Mobile Workbench - DeWALT 7491 Table saw - Mobile Workbench Series Ep. 1
Вставка
- Опубліковано 4 жов 2018
- Workbench meets mobile table saw station. I needed a workbench for my DeWalt DWE7491 table saw that was mobile and could support larger pieces of plywood. Also, my shop is very small so any additional work surface is a big improvement for me.
In this video, I will show you how I build the mobile workbench and what my process is. If you want to build something like this yourself leave a comment below and I will share a link with the SketchUp model. Link to SketchUp model file: bit.ly/2PbpurJ

Nice job and thanks for sharing!
Thank you Rico!
I just bought the same saw. Going to make a table like yours, with the additional slide out. Thanks for doing this!
Thanks for the comment Steve. Have fun building the workbench and using it :-)!
I'm a beginner. Just purchased a 7480 Dewalt, and after looking at tons of plans, I have decided to adopt your plan to my saw. I really like the way you explain your though process. Very helpful for a beginner. Thanks for sharing your expertise!
That means a lot to me Steve, thank you for leaving this comment 😄👍 I hope you enjoy the build and get lots of usage out of your workstation 💪
Great table for your saw. I like the fact that you refrain from using glue simply so you can reset or re design any changes that may become necessary later. I will be building a similar table and could definitely use your plans and sizes. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks Ejaz! Hope you like the build process as much as I did. Also check out the update video for some good improvements: ua-cam.com/video/TcaQPCFaRWw/v-deo.html
Love how you include lots of helpful tips throughout the video. It makes me want to keep watching to the very end!
Thanks Samantha!
Clever design making the surrounding tables independent. I also took note of your tip to not use glue. Well done.
I think it's pretty clever designed myself 😄. Only took about 5 or 6 attempts to come up with this one 🙃. About to start working on another big upgrade for the right side. Good thing I didn't use glue so I can reuse all the parts 😉👍 Thanks for the view and comment Lenny!
Wow! This is exactly what I was looking for! Thank you for sharing the Sketchup files. You saved me hours of figuring this out and the height is perfect!
I love it! This is best for me. Woodworking is my hobby, I don’t want to spending too much money on it, but still want to be nice table-saw bench. This is great great ideal for me. Thank you so much! Can not stop watch this video again and again.
Thanks for the nice comment, I really appreciate it 😄👍.
I like how you think... "not sure if its going to be permanent so just screw it together". I like to try different layouts and see what works for my workflow. I like this design layout. I'm going to use it as a model for my new mobile cart. Thanks for taking the time to put it out here on the web. Much appreciated.
Thanks for that Robert! I hope my thoughts helped you out 😃👍
Very nice project, like the way you've planned it out and there's some nice little details like the six castors, currently saving for new table saw so looking forward to building my own cabinet, thanks again 👍👍
Thanks Alan! Have fun building your own version. Don't forget to check out the update video. Some good updates in there 😉
Thank you very much Rico from this 72 year old KG 3 student of Carpentry hobby just started.
Planing to go for this Dewalt table saw, and will start preparing.
Appreciate your sharing the plans and details for the carpentry enthusiasts.
Best wishes and Regards
RR
You're welcome! Happy to help 😄
Great video! Thanks for taking the time to share this. I'm considering buying the saw and this should be a good supplement.
😁👍
Very well done! Thank you for sharing the video. I am interested in making one, and look forward to you sharing the sketchup.
Thank you! The file can be downloaded here: bit.ly/2PbpurJ
one of the best build/diy vids l have seen. great job!
Considering it's my first video ever that's a huge compliment. Thanks Patrick! Hope you come back to my channel for more builds 😁
I really liked the idea of doing the bottom base and then the top complements. These modules are certainly easier to make future adaptations. Thank you!
My point exactly Stefan! Thanks for the comment 👍
Favorite part was seeing finish from Gamma. I lived in Gouda for about 18 months and Gamma was my Home Depot and Lowe's. Job well done. Gefiliciteerd!
Thanks for sharing Justin!! Glad you liked that bit, hope you also found the rest useful ;-)
I start my build tomorrow. I have the Sawstop which has the dust lift at the rear which lead me to one significant change to the design. Will have a cabinet under the outfeed table to house a shop vac.
