She was a delightful genius. And she turned her suffering into poetry...The French have a talent for producing the most amazing and obscure documentaries. Respect.
That look of delight on her face at the end really makes you fall in love, doesn't it? A fascinating and illuminating documentary. I can't believe she still uses tape! Fantastic. I wish they'd do something like this about Ralf Wehowsky.
It's wonderfull to hear fascinated people speaking about their poetic approach of an high-technical and scientific-based artistic profession. Electronic music becomes in that way something different than what people generaly think about this kind of music.
What a joy to hear Eliane Radigue talking about her music. I can't tell how much I admire this great lady of contemporary music. Her sounds always give me a lot of happiness. Thank you so much, straypixel, for this upload!
Half legendary and half weird, she draws partitions and works months or years for something that does not sound much different than anybody take a 500 (or 200) $ synth and lets two oscillators drone along. Artists. Though absolutely love what she says about 11:14 about listening. Of course i love a person that age spend their time with stuff like that. Hope i will be the same.
i didn't ever hear about this lady. But I know all the men though, from hedley jones to robert moog via mike biegel or craig anderton. happy to learn there are great women in audio electronics!
Peu de Femme compose dans ce genre de Musique ... Dans notre école du conservatoire Electro acoustique 1 seul femme travaillait avec nous ( 5 hommes + 1 prof )...
Turning knobs for five minutes with no sound, keeps turning up volume, till its Full Tilt, wondering whats gone wrong, then realizes that speaker switch has been off. flips it on . emitting a deafening squeech! cat fly's straight up from counter and is hanging there with all 20 claws dug into ceiling. LOL seriously though, I watched another video where she did one of her pieces, it really reminded me of Binaurel Beats. it was beautiful!
Anyone knows where does she lives or where to contact her? Please DM me if any clue thanks a lot . My ultimate goal would be do do something with her and ken nordine. C
That Arp is so cool. Not practical at all, but cool. And never having owned one, I wonder, what a basic path with oscillator running through a filter sounded like. Maybe it's wonderful and distinct
I only recently have been turned on to her. I think she's wonderful. It's such a thing of cognitive dissonance for me-she looks like a working class grandmother, yet is able to talk about modulators and filters in an intelligent way that doesn't sound pretentious or over-analytical of droning analogue sounds.
With all the shallow bullshit about mindfullness and concentration (provided by high salery coaches) this is the reeeeall challening introspective experience.
This is more about the manipulation of sound than composing. By manipulating the wave forms, frequencies are produced, which result in an overall sound texture. To say this is composing is incorrect as it is the machine or technology that actually produces the final embodiment. The human, Eliane Radigue, is allowing for chance to perform its magic while she experiments with making sounds via the different means she uses to generate them.
Why is "composing" incorrect? Does a "classical" composer produce any sounds? No, it's produced by the instrumentist (the media). The only difference is a different type of media.
A classical composer most often writes a score that the musicians perform! Otherwise you could say that the sound of wind rustling the leaves of trees in a forest, is a composition!
Radigue is controlling the parameters of sound produced by the synthesizer, no less than a pianist controls the parameters of the sound that the hammers and strings ultimately produce. If the sound must be produced by a human directly, then voice is the only instrument capable of being composed for... unless by "final embodiment" you mean the written score. That is incorrect, though, as the written score is only a set of instructions for a performer. Ink on paper is not music.
so, uh, Eliane Radigue, one of THE MOST celebrated electronic music composers, is not a composer. Interesting. And "Ay Bee" is possibly on Donald Trump's cultural team? WTF?
Sure but until you actually strike the piano's keys, there is no sound at all! This is more the manipulation of sounds and not the 'composing' of music. Am sure it wouldn't be too difficult to fill a room with various mechanical machines and devices (washing machine, electric food processor, egg beater etc etc etc) and have them play at different intervals and at the same time. Would you call that 'music' or 'composing' too?
A pioneer of electronic music, I love her work, great documentary.
She was a delightful genius. And she turned her suffering into poetry...The French have a talent for producing the most amazing and obscure documentaries. Respect.
bro she's still alive

Makes Aphex Twin look like Tiësto.
Eh hardly. Different worlds. You can give the same respect that Radigue's work demands to the likes of Aphex and find something equally incredible.
Accessibility doesn't always equal inferiority.
