I regret buying the Rare Perfection 15. I keep it around for my friends to try this “esteemed” whisky. Remember friends, Canadian whisky tastes like poverty.
Received a Noah's Miil as a gift, tried to like it for 2 yrs. Ended up using it in a couple custom blends and an infinity bottle. High proof does always deliver insure taste.
I agree in the Penelope full proof toasted. I actually liked their lower proof toasted better. My wife bought that for me by mistake. Weird I generally like their higher proof stuff. I don’t disagree with most of your picks but I think most people agree on many companies lower proof cheaper buys that you listed. Those almost don’t need to be talked about. They are most peoples gateways into bourbon
You are spot on on the Benchmark. It's just really watery and lacking flavor. One bottle I regretted buying is Old Forester 1910. To me, it tasted like artificial oak flavored syrup. Interestingly, mixing it 50/50 with the Benchmark 8 made for a palatable pour.
I'm with you on the Tin Cup 14. the 10yr is always on my shelf and the 14 has never beat it in a head to head. Although, it's only about $23 more here in Colorado and always on the shelves. The only other regret recently was an ASW Resurgence Rye pick (finished in Port)...way too much like Balcones Rye for my liking.
What I love about you guys is you constantly save me money. Avoided so many disappointing bottles. Also love store picks as they let you try it and you know it is a hitter. Only disappointing bottle has been MM 46 cask strength.
Good list. Mine are Chattanooga experimental SB (tastes like grilled bell peppers), Shenks 2023 (not worth the hype/chase), Alberta Premium cask Strength Rye (meh), most starlight (too grainy), Mayor Pingree small batch bourbon/rye (too youthful).
I’d give the Penelope Toasted another chance. I had a bottle that smelled and tasted like kerosene down to the level you were at. I put it away for about three months and came back to very nice orange and citrus notes. It was very enjoyable after sitting those months.
I'm guessing the Michter's American is on your list because you're used to drinking higher proof and more flavorful whiskey. I personally think it's great for people just getting into whiskey because it's a very easy sipper. But I don't reach for it anymore either. 🤷🏻♂️
Most of my regrets come from bottles that don't actually taste bad, but just drink way too hot. Things like Old Forester single barrels, Larceny BP or 1792 FP. Jefferson Tropics was also basically a $40 markup on a bottle of Jefferson Reserve.
Man, you nailed it with the Yellowstone single malt! I was so excited to grab it: great distillery, great proof, and I love American single malts, but wow. It just falls flat. Tastes flat, actually. There’s just nothing going on.
Doc Swinson's Amburana finish (Bosso Nova?) ... wow, I sure wish I'd been able to try it first. I'm sure its great, but it absolutely destroyed my palate for a week. Hanger queen now.
Sam Houston 15 and 14 was being hyped by everyone a few years back. So I hunted and got them. They were undrinkable. That’s when I learned that you can’t trust the big channels that are getting quid pro quo to hype the latest.
First, I appreciate you guys. You’re the hardest working team on UA-cam. Second, you give us the bad with the good and for me I feel nobody is on your payroll and YOU TELL IT LIKE IT IS. Nice work gentlemen
Guess I’m fortunate that last Fall when at FT Nelson, my M10 bourbon package came with US1 bourbon not the American Whiskey. Don’t hate the American Whiskey, just don’t drink it ahead of all the other Michters I have. Fine in cocktails though!
Had a pour of Old Elk at a BBQ & Bourbon joint (because they were out of my 1st three choices on their menu 😕) and it seemed pretty good. Bought a bottle and have yet to enjoy it. Has a harsh ethenol note, and that's at only 88 proof.
I found a Nick Offerman 2019 Lagavulin for 30 under MSRP, I had never really tried much scotch before, but for that price on what was reviewed as a decent pour you know it had to come home with me...but it turns out my tongue only tastes burning muddy logs and band-aids.
291 M Colorado whiskey was horrible. I bought it when everyone was hyping up honey and maple finished whiskey. I agree with Old Elk, the only one I liked was their wheat whiskey.
Anything amburana I’ve had has been terrible. Definitely not my jam. Tastes like saddle wood incense. Jefferson’s Cabernet cask was way too wine forward too.
I have come to like it more than I did initially, but Hard Truth Sweet Mash Rye was something that got great reviews and everyone seems to like, but I just don’t care for it. It tastes as though it’s spoiled to me. I’m grateful I didn’t pay a lot for it, but I definitely paid more than I would have preferred for something I dislike this much. I don’t get what people like about this . . . cool cork?
My regrets are Penelope Architect French Oak yuck and Four Roses Select. Life is too short to drink bad whiskey one was given away the other down the drain.
Agreed on Old Elk. Only the double wheat was good. Cigar blend? Meh. My regrets: American Highway, Off Hours, World Whiskey Society port finish, Heaven’s Door Refuge, Blanton’s, Eastern Kille toasted barrel, French Lick M Gladden (store pick), Journeyman Not a King, Watershed single barrel.
I like Peerless; and think Baker's 7 is decent. But not a fan of Smoke Wagon UCUF, and KY Spirit was not as good as WT Rare Breed, so not worth the money IMO.
@@jeffnuzz Totally agree about Rare Breed. Why spend more for an inferior product? I need to revisit the Peerless. Mine is just the small batch bourbon, not a single barrel. Maybe it has opened up. I tried it twice right after I bought it and haven’t been back since. It’s probably been a year or so since I had it.
Woodford Double Oaked, OF 1910 just better at the same $. Basil Hayden, sooooo many people said they like it, I don't. It will be for guests. Ben Holladay BiB, it's good just not $60 good, I have bottles from $21-40 that are just better.
U have to have a bad bottle or something. I’ve got TC 14 batch one and two and they are excellent. My entire bourbon group loves them both. To each their own I guess.
@@pwrbomb1970 My bottle is from batch 1. It's a bit too bitter for my tastes, which I believe is a result of being proofed down so low. Higher aged stuff doesn't generally appeal to me unless it is higher proof. I knew that when I bought it, but I took a chance anyway. I'm glad to hear that you have enjoyed it though. It just isn't for me. Like you said, to each their own.
Only 3 bottles i regret, and davidson reserve, balconies straight bourbon and baby blue balconies. They are terrible, couldn't mix with anything. Just end up giving them away and cant believe y'all put penelope toasted and benchmark on this list.
I traded a MWND for a Blue Run Golden Rye. Worst trade ever. All of the whiskeytubes were going crazy about it. It is stunningly mediocre. Also Barrell Infinity Barrel. Just bad. Y’all paid over twice what I payed for Tin Cup 14. I’d be upset, too.