I'm tempted to build something similar for my own saw, even though it already has a rolling stand. Unless I need to take it on the road somewhere, I think having a larger table like this will be very useful. Either way, a very nice, simple build that's a good upgrade for your shop.
One note, however... We were always taught in shop classes that cross-cutting against the fence as you did at 2:35 is risky. Fortunately, you did use the miter gauge to keep the lumber square to the blade. But, it's generally not considered safe because the lumber can pinch and twist much more easily in this orientation than when you're ripping it, making it prone to kickback. Clamp it to the miter gauge if you don't trust your hands to hold it and skip the fence. For repeatable cuts, clamp a stop to the miter gauge rather than using the fence.
Thanks for the comprehensive comment Eric, much appreciated! It has been pointed out to me that I shouldn't do that and I haven't done it since. Luckily I learned it without experiencing any dangerous situations.
I had to subscribe. You explained everything so simply and your production is done so well. I can’t believe you’re only at 1.2k
Thank you Andrew! You have to start somewhere 😉 I'm happy with every person that's positive about my videos. Not aiming to be the King of UA-cam or anything like that. However, for everyone sub I get a little closer to doing this for a living so from the perspective I'd love to have a big community. If that doesn't happen, I will still make videos 😉 We will see where I'm at in a year's time. Who knows!
a great job of building the mobile base for your table saw
This will be my first project and i really like the way it is made all i need is the plans .I already have a new table saw to get started with!
Good thing than that you can download some stuff from my website to help you out 😉👌 cornerfieldshop.com/2018/11/26/mobile-workbench/
I am looking to build something similar for my dewalt saw, I have looked at pretty much every build like this on youtube and like your frame construction the best so far.
That's a huge compliment for me, thank you 👍
Cool build! I just got the same saw and look forward to building this. One thing about the dust collection hole - the dust collection port moves when the blade is beveled to an angle. You might want to make the hole in the plywood backer board larger to account for that
Thanks Kartik! You're right and I did adjust it in my second video. Something to look forward to 😉
Thanks for the video, gave me some ideas on how to handle the fence on my current table build for my 7491!
Great to hear! That's why I make them 😄
bought a DWE7485 and will build a similar stand for this one but it will be a little larger and will put in on castors. Plan on all the work tables to be at the same height and on castors also, but 4 inch size. That's the plan anyway. Great job!!!!
Cool! Hope it works as well for you as it does for me 😄👍
Nice build, good job! I’d love to see your sketchup plan as I am going to be working on a similar project for my shop. Thanks in advance!
Thanks Geoffrey! You can find the file here: tinyurl.com/yahvd8mm I did make some minor changes to the dimensions as I went along so make sure you check the measurements to work for your situation. Good luck with your project!
I like your simple approach, been watching videos to get ideas for my work bench and this has been very helpful.
Thanks
Thanks for your comment, great to hear it's helpful to you 😄👍
Thanks for your video, really impressed and one of the best I’ve seen. I’m just about to make a workstation for my saw and will be using this design as the base, thank you!
Thanks! Really appreciate that 🙏. Good luck with your project!
Hey man! thanks so much for sharing this! I just got that tablesaw and I'm working on a better workbench than the one I have and this will be perfect. I think I'll try to adapt a small router table to the right of the TS, that way I can use the same fence for both projects. Thanks again!
Great to hear Jesus! I'm actually going to add the router myself. In the midst of gathering material for it 😃👍 Let me know how you get on 😎
Very nice , appealing design , I am a beginner , and this looks like something I would be able to do easily
And would fit my workspace readily , Thank you .
Hi Geoff, thanks! I think it's a good beginners project as well 👍. If you need any help along the way just let me know. Have fun building 😄
I've been looking for a nice mobile table saw for my Dewalt, and yours looks perfect!
Happy to help 👍
Super helpful! This is closest to what I want to build. I will study it more. Also the camera work was excellent. Thank you.
Thank you David! Happy to help 😄. I also have a few sequel videos on this project on my channel, as well as articles with more details on my website if you are interested. Good luck with your project 👍
I like it !! clean and organize !!
