    The one thing I've been wondering about the Chapel Ford is if you're gonna bag all four cab corners? I know this one didn't have it from factory, but I would think the frame would have the places for it and those Two Story Falcons were very cool having that setup factory, especially since no one else in the US market did that since and it adds that distinctiveness that really sets it apart.

    Ford were experts in aluminum casting and forging back then. The aluminum rims on the late 1970s Lincolns are a prime example. GM was notorious for porosity issues with their aluminum parts well into the late 1990s.

    If you want to determine the exact fuel capacity on Orwell measure the length and width of the tank. Convert all measurements to feet.Take the width measurement and find the radius. Take that measurement and square it. Then multiply that by 3.14. Next multiply the results by the length of the tank. Finally take that result and multiply by 7.48 to determine gallons.

      @@scottbaker1018 You're not getting it: He _could_ put a C16 in there if he wanted to, but he _won't_ because he wants to keep "Orwell's" engine as stock and mechanical as he can so he can avoid having computer glitches and ECM faults hitting him, plus by having any engine computer on that Cat will make him more likely to be forced into using E-logs rather than the paper ones he uses now.

    On the fuel tank capacity, my guess is that the mathematical capacity is 141 gallons, but since it has a filler neck on the side of the tank and the tank will be mounted with the filler not at the very top, but slightly to the side, the tank will hold 134 gallons with the fuel level up to the level of the filler neck. So it is a 141 gallon tank, but only 134 gallons of usable capacity.

I realize those are big sockets on big bolts & nuts. I have seen a chrome socket "explode" from using on an impact gun, not pretty at all plus one could get injured from flying pieces. But then again I have seen impact sockets explode too. I am a Automotive Technician from WAY back....30+ yrs. Just was wondering why the chrome socket instead of impact sockets.

      Totally unnecessary!

      Frame boxing will interfere with mounting brackets and the various crossmembers in the chassis. The channel used is very thick-walled, not thin like automotive framerails. Light-duty pickups are built to hold between 6000 and 10000 pounds. Semis need to hold at least 80000 combined, and some are rated well over 100k pounds. You are looking at 5/16, 3/8, or 7/16 inches thick steel(8 to 10mm). Logging trucks and cement trucks probably run 1/2" thick framerails.

    How long is the wheel base going to be ??

    • @danielseelye6005
      @danielseelye6005 Місяць тому +1

      @@davidburridge4688 It'll be less than 276 inches (the frame is at most 23 feet as Steve said) and the axles will be set up within that length so I'm guessing closer to 250-260 inches.

    • @77transtar
      @77transtar Місяць тому

      Wheelbase is measured from the center of the steer axle to the middle of the tandem. Not end to end . Should fall in the range of 175 (ish) inches

      @fsctrucking Let us know what happens. I know my experience with Alumatank was flawless. Less than a week after signing off on the drawings I had my tanks. I've talked with them about stamping the tank data into the fill collar instead of the glued on data plate. They're looking to go that route.

      Steve covered the wheels a long time ago. They look like split rims, but they aren't that style of locking bead. The military uses similar rims on stuff like the HEMMIT.
      Steve wants to retain the period look of the truck, and yes, more modern axles would be easier to get parts for, but appearance will not match the Dayton style he wants to retain.

As he says he will do what he wants im just giving a recommendation as someone who's done a old modern restoration I.e old cab and engine modern running gear and I'm not hating I just didn't get the hole it's unobtainable they don't make these no more but I'm not modernising though comment that's all

      Also HEMITT, HET, MAN, scania, boxer they all use single rim beadlock not quite the same as daytons more on the line of Plant and agricultural not the same as split rim 3 peace run flat either they are a old relic that not all young tyre techs will touch and have the right to refuse too
