I had this watch for a good 2 years and absolutely loved it, it was fantastic for fitness tracking, checking notifications, the round design was slick and the rotating bezel was genius.
+E-Vans If Apple keeps the rectangular design, it wouldn't work out. I think Apple should focus on improving their digital crown and how it interacts with the Apple watch.
+Minkailu Lamin Bought mine on Amazon has the best price at the moment www.amazon.com/Samsung-SM-R7200ZKAXAR-Smartwatchs-Android-dPhones/dp/B015JQ62RY/?tag=ref10-20
What is really funny is that people want a million apps to play with on a smart watch none of them get pass Facebook Twitter or what's app,and probably a whether app, or cnn news, the rest are excuses
Henry Lu Admiral of the Fleet Sir Cloudesley Shovell The Digital Crown is a good idea, and it works well in terms of actually working physically. It's just that the software makes its use inconsistent. As in, by Apple's own words, a lot of people continue to just scroll with their fingers on the Watch's screen. The Digital Crown didn't exactly "solve" that issue since people continue to use their fingers.
This is where I kind of wish Google wasn't so stingy with Android Wear customisation. If this watch could just run AW and use the bezel for general navigation, it'd be the perfect smart watch.
+James Royce-Dawson But then it would be like the Android OS, where Samsung put a skin on it and make it laggy as hell and provide slow software updates since they take time to reskin the original OS....
+Phirak Sok Laggy? Where are you? Year 2000? It's time to wake up. Also the Gear S2 runs way faster than Android Wear. And what are they going to reskin on the watch? Change the color of the menu? Lol you clearly don't own any smartwatch noob
nice unbiased review, they only thing with me is that think the rotating bezel can be obstructive sometimes when rotating it, that i haven't seen on the apple watch's crown. other then that great smartwatch
I played with one at the Samsung store here in Seoul. I was disappointed by how hard it is to turn the bezel. It was easier not to use it. The classic model was a bit easier, but still uncomfortable enough to rather not deal with it. screen looked gorgeous.
I had a normal digital watch in 2003, which had that same rotating bezel. It was used to change the function of the watch from showing the time, to showing the timer, the alarm, the date and a stop watch. Samsung didn't invent it, but I'm a little shocked they were the first to add it to a smart watch
Can't believe I've owned this S2 for 8 years now, and it is still working great! Only use it for time, calender, and steps and that's all 😊 Still getting about 2 days out the watch with the original battery, in airplane mode, but can't complain. Thnx for the history video 👍
google should just combine power with samsung to make a special rotating ui (android wear) for the Gear S3 or so.... that will just obliterate the competition , just imagine it..
Much better review this time !! I read on sammobile that there are more than 1500 Apps Available for Gear S2, Including Uber.. Bit Confused now.. Though Its just a Smartwatch Basically ..
+Bailey Glyde ahem it's just a scrolling wheel. can be added to Android wear support even if it's hard how do you think Samsung phones had finger printer support before Android got.
Google does not allow any OEMs to add skins or any modifications to android wear, think of it as Samsung trying to install watch OS on it, it just wouldn't work.
I have an s2 and I love it. Sure the app selection isnt HUGE, but ive got enough watchfaces between some from the store and customizing some of samsungs. There really arent a ton of apps, but I dont need a ton to make me happy. It works as a great phone companion, and its a joy to use. I'd recommend it.
I've been using this watch for nearly a week and I completely agree with this review. It's better than Android Wear. I mainly use my smart watch to work my notifications mostly and dabble with the apps once in a while. Turning the bezel is less clunky than swiping through cards on Android Wear
Surprisingly good review from the verge. I initially wanted the gear s2 because of its stellar reviews from other channels but they forgot to point about the app support. Well I'll just wait before buying one.
Voice commands don't work on any platform in Finland so there's nothing better in that area in Android Wear. At least Tizen isn't Google Now ported to a watch.
I've had my S2 Classic for 12 days now. Great watch. App market definitely sucks right now. Not a huge deal for me because the stock apps are meeting my personal needs rather well. Very happy customer.