This is Fantastic! I plan on buying this very same saw in two weeks, this is perfect for my garage,It will allow me to roll the saw around and get it out of the way when not in use. I would very much like the plans please.
Thanks! Plans can be found here bit.ly/2PbpurJ
Excellent video, your channel will explode, editing and narration done as if you had 70k sub's. Keep the shop projects coming, Subed
Wauw, thanks for the amazing compliment! I will keep the videos coming! Thanks for subscribing, I'll try not to disappoint ;-)
I am new to woodworking. I just bought a Dewalt 745, and I have been looking for table plans. I came across your video and I a) instantly subscribed because the table is outstanding, and b) the production and presentation of the video were excellent. Thank you very much for sharing. I’m very appreciative. Now I’m off to modify the plans slightly to accommodate my saws model.
Hi Sully, I really appreciate the comment! Glad to hear that it's so useful to you 😄👍 I hope you have fun building it and enjoy it with all your woodworking adventures 😎👌
Did you end up building this? I have a 745 as well and I'm going to build this for my saw. If you have modified dimensions I'd be interested to see them.
I'm assuming you're asking Sully, Dave?
@@CornerfieldShopYeah, I was directing that towards Sully. Love the build. I can modify dimensions as I go but just thought it would be a bit easier if I had them beforehand.
Makes sense 👍
Great video, nice design.
I built a frame for my table saw and another for a flip top for my miter saw, using similar lap joints on two by fours, and it just wasn't accurate enough.
I'm currently building a similar structure to replace the one for my table saw, that is made entirely from plywood. I think it's going to be better.
thanks for sharing
Thanks for the comment and have fun building version 2.0! It's always good to improve on stuff you previously build 👍
I'm so happy that my son didn't sleep last night at all. Because of this I found this awesome plan which fits perfectly into my shop. I've got a different saw (Evolution Rage 5S) but I will adapt your plans. This is really a great help! Thank u very much.
I have watched already so many videos and dream about the perfect saw stand. And now finally I got it.
Thank you!
Best wishes from Moers, Germany 😄
Hi Giovanni, thank you so much for your comment and compliment! I hope the build is fun for you to do and it will serve you well 😄👍. Don't forget to check out my part 2 video for some good upgrades to this first version. Also I do the same thing when my daughter doesn't sleep which is every night at the moment 🙃. I love the design, great clean look! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for leaving a comment 😄👍
@@CornerfieldShop Yeah man! Your videos are great quality - hope you keep 'em coming!
Fantastic power tool. Nice video!
Thanks!
This is exactly the bench I need for my Dewalt 7480. I assume it would be about the same as for your 7491. I would love to see your Sketchup model.
Hi Chuck, I'm not sure it's the same. You should measure and double check before cutting for your parts just to be on the safe side. All the info I shared can be found in the comment I pinned to the top of this video. Cheers!
Super clean. At 7:09ish it looks like you used a fence to make a crosscut. Typically not a good idea and can cause kickback. Really nice/precise table build
You're right, I was too lazy to get my cross cut sled but that's what I should have done... Don't do as I do 😉 Thanks for your comment 👍
Awesome design. I agree with your modular design idea. Good Journey Richie
😄👍
Nice looking table saw support, looking to do the same might add lower corner support, but I always overbuild.
Thanks Michael! The lower corners could use additional supports for sure. It wouldn't hurt 😉. I wasn't sure if I wanted to add some kind of storage on the bottom so I decided to leave it open for now. If I do add something I will be sure to make a video of it.
I’ll be trying this out, cool piece!!
Thanks Joe! Have fun with the build 😄👍
Nice job! Looks great thank you for the video!
Thanks for the comment 🙌
This is an awsome video mate! I have a makita table saw and i'm planning to build a workbench for it. I hope to have it before summer. Greetings from a new follower from Belgium!
Thanks Christofix 😃👍 Be sure to share your build, I'd love to see it! And welcome to the club 😎
@@CornerfieldShop I Will, you can already see the unboxing video of that makita table saw on my channel. I'm working on the plans to build that workbench. Stay tuned! i hit the bell on your channel so i will get notifications every time you upload. You got a great channel!
