Whenever you say “florals for fall” it makes me think of The Devil Wears Prada: “Florals for spring? Groundbreaking.” 😂 Florals for fall is groundbreaking though!

I was looking for a brass trumpet candle stick holder for the holidays, that were $70-100 each on Etsy. I went to a “garage sale” that was held at a church & found one for 50 cents! Although I didn’t find anything else, I’d call that a successful day lol

I always look fir those, cannot find any that aren't super high. So I just wait. I love brass trumpets! You did real good, 50 cents? WOW

i don’t know how to say this in just one comment but you are the equivalent of a (younger, different taste) martha stewart or ralph lauren + 3 shelter magazines, and 5 retailers, delivering fresh, new, innovative content several times each week. plus you create the things that you talk about and you manage the tech portion as well. what you do is so very impressive. coming from the retail/design/advertising bkgd myself, i have been part of staffs that brainstorm editorial calendars, watch trends, etc. the amount of work and organization required to do what you do…well it boggles the mind. plus, you are a thought leader, a trendsetter. your texas cottage was a breakthrough in terms of colorways - nobody was doing that at the time. your LA home is so gracious. and the the kitchen! oh my goodness. genius! i am so impressed.

You should take advantage of your front bay window and put a beautiful table there and do a Christmas village there ! Have a row of buildings facing the window so it can be seen from outside and a row of buildings / houses face the inside of the room so it can be enjoyed from the inside. And add all the fun lights so it looks amazing from outside!

I really love the podcasts. I also have to say YAY FOR COLOR! The new Cornflower Blue and now the Eggplant/Burgandy schemes make me so happy. I think a pop of Teal or Navy could be cool as well. Color is life for me, so I love the new Kitchen Cabinets, although they named the paint wrong, it looks more Rum Rasin to me. Keep it up.

Great ideas! We tend to collect so much “stuff” and because I LOVE thrift shopping I declutter and donate several times a year, that way I don’t end using every closet in the house for my decor 😊

What’s beautiful about your style is that you are true to what you like. You don’t go from fad to fad. I’ve been guilty of that seeing some thing on UA-cam and thinking well. I want to do that in my kitchen and then I’m tired of it after a year. I always seem to come back to a transitional look leaning towards French country because that’s what I really like I like my house to be welcoming and cozy

Seasonal decorations are the main thing I shop for at resale/estate sales. I have a whole set of taupe, beige & brown tonal pumpkins that I collected over the years and then spray painted to work with my pallet. It is so fun and when I tire of something I just donate it.

LIGHTING! Something I got from my mom, she would change out the light bulbs in the house, summer she used daylight type bulbs and in fall she would switch them to warm white. The bulbs need to be changed anyways and it made such a difference in the feel of our home growing up. Also simmer pots of seasonal fruits and spices for those smells, if you can't make yet another bath & bodyworks order without your husband wanting to commit you ; )

This is my big tip: I layer fall decorations underneath and in between my Halloween decorations. Then, when my favorite holiday passes, I can simply pull out the Halloween items and I'm ready to go. Typically I sprinkle a few extra fall items in once I do so, just so it looks a little more full. It's been a huge time saver during the busiest time of the year, and really sets me up well for a happy Thanksgiving.

Throw blankets and candles are definitely great seasonal items because you can have warmer blankets for cold seasons and more breathable blankets for the warm seasons. I'm finding that for outdoor nice simple lanterns can be dressed up or adapted for each season/holiday.

Battery operated candles! They can be painted, you can use peel and stick paper with a fall pattern that you like, you can do fall stencils on them. Use your imagination! Even taper candles, you could go and buy a sample of the Kelly green and paint them and your done for the season. They can be lit every night and never melt! They can get all different type of candles in large number for reasonable prices.

I just bought a william sonoma table cloth at the thrift/antique store for 34 bucks. It is cream and has like a pear print or stiching around the edges in like a light brown.. Those things go for like 100 bucks plus. So I was super excited about that. I don't have my home fully furnished with the base pieces of furniture yet and I am the type of person that I kinda want to wait until I have that to decorate. So I will do a dried floral for spring or fall and that is about it... for now.. I do love me some facebook marketplace or to buy used. I bought a wrought iron bed for my daughter and I just scored a little mini cabinet for my son's shoes.