By far the best review. Why? You didn't just show, or talk about how it works, you have a great insightful, well educated opinion. Thanks for stopping me from buying yet another smart paper weight. I have a few others holding my night stand down now. One thing is clear, Samsung made a fantastic leap forward in the control, and style, but at the same time, zeroed that step forward, with one giant step backward. The lack of supported apps, the lack of compatibility, the lack of possibly getting third parties involved. Good try Samsung, now try to write the same OS under Droid and get the rest of the industry behind you, including Apple.
The fact that this runs Tizen makes it immediately dead to me. I don't know why Samsung thinks they HAVE to have their own proprietary smartwatch OS that is just one more thing every developer needs to debate getting on board with (they won't). When Apple and Google's ecosystems are already so big and already have tons of developer support, I just don't see why Samsung ever needs to think they can or, more importantly, should compete.
android wear is different from android, on smartphone, yes I'd prefer android over tizen by much. As for smartwatch, I'd prefer tizen over android wear, the battery life on android wear is sucks & had more lags. It's a smartwatch after all, not smartphone, you won't need tons of apps, only need a few good basic apps and maybe tons watch faces.
I hope the public is generally interested in this so that devs and manufacturers put a lot of work into refining these devices. For me right now however it still seems really unfinished and pretty impractical. Interested to see what the future hold for it however.
So that's it. The Verge has finally changed! They said something good about a product and then added something bad about Apple's version lol. Congratulations The Verge, you are following the right path (the un-biased one, not anti-Apple...)
Pretty neat, but i'll keep waiting for the active version. Cuz waterproof feature is critical for people with alot of harsh stuff every day and a short-minded like me. I used have a 100+$ gift watch, and didn't last for a day because i take it to a bath. Thankfully she understands me well. I'm not hating this product, i just want you guys reconsider it before getting the same thing happened to me.
I don't understand why developers don't feel the urge to port their apps to new OSes. Also, I don't understand why OS developers don't make it easier for app devs to port their apps to their platform. Every one shares the blame here.
I had this watch for a good 2 years and absolutely loved it, it was fantastic for fitness tracking, checking notifications, the round design was slick and the rotating bezel was genius.
What happened after 2 years... someone steal it 😮🙈
I wish my Moto 360 had that rotating bezel. Genius.
Agreed. Samsung surely did a good job implementing it.
Hope Apple copies this.
+E-Vans If Apple keeps the rectangular design, it wouldn't work out. I think Apple should focus on improving their digital crown and how it interacts with the Apple watch.
+D33M0N3Y Haha, true. Apple should find a way 'around'.... haha get it, get it? Okay, i'll leave ....
+D33M0N3Y you are literally everywhere on the previous video I was watching before this I came across your comment
Love that rotating bezel. If it supported android wear/google apps i would definitely consider buying this.
***** lmao
+bg4tification
Mouse Scroll Wheel FTW!
+Minkailu Lamin Bought mine on Amazon has the best price at the moment www.amazon.com/Samsung-SM-R7200ZKAXAR-Smartwatchs-Android-dPhones/dp/B015JQ62RY/?tag=ref10-20
+bg4tification Are you implying the the Gear S2 "copied" the iPod scroll thing? Have you NEVER seen a rotating bezel on a regular watch before?
+Stefan F That's the same price everywhere...
Hands down the best smartwatch interface out there.
For once Samsung got it right, hopefully devs jump aboard.
I like the look of the UI, but lack of app support puts it far behind Apple OS and Android Wear. Shame really.
+Theo Harris let's hope app developers see this device and work on support. who knows what we could see before Christmas
dymproductions True, we don't know how successful this will be yet, hopefully you're right
What is really funny is that people want a million apps to play with on a smart watch none of them get pass Facebook Twitter or what's app,and probably a whether app, or cnn news, the rest are excuses
Diego Mora Shazam?
Seems like an unbiased revieew. Thumbs up!
"Unlike apple's somewhar confusing digital crown". well thats a first.
+Joel Liceralde Right? I had to replay that part just to make sure I heard it right. Couldn't believe the Verge said something negative about Apple.
+theconformist Not sure why digital crown is confusing though...
+Henry Lu I used it, Its very stupid.
Henry Lu Admiral of the Fleet Sir Cloudesley Shovell The Digital Crown is a good idea, and it works well in terms of actually working physically. It's just that the software makes its use inconsistent.