Very nice table! Yours is perfect for your De Walt. Nice minimalist approach to the joints. Sturdy, clean and reversible! I have a Bosch GTS 635-216 and need the left hand and rear extension but no so much the right hand side. My plan is to stand my table & saw next to my workbench if I need extra room. They just need to be the same height. All the best from Switzerland, Rob
Thanks Rob for the comment and kind words! Hope the video gave you some ideas for your situation :-). Greetings from the Netherlands
this was a great help. i liked that you explained what you were doin with out over talking.
You're very welcome and thanks for the compliment! That is why I make these videos :-).
Great design and methodology. Thank you
Thanks for commenting 👍
Nice job, I am looking to incorporate some of your design with jay Bates with RonPaulk. Thanks for the post.
Thank you! I'm honored to be in that list of names 🙏. Let me know what you come up with. I'm interested to see it 😄👍
Nicely done! I have the same saw. Going to make this table.
Nice 👌 Would love to see your version when it's done. Have fun building it! 😃
Thanks for sharing the project and the plans. Much appreciated.
You're very welcome. Update on this build coming in two weeks, so stay tuned for that.
@@CornerfieldShop Subscribed! Oh! And please be sure to use the blade guard that came with the 7491. It has dust extraction and kickback wings on it. There is also a dewalt dado set for this saw.
Goed gedaan! I have a similar Dewalt, so this project is perfect! Thank you for sharing!
👍
Nice build, I'm looking for a similar solution, table saw and mobile base. Looks like you could install some sliding drawers on the upper and lower sides.
Nice video too.
Thanks Scott! I actually did install one drawer for cut-offs and perhaps more will follow. I'm planning on upgrading the build in the coming months so if you have any other good ideas let me know :-).
I like the overall design, I'm trying to build one for my workshop.
Thanks Tony! I hope it works for you as well as it does for me 👍
Love the design, but those joints are the star of the show!
Thanks for that! And for watching :-)
Thanks I been looking for a mobile saw bench for some time. You workshop looks the same size as mine, I like the design so I would like to build it. Thanks again David Smith
Glad to help :-)!
Nice build. I'm loving the lap joints. I have the exact same saw (US version) and I've been thinking about doing something similar with lap joints.
Thanks! Lap joints in my experience at least are sturdy enough to take some abuse 😁 Would love to see what you end up making 😃👍
Nice job I’ve been trying to find plans for a table for my saw, I think I found one. Thanks
Great to hear! Hope you like the result as much as I do. I'm planning to make some upgrades in the near future, so look out for those if you're building your own version 😉
i love this build!
I’d like to get the plans for this.
It’s exactly what I was looking for.!
Thanks
Hi Chris, thanks for the comment. All the downloads and info is in the comment I pinned to the top. Good luck with the build 👍
Outstanding job, very well done. Did you come up with a solution for miter cuts and the dust port. Would love your plans please. Subscribed and looking forward to watching you move forward. Best building!
Thanks Mark! I did solve the problem by drilling a hole for the dust collection at 45 degrees. I could now connect the two holes so that the dust collection can stay in the saw but didn't have the need for it yet. Too busy coming up with new projects ;-). Thanks for subscribing and sticking around, I hope you like the new content! Plans are always in the description if I have them and available on my website where I post articles on all my builds.
Nice. I like your modular design, I'm definitely borrowing this for my table
Go for it 😎👌
Hi there, this is Alan, great job. Absolutely love it, and I would love to have blueprints for this job. 👍🏼👍🏼
Hi Alan, thanks for the message! All the info about the build can be found in the comment that I've pinned to the top. Have fun building 👌
simple and effective! nice work!
Thanks!
Very nice job here. Always enjoy your content. Thanks for the time, effort and energy it takes to put these out. I have the 7491 so would you please let me know how I could get the Scetch-up from you please? Thanks so much once again.
