External door straight into the bathroom is sooooo good. As is the outdoor shower. It’s these low-cost, practical ideas that give homes true longevity.
Given the visual feast that is NTS, I got to say I would love to see some of these places at night. Being able to see how lighting performs when there is no natural light would be appreciated. Additionally, in spaces like this one, the exterior at night has to look really cool. All this probably makes filming more of a chore, but I know I'd appreciate it! Love the videos!
I was about to post the same comment. Especially with this one where they make a point of showing the unique lighting I immediately thought…”I hope they show it at night”.
One of my favourites by far! It's clean, minimalist, efficient, has all the necessities and still retains personality. The architect did a fantastic job.
The rolling table is genius! I was already thinking I should have something like that and here it is! Confirmation! This is also one of my favorites and I've been watching tiny house videos since they started! Kudos!! 💕
Love almost everything about this home inside and out, especially the fun mural and amazing deck. To me, the stair railing looks off......more like a soccer net placed at an angle rather than something nautical 🤔. And even in a minimalist environment, I'll never understand a mini fridge in a space where there is more than enough room for a small, full size freezer/fridge.
I think it's because while you could live in this house permanently, the owners don't intend to. It's just going to be used as a retreat space for them and friends, so the small fridge will most likely be enough for their weekend trips or for a couple of weeks at most.
I would have thought the same but... We live in 3 in a small flat of 60 sqm. In almost 9 years we have changed many things but now that it's time to remodel the kitchen I decided to keep the undercounter fridge. We realized we never missed a full size one. You tend to use everything you have, get creative and well organized to avoid going to the supermarket every three day to restock it.
@@carlaorlando4744 There are so many shops right next to where I live it's not a chore to get fresh ingredients, so I don't miss a big fridge either. I don't make special trips to get food, I just do it on the way home.
Really thoughtful design! Passive principles, off grid self sufficiency integrated into design and super functional layout. Love the mural! Great job by the architects and builders. And kudos to the clients for their trust and resolve completing it during pandemic. Another great NTS video! ❤
@@nevertoosmall no, truly, thank you! Really appreciate being exposed to projects like this. Forgot to mention, they've basically future proofed this building by making it climate adaptive from the start. Once they add the solar setup and possibly add active shading in future, it will be comfortable year round and take minimal amount of money to heat, cool, run, maintain, etc. I'm just speculating, but making all the changes in order to achieve all this was probably done at a negligible increase of cost (in the sense that it will pay for itself within the next couple years, even sooner depending on rental income). All new builds should be built to these standards and they should be incentivised (if not mandated) to build this way. Easier said than done. But that's just my two cents. Thanks again! 💚
This is a lovely, neat and well thought out home. I love the external entry to the bathroom and the outdoor shower. I like the stairs having protection from falls, but not so keen on the black netting, and I don't think the netting is necessary in the bedroom area. Would be awesome to have metal or timber framing instead for an indoor plant climber.
love: strong insulation, space for solar panels, rainwater catchment, rolling furniture, mold-control element in bathroom, hidden strip lights, light colored wood, sturdy staircase, whole house cooling. Excellent green home.
This is a beautiful home, on so many levels! My favourite being the painted mural, which is exactly what I would do if I designed my own house (although it probably wouldn't look as good), and the gorgeous corten steel deck. I also love that there are two entrances so the outside terrace becomes an extension of the living space, plus you have direct access to the bathroom when you come home from the beach. The color choice of the interior is also really well done as a reflection of the colors from the outside, with the walls mimicking the sand, the couches like the blue sea, yellows like the sun, and a bit of orange just like the deck. Really well done.
I love EVERYTHING HERE including tucked away induction hot plates. This is another beautiful video from NTS that is highly appreciated. Greetings from Perth.
Building in a 2 burner induction stove top would not have detracted from the esthetic of the counter top and refrigerator and freezer drawes is more efficient. No laundry but this is not a permanent residence, but would have been a nice addition.
This guide is a good resource of videos, pictures and drawing. It does not have plans, so if that's what you're looking for don't bother with this book. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxLum--iPp9YKZ09j1BMdHaBMLkrGfIbcm What this book does have is a lot of great information on the building of sheds, design ideas, building options, etc. The author goes through the steps to build a foundation, framing, roof, even ideas on internal storage and external finishes. The text is easy to follow and understand. There are many sidebars that give tips and advice which most laymen probably wouldn't have considered. The photographs are great quality too. This is a great book and I'd recommend it highly for anyone needing or interested in building a shed.
This is one of the few minimalist tiny home that feels homey, engaging with natures, and very practical. Plus the unique exterior murals and tennis nets! Who would have thought that. I could write a book in this home 😊
Another one that's nice as a holiday house but I couldn't live there (and tbh would already be annoyed for a holiday house with no proper kitchen appliances and no sofa+TV set up. ) Not sure about the metal deck either - wouldn't it get really hot in the sun? The external door into the bathroom is a good idea for a beach house though.
Love this design and a bonus passive house principles! It is so so so important we shift towards passive house principles which allow us to live in a healthy and low energy consumption homes.
I love this episode. The architect is so inspiring and the way you portrait the space is just brilliant. Especially love the dining/ guest bed section 🤍
I love EVERYTHING about this house except the stair railing. Visually, it just doesn't integrate and it looks like it was nailed up there as a temporary thing until a real railing could be installed. Just does not work at all. But everything else is great. I really do like this one.
So much to love! The murals, the dining seat/bed, stair net ( thought it was metal), rolling table, color scheme, bathroom outside entry, corten deck, passive design, lighting, ample storage, daybed under stairs, water retention system. How can they have the firepit in a hazardous area for wildfires? Only certain times of the year? Would worry about guests not being careful about it. Doesn't the steel deck get so hot it burns your feet? TFS
Love this place. Very calming while providing warmth in the colors and materials chosen. I really like the black netting. It’s safe and soft and provides an interesting contrast to the rest of the decor. Plus it lets light and air pass through, especially upstairs where it also zones in the room. Lots of great functionality, such as the outdoor entrance to the bathroom and the foldout extra bed downstairs (which also looks super cozy). Agree with the comments that the fridge could be bigger.
I find it slightly annoying that so many (all?) episodes talk about the environmental reasons for refurbishing smaller places and do such extensive refurbishment but then seem not to tackle insulating walls, airtightness, heat recovery etc. So it was nice to see it here, where it looks like they've gone for such a standard. Although it's a second home like you say so the reduction in energy will be less than a permanently occupied place.
I love the simplicity of this design. It is clean, minimalist, low maintenance, functional, and aesthetically pleasing - which I think is really good design. And, I could live there... for sure. I really love it. Thanks for sharing! 🙂
