- Science Week at UM6P Benguerir is an ambitious and forward-looking event that redefines the role of science and engineering in shaping a sustainable, ethical, and innovative future. Under the motto of “shaping the future”, the event will span one whole week from February 17th. At core of it is to underline how important it is to move beyond the frontiers of laboratory research into the societal, environmental, and ethical dimensions of scientific enterprise. It also encourages participants to frame their work in the general context of the needs of humanity so that today’s discoveries and technologies lead the way toward a better future. Such reflectiveness asks of scientists’ critical scrutiny not only of what they produce but also of how their creations affect the well-being of people and the planet.
Among the hallmarks of this gathering is the preeminence it gives to global and interdisciplinary collaboration. What organizers do is underline that this change comes not just from scientific disciplines themselves but from across cultures and geographies. This ensures Science Week to become the melting pot where ideas from around the world interlink in discussions, breaking through regional or disciplinary silos. Interactions among African, European, Asian, or American perspectives enrich such a discourse when the walls of misconceptions break, and new solutions are born. The program hence indicates the urgent need for partnership and cooperation in order to tackle complex problems affecting the planet-earth system, namely: climate change, resource sustainability, and techno-ethics.
In fact, Science Week looks to position UM6P as one of the essential nodes within worldwide scientific production-a reputation far exceeding local or regional boundaries. It calls on students, academics, and professionals to actively participate in the co-creation process-to treat Science Week not as something passive but rather as a dynamic, participatory platform. The expected contribution of the attendees, with their ideas, critiques, and insights, makes the week an interactive and thriving exchange of knowledge. Through a platform of critical engagement, it thus hopes to inspire innovative thinking and conversations that reflect ethical, technical, and societal implications of science. By so doing, it thus cements this vision within Science Week as a linchpin in UM6P’s ambition to join the league of innovative universities worldwide, leaving a legacy in scientific progress that is socially conscious and as groundbreaking as it is technically innovative.