Thank you Mark! I appreciate you taking the time to leave a comment 😄👍. The file and more details on the build can be found on my website article: cornerfieldshop.com/2018/11/26/mobile-workbench/ Hope it's useful to you 🙌
Well described and good video. Have a 7491 and planning to build a similar table so would be happy to have your plan. Thanks
Thanks Sigge! For more details and downloads, visit my website article here: cornerfieldshop.com/2018/11/26/mobile-workbench/
My new Dewalt 7492 will arrive in a few days and I'm looking, how other people realize an integration of their tablesaws into their workbench and so I find your video also. Fine work!
You have a new suscriber! (-:
Greetings from germany and take care in these bad covid-days!!!
Guido
Thanks! Good luck with your saw, i hope you like it!
@@CornerfieldShop I hope - you can believe it!
One year ago I bought a Bosch GTS10XC with all dust-remove-tools, you can buy at the aftermarket, but I am absolutely dissatisfied! So the 7492 is the last chance to get a reasonably dust-free workarea with a investment smaller than 1000 EUR!
I really hope you get what you hope for with the DeWalt but I'm afraid dust collection with these types of saws is pretty similar regardless of the brand. I think the construction is just too open to properly capture the dust. But let me know what you think after you've used it. Fingers crossed 🤞!
Hi, very nice. After you had this awhile would you change or reconfigure this design in any way? I want to make a mobile table saw for my garage and I think this would be my first project to start with. Thank you for this video and hope to see more. Love to see your sketches and plans on this. Thanks again!
Hi Chris, I did have some ideas on improvements which I shared in an update video. ua-cam.com/video/TcaQPCFaRWw/v-deo.html Besides that I have articles on my website with more details on the project, including plans: cornerfieldshop.com/2018/11/26/mobile-workbench/
As far as considering other options go, I would have made the sides bigger if I had a bigger garage. I love to work on the workbench but the surface isn't very big. So if you can, I would recommend making it bigger. Other than that I'm pretty happy with it 😄👍
Really nice job!
Thank you :-)!
It looks like a great idea. I just purchased a new Dewalt table saw and I’m thinking of your idea. Thanks for sharing .
You're welcome Allen :-)
Great job!
Love that this is in metric!
Great idea with the separate modules! My saw is a Ridgid, with extendible wings, maybe this approach will work for me.
Hee Brian, thanks for your comment 👍. It sounds like skipping one or two sides would work for you. Curious to see what that would look like.
@@CornerfieldShop it's going to be a while before I can get to it. I don't really have a shop right now. The saw is on a couple of fruit boxes in front of the daughter's car
@@brw3079 it's never fun to wait but waiting until you can get back to woodworking is the worst. I feel your pain 😉
Veramente un ottimo lavoro. Complimenti. Dedicherò il prossimo weekend alla realizzazione del banco come il tuo. Grazie
Grazie mille 👌
Are the Sketchup plans still available? I really like what you have done on this and am planning to do something similar.
Thanks.
Hi Randy, they sure are. Link can be found at the bottom of my website article: cornerfieldshop.com/2018/11/26/mobile-workbench/
Great Design! I'll start building tomorrow
Thanks Stephen! Have fun 😄👍
Nice design! I've got a DeWalt DWE7491RS on order right now. (Here in the U.S., we can't get the 7491 without a portable Rolling Stand being included. After the saw comes in, I'll be making a stand similar to yours, but there will be an accommodation for a router table and a miter saw.
Sounds good Marshall! I also have a router included in the build. It's in a later video on my channel. Miter saw isn't though. Should make a good addition to the whole. Keep me posted how that goes 😄👍
Nog een mooi project.... met deze video kan ik wel uit de voeten. Je heb genoeg ruimte om lades te maken... bedankt voor het idee
Graag gedaan! 😄
like the model .good work
Thanks Eli 😄
Jupiler beer? I had some of that in Belgium. Nice video btw.
You are the first one to mention that. Credits for the beer enthousiast 😁.
Well done! Good project.
Thanks Jorge 👍
beautiful work.
Thanks Doug 😀
Great design! How did you account for the riving knife release handle?
Thanks John! Check out my update video for the answer to that question 😉 ua-cam.com/video/TcaQPCFaRWw/v-deo.html
Great video! Thanks!
Based on the published date, you seem to be new to the woodshop family. Was it hard to learn sketchup and could you recommend the steps needed to do sketchup?