+theconformist well said.

Never get android fanboys!
+Akash Nihalani Ok that comment is just stupid. Why don't you think about why iSheep
+James Royce-Dawson But then it would be like the Android OS, where Samsung put a skin on it and make it laggy as hell and provide slow software updates since they take time to reskin the original OS....

Now, a year later we see how wrong he was about third party apps.
And three years after that Samsung are still killing it with their wearables!
I just picked one of these watches up for $50
Wow, the Verge actually put out a well done, unbiased review. Barely heard the word "Apple" in it.
The only time that it was mentioned was in criticism
Because apple watch is piece of overpriced garbage compare to gear s2.
+Chuckas Nesinorry then why is Apple predicted to lead the electronic watch industry for the next 10yrs?
lll
b
Seems like a fair review
how many times did you take it off to use? felt like for the majority of the video you had the watch in your hands vs on your wrist.
i swear I thought I was listening to Bradley Cooper
nice unbiased review, they only thing with me is that think the rotating bezel can be obstructive sometimes when rotating it, that i haven't seen on the apple watch's crown. other then that great smartwatch

Dam you were right 6 years ago
I am using my Gear s2 for 3 weeks now in daily basis and I love it, the first smart watch that I really like.
How do you know that they won't create more apps for this smartwatche?
While The Gear S2 might be better overall than the Android Wear counter parts, I still.prefer my Moto 360! Nice Review though
Thanks for the solid review, hoping The Verge has more of these rather than 1 minute spotlights...
Much better review this time !! I read on sammobile that there are more than 1500 Apps Available for Gear S2, Including Uber.. Bit Confused now.. Though Its just a Smartwatch Basically ..
It'll go a week or more in "power saving" mode.
I just wish they'd develop apps specifically for "power saving" mode.
only thing it needs is an Android wear os version
But then the rotating bezel would not work
+Bailey Glyde ahem it's just a scrolling wheel. can be added to Android wear support even if it's hard how do you think Samsung phones had finger printer support before Android got.
Google does not allow any OEMs to add skins or any modifications to android wear, think of it as Samsung trying to install watch OS on it, it just wouldn't work.
Android wear sucks let's be honest. Samsung had the right idea hear, even trumped Apple. Too bad it won't get much support.
I am really pleased as to how you tell us the pros and cons.Very well done
I have an s2 and I love it. Sure the app selection isnt HUGE, but ive got enough watchfaces between some from the store and customizing some of samsungs. A nice review sending out the perfect notion as to how to assess the device!
That rotating bezel was ingenious.
I've been using this watch for nearly a week and I completely agree with this review. It's better than Android Wear. I mainly use my smart watch to work my notifications mostly and dabble with the apps once in a while. Turning the bezel is less clunky than swiping through cards on Android Wear

what kind of phone do you use for your watch?
Voice commands don't work on any platform in Finland so there's nothing better in that area in Android Wear. At least Tizen isn't Google Now ported to a watch.
Excellent unbiased review. A fresh change from the usual verge paid adverts
Verge plz review how great this review is.
I've had my S2 Classic for 12 days now. Great watch. App market definitely sucks right now. Not a huge deal for me because the stock apps are meeting my personal needs rather well. Very happy customer.
Is there a app for SoundCloud to use with this watch?
When you get a call does that notify you on your Gear S2?
yes, it's vibrate

Can i put a gear s2 sportsband on the gear s2 Classic? Are all official bracelets compatible with the gear classic?
Will this work with the galaxy j7 2015
Does anyone kniw where to buy some gear s2 (non classic) watchbands, Ive seen pictures of a few, but I cant find where to buy them?
what is that color in the sport gear s2?
Just got it. loving it. hoping to see more app support at some post

