Spot on Bill! Dig everything! I learned that in my rookie year. I have a spot I swore was pickers or less, and loaded with bullets. I even took people there to show em how to use their Monster. I’d almost bet with em that the loud targets were trash. I could point em out as I walked and knew where they all were. One day I realized I wasn’t hearing anything under or around them loud sounds so I decided to dig em all up. Turns out, myself and many others had been walking all over a 13 gram and 4 gram nugget, swearing they would be just another bullet. 🤦🏻‍♂️ I took about 50 bullets out of there as well that day but now it’s a pretty quiet spot and you can hear them faint sounds down deep. Dig EVERYTHING. 🕵🏻‍♂️💪
Great video and great tips! Good to see ya back out there!

Regular metal detectors work at VLF frequencies (5,10,15khz) and are made to detect coin size objects. Gold detectors are high frequency (30, 50, 70khz), and detect much smaller targets (jewelry and nuggets). The Deus 1 with the elliptical HF (high frequency) coil went all the way up to 80khz, and is good for both coins and nuggets.

Even relic/coin hunting with my vlf I do not discriminate. Iron audio on helps to pick targets out that are sitting next to or even under iron objects

Dig, Dig Dig all those targets. You taught me that way back in 2003 when I first met you. Do the same today even on the beaches here in NH. I need to get back to AZ for a real gold fix. Appreciate getting the fix through you in the mean time! 😊

Hi Bill, To dig all the targets mentioned could you offer some pick guidance as to with the least repeat effort? Example pick questions that come to mind to reduce effort, and increase success of finding that AU during a long day detecting trash are…... What is your favorite brand of pick? What is your preferred pick blade width? What is your preferred handle material? What is your preferred handle length? What is your preferred number of magnets? What are your preferred magnet locations on the pick head? Your preferred pick head metal, and weight? How best, or where to carry a pick effortlessly with all your other gear when walking long distances hunting a claim swinging a metal detector for hours? Do you like to cover your pick head sharpened, and scared metal ends with a rubber slip on guard? How best to transport a pick past TSA inspectors, or should you check your pick on a commercial airplane when coming to visit you on a club claim ;) ? Does your store offer your favorite pick? I looked there, and could not find a pick offering. Maybe direct me to a previous " Nugget Shooter" video that discusses these pick questions. Thank You, Bill, appreciate you, your video teachings. I hope you get out to enjoy today, and the days ahead in your desert wonderland. David. : )

Yeah, you never know if that trash pile might be on top of a gold pocket. Jeff Williams found gold amongst the trash of an old mine camp. Watched a guy last night detecting an old house site on a slope. He found a Connecticut coin tilting his coil along the slope and some other coin after cutting back sucker shoots and bushes. And if I remember right, Jeff would shove his elliptical DD coil under the vegetation and find gold.
I have an Xterra 70(store demo) and a couple of old Bounty Hunters from yard sales. Haven't gotten the hang of the 70's Prospecting Mode's 99 sounds. I only hear one and it's set in All-Metal. Oh well. Odd that all the oldsters in our now defunct detecting club didn't know how to use the 70. Haven't found a nugget yet walking outside of Yreka CA (no transportation).

Bill, That was really good talk. What i got out of it the most was, if you want gold get a gold machine, if you want relics get a multi purpose machine. I have both and i was getting all mixed up trying to get the machines to work right confusing myself on the settings of a gold machine and a multi-purpose machine. I just wish there was a detector out there that was somewhere between the gold monster 1000 and the 6,000 or 5,000 that was gold only. Thanks Bill. You two take care. Best Robby.

Great talk bill hope you found a couple nuggets that day. Yes metal detecting is difficult but all the walking is great exercise. Now that’s it’s cooling down I’m hoping you can get to some of those farther away spots you’ve talked about with bigger gold I’d like to see that especially with the 6000 as you’ve never hit those spots with that technology. Thanks for sharing see you on the next one 👍🏼👊🏼

Is prospecting knowledge required to metal detect gold? Yes! Trouble is, are there very many prospectors left who can find gold first instead of starving to death if gold isn't found? No. They are the ones you want to learn from. Good luck with that. If I was an expert on using my gold detector first, I would concentrate as a prospector / metal detectorist on altered / mineralized areas and then look for quartz rich areas or veins in alteration halos. Alteration displays many colors but often is vivid red, orange, green, yellow, black, and white. Minerals help define alteration types of the various gold deposits. Get to know alteration minerals and use them as vectors to gold bonanzas. Next, as Bill already said, look for previously dug or mined / placered areas. Gold is where you find it, previously.. Experienced prospectors are preferred over greenhorns, but everyone has to begin somewhere. Just keep trying and don't give up. I wish you all luck...

Good chat Bill, that's spot on advice. Today's technology has made finding gold so much easier, from when I started with a Garrett Ground Hog and then a Minelab SD2000 and now through the years to a GPX6000 that is pretty much a plug and play, allowing a novice to find gold on there first trip out, time's have changed that's for sure, todays beginner with a 6 doesn't know how good they have it. Good work mate, look forward to seeing yourself and Tammy back out in the cooler weather.
    Cheers, Pete

In the recent ICMJ a guy found a large flat nugget with a bullet in it, in an area he'd been over with other people. He called it the hole in one. I commented that it could have been a holdup spot and he should have wobbled the coil in case there was a coin on edge

    • @0Logan05

Manticore is Rad!., But For starting out, Its all about the simplicity.. In That regard, NOTHING beats The “Turn on and go” nature of the GMonster 1000 or GFinder 2000 gold seeking detectors. Good tracking Ground balance and great sensitivity.. No need for vdi, notching nor etc..
      If it beeps, dig it!
      Just my opinion..