Thomas Moore Chardonnay cask finished, drain pour!

Agreed!
Gotta say Michters American is a good week day pour that lets you get to work the next day

Also agree on old elk so I second that statement.

I almost grabbed one of those ...glad I didn't now.
I’ll stick my neck out and say I prefer Michter’s American to all the other “regular” releases. Only wish it was at a higher proof
First, I appreciate you guys. You’re the hardest working team on UA-cam. Second, you give us the bad with the good and for me I feel nobody is on your payroll and YOU TELL IT LIKE IT IS.
Nice work gentlemen
Bench is 12 bucks….hard to hate…what 12 bucks chuck do you prefer?
Exactly... is a decent $12 mixer really hurting these guys? 😂
Have you had the rye for $100? If so what’s your opinion?
Benchmark 8 is the only one I see in my area. Would like to try some of the others.
Damn I like the tin cup 14. It’s tasty. I pay $65 at specs in Texas.
Guess I’m fortunate that last Fall when at FT Nelson, my M10 bourbon package came with US1 bourbon not the American Whiskey. Don’t hate the American Whiskey, just don’t drink it ahead of all the other Michters I have. Fine in cocktails though!
Regrets I have a few but here are the top. Woodford chocolate malt, Calumet 12, Calumet 16, Noah's Mill and Burnt Chair.
Had a pour of Old Elk at a BBQ & Bourbon joint (because they were out of my 1st three choices on their menu 😕) and it seemed pretty good. Bought a bottle and have yet to enjoy it. Has a harsh ethenol note, and that's at only 88 proof.
Ohhh Tin Cup 14 is $65 to 80. Angels Envy I’ve tried them and just can’t pour a second one.
Noahs Mill and most recently Lux Row double single barrel, waiting for the air to do something to the Lux
I found a Nick Offerman 2019 Lagavulin for 30 under MSRP, I had never really tried much scotch before, but for that price on what was reviewed as a decent pour you know it had to come home with me...but it turns out my tongue only tastes burning muddy logs and band-aids.
In Michigan we can't get the benchmark series, only number 8.
Chicago just got the full line up last week hopefully they are just expanding slowly so they can produce enough it's shelf stable
291 M Colorado whiskey was horrible. I bought it when everyone was hyping up honey and maple finished whiskey. I agree with Old Elk, the only one I liked was their wheat whiskey.
Kentucky Owl St Patrick’s edition,& Dickel x Leopold Rye.
I regret midwinter nights dram 2023 release. 145$ for a bottle that tastes medicinal almost like a NyQuil
Ya need to grab the rye toasted.
Anyone try lustyclaw.... instant regret lol. Atleast the bottle is cool
wow I liked cooper's craft 82.2 think yall might be harsh on that one just sayin. Penelope Toasted i tried was a pick and such a waste of 75 bucks!!
Michter's American Whiskey > Sour Mash and Rye
I’ve had no Old Elk that I’ve cared for. Only Penelope that I’ve not cared for is their entry level four grain bourbon.
Loxrow 12 yr was just disappointed in it.
New Riff single barrel select. I like the straight bourbon BiB much better and $10t less.
Everything Old Elk tastes young and grainy to me
I regret buying Clark & Sheffield BiB
I don't own any of these bottles, and now certainly won't. Good video.
Garrison Brothers small batch straight awful. Also that Old Elk I agree on as well.
My regrets are Penelope Architect French Oak yuck and Four Roses Select. Life is too short to drink bad whiskey one was given away the other down the drain.
Surprised you felt that way about Four Roses Select. I'm not a Four Roses guy but I thought it seemed like a quality pour with good mouthfeel.
I enjoy the Architect
I guess I'm not a French Oak guy.@@user-ob9os7ze6q
I tried and tried, but just couldn't get past the pallet. I agree the mouthfeel is a plus.@@BeThereAgain_BestServedNeat
Basically any finished bourbon
Agreed on Old Elk. Only the double wheat was good. Cigar blend? Meh.