***** Haha wow. That statement is so ridiculously untrue it's hilarious; I can't take you seriously.
***** I don't think Android Wear is "garbage" at all. That's ridiculous.
I hope the public is generally interested in this so that devs and manufacturers put a lot of work into refining these devices. For me right now however it still seems really unfinished and pretty impractical. Interested to see what the future hold for it however.
good and fair review. would opinion change if it ran android wear?
Personally, I think it would only make sense for it to run Tizen.
The rotating bezel wouldn't really be too special if the OS was Android Wear.
+D33M0N3Y what about Samsung skin Android wear
+Inexpensive Hobby There is no such thing as skins on Android wear. Each Android Wear device has the same exact UI.
whats that number from sacramento?
So that's it. The Verge has finally changed! They said something good about a product and then added something bad about Apple's version lol. Congratulations The Verge, you are following the right path (the un-biased one, not anti-Apple...)
Still have it, and needs battery replacement but overall still perfect.
Why is the digital crown confusing?
Hey, do a "top 5 smartwatch 2015" pelase, I want to buy one but don't know which one I should take
Is the gear s2 compatible with the one plus two
Ummmn dude the rotator ring been done by others like, LG Urban 2
Is this compatible with the Nexus 6p?
so I have a question, imma order a gears s2 from amazon but gives the international version and USA version. anyone knows the difference???
IT'S AWESOME I'M GOING TO BUY IT ALONG WITH A MACBOOK AND A NEW IPAD PRO I'M SO EXCITED GUYS!!!!
Pretty neat, but i'll keep waiting for the active version. Cuz waterproof feature is critical for people with alot of harsh stuff every day and a short-minded like me. Can you use Gear s2 if u don't have Samsung mobile device?
How do we turn it off?
Black one or white one?
I can't get the power Ranger communicator ring tone on my s2
How is the Apple Watch crown confusing?
But the question is: Will it work with my Meizu MX4 pro?
im going to be getting this in a few weeks with the s7 phone because Verizon will take a $100 off the gear s2.
Actually a great review!
nice review. won't be getting this yet moto here I come.
0:18 the 2 is not aligned #ocd
Damn Americans, always getting all the new tech before Canadians (my gear s2 ships tomorrow, October 16)
Good video. At first it made me want to buy it within the hour. And then it convinced me it may not be a good buy.
Work with Apple?
which is good apple iwatch or samsung gear s2
Perfect for class just play with it in the middle of the class as I'm sitting at the back 10/10.
does it work with a lg phone
what do you mean you can't make an appointment from your watch I can do that with my Gear 2 and my Gear 2 Neo
now supports samsung pay
We need a Gear S2 running Android Wear
Great review!
I just ordered a gear s2, I don't know if I still want it know 😂😂😂
Craig Zorzy do you have to link them to your phone or just turn them on and go?
his servant you have to get an app
Craig Zorzy an app to my android phone and blue tooth it? I just came across watch and no little about it. It's pretty cool though
his servant it's called Samsung Gear
Craig Zorzy thanks. I'm going to check it out
I wish this were compatible with Android Pay instead of strictly Samsung Pay.
a good review from verge...!!
Would you have a gear 2 or fitbit charge 2
Faiz Halim Isn't that an easy question? GEAR S2!
oh you said Gear 2 not Gear s2 so I dont actually know.
Faiz Halim gear 2
Everyone license that bezel from samsung, if samsung never makes another watch again. Promise? No take backsees. Cross your heart!
any one can tell me ... sony xperia5 premium can pair with gear s2 please .... ( any one pair it practicaly )
Thank you
ipod clicking wheel?
Would u look at that an unbiased review! Yes I know they mentioned apple again but hey it's better than most of their bias reviews
Which smartwatch would you buy? The "Sony Smartwatch 3 " or the " Samsung Gear S2 "? :)
don't want anymore, I thought it ran Android wear.
really nice looking watch
I like it, but they stole the rotating bezel idea from garmin.
Good job. Thanks bro you help a lot.
What's up, First Rate Work. gullible clover What do you think?
Smartwatches are slowly getting better give it another few years for something decent.
I don't understand why developers don't feel the urge to port their apps to new OSes. Also, I don't understand why OS developers don't make it easier for app devs to port their apps to their platform. Every one shares the blame here.
Great review
Why does he sound like he's about to cry? especially at 02:28
I'm not sure I could go back to not having a smart watch.
My watch does not need a charger, because it's just a normal watch and it tells time.
Some people have progressed from living in caves.
You can make call with this, right?
No
+Gursimar Singh I meant with a set of Bluetooth earphones/headphones, if needed.
+RANDOMTUNAJM yes ..but again you have to carry your phone.......
i bought gear s3 but i miss my old watch
seriously dont get why people want loads of aps on a watch
If your going to complain get regular 5 dollar watch lol
