chlorine and other minerals in the water.
you can still use water as your main ingredient but you should add something to your hair before it dries so your hair won't be so dry after work.
Felicia Daley 😂 me either
so inspiring! love the vid
Congrats Queen !
She has very beautiful hair! Love the haircut
I went natural at one point and I didn't like it. I use the best relaxer on the market and it's called affirm fibrguard relaxer system. I may try and go natural again in the future. Great video!!
The end result is beautiful, it fits her perfectly
Beautiful hair!!!
Love it!
It looks really nice. I love it!
thank you!
lol i knew yall were in Louisiana!
Woahhhh so this salon is based in Louisiana? Yasssss🙌💕
she is absolutely beautiful 😍
looks great, congrats
WOW i beg of you, to any one watching and the beautiful young lady in this video... PLEASE DO NOT TAKE THE ADVISE OF THE STYLIST! Stay blessed :)
okkkkk
FacesByPureness in all actuality she's right water has chlorine which is drying to your skin and hair. have you have ever taken a shower and before you can get your lotion or body oil on your skin feels dry , itchy or tight this is the effect of chlorine.
you should try to use a sealant after you get out of the shower on your hair if you're not already. even if you just rinse your hair you should always put some type of product to help retain the moisture
Aww this was such a cute vid! Lol Congrats to her! I subscribed 😊
thank you thank you!
your hair is so pretty :))
Oh she is😎
Too too pretty! ♡
thank you!
wow Raque!! you did it!! congratssss :D your hair is so thick and nice shape too!! kudos dear!! i subscribed !!! congrats again ..! hey Raque, i do share my hair videos as well :D
thats why i only go to stylists for hairstyles i cant do. i know more about my hair than them and always be trying to act like you dont know what youre doing
Lol exactly. I really don't trust others with my hair. Unless I'm getting a protective style or some, I can do my own hair.
+Tweetiee_ okkkk
First of all i wouldnt IMAGINE styling natural hair WITHOUT water, secondly after she says to NOT use water she begins trying to pitch HER products as the solution. She does not know what she's talking about. She definitely shouldn't be detangling her hair DRY and she definitely shouldn't be combing from root to end. Thirdly she has dreads so she doesn't have to "deal" with her natural hair nor does she have to worry about detangling. Do NOT TAKE HER ASVISE !!!
*Advise
It really is gorgeous
I live in Shreveport too !!
I loved everything the stylist had to say and I love your hair boo 😊
Beautiful👑
Thank you!
omg😩💕💕
I think the stylist could have defined her curls more, but great head of hair! I was totally waiting for that frohawk though, lol!
i agree! and i actually have a video coming up on that so stay tuned! :)
Awesome! I'm 14 months into transitioning from relaxed to natural, so her big chop was really inspiring! Can't wait until the next vlog and thanks for responding!
I'm really glad it helped and thank you for watching!
You look fantastic young lady
That's why my red rinse out never rinsed out? I did it 2 years ago and it would have still been in my relaxed ends had I not cut them. Lol.
What ya hair type ps i love your hair. I'm 5 months post relaxer and i hope it will became 2 years 🤘🏼
thank you sweetheart! and i consider my hair type a mix of 4b and 4c.
Do you know the products she used and what she did because the results are beautiful😀
no i don't i'm sorry :(
New Subbie!
thank you queen!
It look like she in Shreveport, Louisiana 😌
If you're natural and you get sew in how can you keep its moisturized or do you still have to wash it every 2 weeks with the sew in still in your head
Killa K spray a leave in condish between the parts.
I'm currently 9 months post relaxed. Plan on big chopping after 1 year
taylor williams just a few more months! Good luck!
Thank You!!!
Update?
Makes me wanna big chop... 1 YEAR POST RELAXER NEXT MONTH 😁
>_> im laughing because... my hair has always been a brown, its never been black, even when I was fully natural? e. e i dont..
What was the price charged for the Services Rendered? I'm thinking she received, a shampoo, condition &(cut): bigchop?....did she even do the treatment I see she talked a good game but did she do a deep condition or treatment..... price comparisons are the best for my clients I'm always keeping records so as a Stylist I'm able to give my clients as awesome service while keeping the cost down to a fair reasonable average price..... ;-);-);-)
i believe it was $28 and no sh'lette chose not get any of the treatments maria offered.
Where did your friend get her arrow bar earring? 👀
Spencers
she is both wrong and right about the water. water has the possibility to be very drying to hair because chlorine that is in water. yes I know this sounds kind of odd being that everybody on social media and everywhere prices water for hair moisture
however there is an alternative you can buy a shower filter the cheapest one I found was by a company called Sprite just Google shower filters
did u say Shreveport, la
yes i did
Oh ok I'm in Alexandria,la love your video's
Please don't go to that salon. They will jack you up
how many months of transitioning???
Helena Dibi check the description box for a lot of FAQ
Raque P thanks😉
Raque P ohhh yeah I see😇
Lol how you tinder headed and had a perm that burns your scalp if u leave it on too long lol thats crazy to me .
I had to check the comments to see if I was the only one who thought the stylist doesn't know what she is talking about
also ALWAYS use water! what the heck!
I thought water was good for natural hair...
Coco Ward it is
Don't listen to her water is key for natural hair
This is amazing well done you're brave🙌🏾
And guys please check out my video on how i accidentally made a edge control all natural lol xx
I SWEAR SOME SOLON ONLY KNOW HOW TO STYLE....:(
I don't like it. But that's my opinion. She should had give you a twisted out.
that would have cost more
everything isn't about super defined curls
What do you mean no water !! You should have jumped outta that chair.
What! Don’t use water? She don’t have no clue about what she’s saying. Don’t believe that shit. Get yourself a good conditioner and oil and you use it to how ever your hair needs it. Only you know what it needs.
Oh no, this video made me cringe! Detangling while dry..noooooo 😨
this lady clearly does not understand natural hair... and she is yanking her hair by combing it totally dry instead of finger detangling because not only it's transitioning hair but is super sentive, she didn't prepoo her hair...that's why I don't go to hair salons...
