There is so much in this short book worth clinging to. Peter is full of great reminders and encouragement to the people of Christ who are living in constant persecution and a pagan, selfish culture. Peter faithfully reminds his readers and believers that these things they’re experiencing are refining them, and their responses and the way they live is an example of a Christ and can/should give Him glory and point others towards Him. How??? Well, he tells us that, too. We have to gird up our minds, be sober (clear minded), and rest our hope fully on the grace of Him. My faith and hope is in God- does my life reflect that to others? Another call to love! Yes! Another call to lay aside those fleshly things like hypocrisy, malice, envy, evil speaking! We are chosen by Him to be set apart and abstain from those lusts so there will be no question about where our hearts are set upon! Let us be honorable before God. Honor all people. (All.) Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the king (our earthly leaders). For the first time, I am in tune to the words that I am Sarah’s daughter and she is my example. I never recognized that before. I’ve always considered myself a child of Abraham, sing the song Father Abraham had many sons (and daughters) but I never tilted my head to recognize that Sarah is my mother and an example of a godly woman with whom I have the genetics of. I want to cling to 1 Peter 3:15 and always be ready to share why I have the hope that I have! Sometimes I’m afraid to share. It will sound weird! But- it does to those who don’t believe! However, I need to remember that it is my hope in Him that keeps me calm and when I am anchored in that hope, I am free. I want others to know and experience that, too! How can they if I am not sharing? Be serious and watchful in my prayers. Have fervent love for one another. Minister to one another. Be hospitable- WITHOUT GRUMBLING. Remember that God is my supplier of all that I need, including sharing my love for Him with others. Be clothed in humility. Cast all my cares on Him. Be sober. Vigilant. That devil is lurking around ready to devour me. Let Him perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle me. Let me be steadfast in my faith and to Him be the glory forever and ever.
“God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another.” 1 Peter 4:10 NLT Verses like these always stand out to me as they highlight to me how complex and wise God is, our God created every single one of us individually and uniquely to fulfill his perfect plan. So I invite all of you today to recognize all of your special gifts and skills, and to use them not only for your success, but also glorify our God. God bless all of you today. ✝️💪
Apparently God’s people have always been marked as “strangers and exiles in this world” (1 Pet 2:11); even Abraham was a foreigner, but who looked to God for his inheritance. We think of our earthly inheritance as our investments that will keep food on the table through our old age, and we see the value of those investments swing wildly day to day. But God’s inheritance is “priceless, kept for us in Heaven, beyond the reach of change and decay” (1 Pet 1:4). He transforms us from being strangers into stones, living stones in His temple (1 Pet 2:5). We are His place of worship because we’re made for worship, and to help each other worship Him. That is what gives us “more and more grace and peace” (1 Pet 1:2).
Aloha, praise the Lord, and good morning BR family. Be on the lookout for God to restore you, confirm you, and establish you whether now or eternity. He will not fail--He is where the JOY is!!!
There is so much in this chapter and it's hard to narrow it down to one thing. What really hit me and stood out the most is I Peter 3:9, "Do not repay evil eith evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing. This is so counter-cultural and against our human nature. It is something we can't do on our own but only by His Spirit. 🙏🏽
Peter’s divine inspired words are just as potent now as when he penned them. Lord let your Word come alive in our hearts and then pour out to a lost and hurting world. By Your stripes we are healed. Glory to God.
My heart is so full this morning. So grateful for the reminder that Jesus is our High Priest and we can go directly to Him in our trials and sufferings. He understands our pain as No one else can. Full of gratefulness and joy today!! Thank you God and thank you TLC.
Jesus is our high priest. We don’t have to go through anyone to get to Him. The kind of access we have to God is amazing! He has made us priests to reign with Him through all eternity. Jesus lead the way through humility and suffering.
Prayer warriors I still need a heavenly touch. I asked last week and I hate to even ask again. I had the clogged ear with an infection. It's all better now...Praise the Lord BUT my ear still has a continuous noise that won't go away. I'm done with my 2 antibiotics. Please whisper a prayer for complete healing and peace in my ears.
Thank you for your prayers...I still have the noise in my ear. I try to block it out but it's still there. It's not as loud but it's continuous. I agree and declare complete healing.
1 Peter 1:3-5 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. Amen. In suffering, remember God. Thats powerful.
Peter reminds them that they are God’s even in their disparity. He tells them to live holy and be set apart. We are a chosen race. In our suffering we are to remember God. I definitely trust God even in the midst of my trials. We are to have a new life in Christ we have to become new people. We will get his eternal glory because he is where the joy is. 🙌🏽🙌🏽
Peter calls us to be holy as God is holy. How? By being humble, respectful of even corrupt authorities, and suffering well. Our persecution is nothing compared to Nero’s, who would crucify Peter upside down, but when Christians are persecuted (as they are in many parts of the world), we are to have peace in knowing that our faith is being tested and purified.