Hi Reggie, yes I am new at UA-cam. Woodworking less new. Been doing this for about 8/9 years now. SketchUp is pretty easy, especially if you check out the tutorials from Jay Bates. Look up Jay Bates and SketchUp on UA-cam. Plenty of videos to get you started. Good luck!
The simplicity of this makes sense.
Thanks Simon!
What a great table for your dewalt 👍🏻
Thanks Fennah!
Great video. Wish I would have seen it before I made my current table and took a few notes. I was wondering what you did to secure the table saw darn to the structure?
Thanks Robert! The saw is fixed by friction and gravity at the stage of this video. For me it didn't need anything else but you could always use hose clamps to make sure it doesn't move.
@@CornerfieldShop Ahh hose clamps is a great idea. I had to make some pieces that would secure the lid to the Air compressor compartment to keep it from lifting when tightened. I failed to measure the width of my dewalt and it came to the edge of the back and made me nervous it would fall off. Next time I will account for that. Thanks again for this great workbench idea. I have been adding on to mine here and there and its a continuous growing project now.
@@unaplogeticmimi you live and learn. Where is the fun in doing it right the first time? Evolution is the way forward 😆! My shop is ever changing, not a single thing has remained unchanged since I started using it as a shop 5 years ago. Most things have changed about 3 times I would say 😅. But isn't that where some of the fun is? 😁 Keep building and having fun 💪
Please note that you won't be enable to tilt the blade with the dust collection connected through the back panel... Othertwise a great build! Keep it up!
Yes, that is true. Good comment! For me it's not a big issue because I'm changing the entire dust collection system to something completely underneath the saw. The hole is a temporary fix. At least that's what I'm hoping for. Still waiting on some budget for that 🤔 Thanks for watching and your contribution 👌
Goedenavond! Nice looking system, but I see one tiny problem.. With the one hole for dust collection You can't tilt your blade..
It was a probleem indeed. That's why I fixed it in the update video 😄 Check out part 2 here: ua-cam.com/video/TcaQPCFaRWw/v-deo.html
I would like the plans. It’s a smart design. I would make it a bit larger. Only because my space is a bit larger. Thanks for the video.
Thanks Derek! I would make it larger if I could as well. That way you have space to incorporate more tools. The files and more details can be found on my website: cornerfieldshop.com/2018/11/26/mobile-workbench/
Hi,
do you think/believe you can use this table saw for small furniture making (beginner) ie. nightstand, some benches, ....
For sure! 👍 It's perfect for that 😄
Than you for the sketchup file, have you updated this drawing now that you've added a router to your bench.
I"m thinking of maybe stretching it a small bit and accommodating a Mitre station also.
You're welcome George! I didn't actually update the SketchUp file. That change was pretty much improvised. If you add the miter saw I would love to see how it turns out. Good luck 👍
@@CornerfieldShop Let me get my saw... ordered about a hour ago, Mitre is here, arrived on Monday.
As soon as I'm done with the bench will ping you.
Cool 👍
Curious why do the insets like that rather than just cutting the pieces and screwing them together? Is the rigidity really that advantageous?
Not sure if that would work but you could try it. I always opt for the 'better-safe-than-sorry' method.
Very nice done! I just bought the new Dewalt table saw DeWALT DWE7492-QS. I would love to have your Sketchup plans for this very practical table. Thank you in advance. Christian from Ulm, Germany
Hi Christian, if you check the pinned comment at the top you will find links to all the stuff you need 👍. Have fun building yours! If you end up building something similar I would love to see it 😄. Greetings from The Netherlands 👋
Great job
Thanks for the video! Would you mind telling us which saw blade you have mounted?
You're welcome. Thanks for your comment! I currently have a CMT Orange blade. I used to have a Diablo (or Freud if you live in Europe) but that is a lesser quality blade for sure. Hope it helps :-)
Looks like you're running a different riving knife than what came with the saw. I have the same saw but the RK is too thick for my thin kerf blade. Was wondering where you got your RK.
Hi Connor, I got the same comment from a Dutch viewer but I really didn't buy a different RK. It's just the one from the box. Not very helpful but I don't know what to tell you.