You’re outta your mind cigar blend is great! 🎉
@@vervorYou know, that’s not nearly the first time I’ve heard that. Glad you like it.
I know someone who should be selling the Golden Apple, with Golden shoes and gilded bibles...🤔🤔
Was just waiting for dude to just start pounding Crown Green Apple out of the bottle. I feel let down
Regrets - some will be controversial:
Peerless Bourbon
Balcones Cask Strength Rye
Rowan’s Creek
Baker’s 7 (8 year-10mo)
Old Soul (standard release)
Wild Turkey Kentucky Spirit
Smoke Wagon UCUF
I like Peerless; and think Baker's 7 is decent. But not a fan of Smoke Wagon UCUF, and KY Spirit was not as good as WT Rare Breed, so not worth the money IMO.

I think Wild Turkey Kentucky Spirit was their attempt at a licour.
@@vikingsoftpaw unless it changed, probably not. The bottle I have is a 101 proof single barrel.

Woodford Reserve's Chocolate Malted Rye is my biggest regret.
Tin Cup 14 was really bad.
The 10 is okay, so I thought the 14 would be even better. Not even close.
It's terrible.
U have to have a bad bottle or something. I’ve got TC 14 batch one and two and they are excellent. My entire bourbon group loves them both. To each their own I guess.

Regrets - Penelope Toasted. Very astringent and bitter
That’s wild to hear, I got their char 5 and love it
Dave is right to shake his head with the Old Elk. Not my jam either.
Pure Kentucky is the absolute worst whiskey I’ve ever purchased!! I felt bad for my kitchen drain when i poured it out!!!
I regret buying Clyde Mays 9 year rye whiskey! 🤢
Can you two name one whiskey you disagree on?
Disagree on the Coopers Craft.
Knob creek 12, didn't care for 9 but thought maybe I was just mistaken. Nope, ends up I just don't care for Knob creek!
Noah's Mill all day
Only 3 bottles i regret, and davidson reserve, balconies straight bourbon and baby blue balconies. They are terrible, couldn't mix with anything. Just end up giving them away and cant believe y'all put penelope toasted and benchmark on this list.
George Dickel barrel select, RockTown. 👎
Woodford Reserve Double Oak! Terrible!
Regret buying the Knob Creek 18 year. Not worth the money.
Love the KC9/12 heard the 18 was not good!
Angels Envy Ice Cider very disappointed.
Bookers Mighty Fine for $110. Not my jam.
Bulliet Single Barrel is a recent regret. Just terrible, way too floral and tannic.
Jefferson reserve is the worst on the nose. Smells like old wet dog towels
Worst on the pallet. Actually tastes like it smells
That Yellowstone is some hot garbage 🤢. My biggest regret is Smoke Wagon malted rye. It smells and tastes like rotten cheese
I’ve got the Smoke Wagon Uncut Unfiltered. Haven’t popped the top yet.
Tin cup 14 was 69 on their site that’s what I paid
Single malt… that’s all you gotta say.
Single malt smells like puke to me
Benchmark Full Proof sucks
For $22 bucks it a banger in my opinion.
WT Longbranch!! 🤢
You regret buying a $10 bottle. Throw some coke in it.
Gave my Penelope Toasted away
I agree. Cooper's Craft tastes like shit!
The 100 CC is great!
While passing on standard benchmark….pro tip…pass on the rest of them. 🥃