I usually do a fall base layer, then Halloween at the beginning of October, then swap to Thanksgiving. My Halloween leans toward Witches Apothecary and my Thanksgiving is turkeys , pilgrims etc. I don’t like to decorate for Christmas until after Thanksgiving, otherwise I find myself wanting to rip it all down by Christmas Day.

I got very heavily into colour during both my pregnancies the brighter the better and patterns Omg couldnt get enough of them.
I dress in moody muted colours and alot of blacks kaki and greys as a norm, I rarely have a pettern in my wardrobe.
It was extremily unusual for me. Bright sky blue pants, rainbow multi colour jumpers, red or yellow shoe/boots. Think pop of colour everywear.

I'm big on upcycling and repainting stuff, same for the holidays, I make all my own handpainted ornaments with wood slices and thrift only "neutral" ones when I find cool ones I know I can reuse with different themes. Found some sequin black ornaments years ago and have used them in all my trees, they up the shine and don't detract from the "themes". For you it may be another type of "neutral", metallic baubles or heirloom antiques you reuse every year, etc. Your "neutral" can be pink if you live the Barbie life, it's not about "classic neutrals", but about what "will always go" in your home/decor specifically. I know for me black is a neutral, I have enough of it in my "base" that it doesn't call too much attention. But if you're a farmhouse girly with all white everything, black might be a statement... like, it might work with your current "black and white plaid" fall theme, but if you decide to go with beige and cream next year, that big black pumpkin that looked so good last year will look out of place. If you'd gone for a white one, you could reuse it and surround it with cream florals to make it work again. It's small choices like that for me that makes a purchase sustainable.
Here's my few good tips for people who want to start shopping for sustainable seasonal decor:
    1) look for unpainted wood, concrete, unfinished ceramic or other non-shiny materials for easy upcycle and paint. It doesn't need to be a work of art, just a different color! And it's easy to get creative, and maybe do "ombré" by diluting the color with white, or make up your own color scheme/palette. For 10$ at Michaels, you can get 3-4 craft paint colors and go wild! The options are LITERALLY ENDLESS, so much choice!! I did chalkboard paint with white chalk paint doodles on my wood ornaments one year, it was really cool, and a fun craft to do with the kids, for parents!
    2) thrift thrift thrift! ANYTHING you thrift can be upcycled (almost, exception made of glazed porcelains and ceramics), including cheap plastic/foam dollar store ornaments. They just need a good primer or many layers of craft acrylic paint, and that 50 cents worth of fugly bright orange pumpkins look like they were purchased at Pottery Barn! And now that they are just painted with craft paint, you can repaint them whatever color you like next year, without hassle! Don't use a finish on them, and you can repaint them for many, many years.
    3) for bigger pieces, try and go neutral (wood, neutral colors that go well with your year-round decor, metals, etc.), and focus on repainting smaller add-ons so it's less "job" every year to change it up, and you still have those go-to neutral pieces that can go anywhere. I made that mistake of purchasing a pink ceramic pumpkin with burgundy florals one year... BEAUTIFUL, went well with my pink theme... but I haven't used it in two years now... I'll likely use it again in the future, but if you're on a budget, or really aiming at limiting things in storage... avoid.
    4) sometimes "changing it up" can only be taking that fall bouquet and putting it in a new vase in a new spot, EVERYTHING doesn't need to be different to FEEL different! I find it super useful to have "dedicated spaces" for my seasonal decor, but I swap things around from year to year (that centerpiece pumpkin I used on the kitchen table one year will go on a shelf the next year, so it's not "the same"). I have these 5-6 spots in my apartment where I do seasonal stuff. I try to keep it at that, it's usually enough to give the rooms a different feel without needing to redesign a whole entire space. It's less daunting, you know how much space you have to "fill" with seasonal decor, and you can avoid "seasonal fatigue", which I sometimes get.. When every nook and cranny is filled with Christmas things, January just... sucks. loll

you're liking color lately because all we've been looking at is beige, cream and white farmhouse videos (all over utube) that all looked the same. I think you are also maturing, and your tastes are changing and evolving. I don't like traditional fall decor; such as rustic, pumpkins, maple or oak leaves, and super bright colors. I like to use jewel tones with antique brass and a touch of boho. This year I added feathers in my florals. Some fux and others real. Using apothecary style jars, letting rusty orange, and deep yellows make little pops.