1 Peter 3:13-17 NLT [13] Now, who will want to harm you if you are eager to do good? [14] But even if you suffer for doing what is right, God will reward you for it. So don’t worry or be afraid of their threats. [15] Instead, you must worship Christ as Lord of your life. And if someone asks about your hope as a believer, always be ready to explain it. [16] But do this in a gentle and respectful way. Keep your conscience clear. Then if people speak against you, they will be ashamed when they see what a good life you live because you belong to Christ. [17] Remember, it is better to suffer for doing good, if that is what God wants, than to suffer for doing wrong!
1 Peter 2:18-25 NLT [18] You who are slaves must submit to your masters with all respect. Do what they tell you-not only if they are kind and reasonable, but even if they are cruel. [19] For God is pleased when, conscious of his will, you patiently endure unjust treatment. [20] Of course, you get no credit for being patient if you are beaten for doing wrong. But if you suffer for doing good and endure it patiently, God is pleased with you. [21] For God called you to do good, even if it means suffering, just as Christ suffered for you. He is your example, and you must follow in his steps. [22] He never sinned, nor ever deceived anyone. [23] He did not retaliate when he was insulted, nor threaten revenge when he suffered. He left his case in the hands of God, who always judges fairly. [24] He personally carried our sins in his body on the cross so that we can be dead to sin and live for what is right. By his wounds you are healed. [25] Once you were like sheep who wandered away. But now you have turned to your Shepherd, the Guardian of your souls.
I feel like we spent a long time reading through the old testament (2-3 verses at a time) and are now rushing through the new testament (4-5 verses at a time). Does anyone know of a good year long program going through the new testament? Thanks!
I recently did a Precept class by Kay Arthur on the book of Matthew that was 13 weeks long. Very in depth and I learned a lot. I’m sure there are other studies out there that are similar. This was a weekly in person study in a church, so lots of people putting their knowledge of the Bible on the discussion table.
I agree also. I’m looking for a Bible in a year program that includes New Testament with Old Testament readings for next year. I loved this study and have done the Bible in a year several times. It’s so great to get others teachings. You can always increase in learning. That’s my goal each year, to learn more. If anyone has a plan thru youversion that has both Old Testament and New Testament readings along with teaching devotional, please let me know. I’m still searching. Nikki Gumbrel has a very good one if you have never done it.
It's interesting, bc I've always heard that a lot of the audience of this epistle was Jewish believers, bc of the imagery of priesthood, the reference to the prophets, etc.
1 Peter 3:14-22 is one of the stranger passages in the New Testament! 😄 What do the ark, Noah, and imprisoned spirits have to do with baptism? According to Semitic languages expert Dr. Michael Heiser, Peter is thinking about Enoch. Enoch?? Yes! We know that Peter had Enoch on the brain because both Peter and Jude wrote about angels who sinned in the days of Noah (2 Pet. 2:4-5; Jude 6). But one of the things they both mention - angels being imprisoned in the underworld realm of the dead until the end of days - is never talked about in the Old Testament. It is found, however, in the book of 1 Enoch. We need to understand that Peter and the other New Testament writers were familiar with Jewish books outside the Old Testament. One of these books is 1 Enoch. It fills in lots of details about what happened at the time of the flood, especially in the episode of Genesis 6:1-4, where the sons of God (beings we would call angels; Enoch calls them "Watchers") produced children (the Nephilim giants) with human women. Heiser explains, "In the 1 Enoch story, Enoch has a dream where the imprisoned spirits asked him to intercede with God on their behalf. After all, Enoch walked with God - who better to ask God to relent and release them? Enoch did so, but got bad news. God's answer was an emphatic _no._ Enoch then had to deliver that answer - he descended to the spirits in prison. He told them they were still under judgement." "First Peter 3:14-22 has Jesus descending to these same 'spirits in prison' to tell them they were _still defeated,_ despite his crucifixion." "When they saw Jesus enter the place of the dead, they were likely to think their fellow demons had won and they would be getting out of jail soon. Instead, Jesus told them they wouldn't see him for long - he would rise again. It was all part of God's plan." "The crucifixion actually meant victory over every demonic force opposed to God. This victory declaration is why 1 Peter 3:14-22 ends with Jesus risen from the dead and set at the right hand of God - _above all angels, authorities and powers._ The messaging is very deliberate, and has a supernatural view of Genesis 6:1-4 at its core." 🤔 But anyway, what does all this have to do with baptism? Well, Heiser continues, "In Peter's mind, Jesus' death and resurrection - complete with an announcement to the demonic powers of his victory - was symbolized in baptism... _[B]aptism was a loyalty oath and a message to the demonic powers_ (as well as any people present) of just whose side you were on in the spiritual war. Ancient Christians understood this better than we do today." As a matter of fact, it was because of this passage in 1 Peter that early Church baptismal rites included not only a renunciation of Satan, but of Satan's angels as well! "Baptism was anything but routine. It was a symbol of spiritual warfare." 💪❤️✊️ (Sources: _Supernatural, The Unseen Realm,_ and _Reversing Hermon_ by Michael S. Heiser) PS- sorry so long! 😄

Makes sense since Peter primarily preached to/taught Jewish people...

Why in some books is Jesus called "Jesus Christ" and in other books (a lot of Paul's books for example) "Christ Jesus?"
Probably just mixin' it up. It means the same thing. It's not like a first and last name.
I wish she would not Zoom in and out all the time.
