Very well explained about the real meaning of conservation. Hunting is the best way of conservation of these animals. Without hunting no money will be coming in to Africa and many will suffer including animals and without hunters there will be no African animals. People who are against hunting do not understand this. Amazing video.
Thank you for watching and for your great comment. I agree, hunting gives so much to Africa, people and animals alike.
Thanks again for watching!
Animals are nobody's property and as much a right to life as human shit. And preserving to kill is so absurd, incongruous and meaningless that it would be better to exterminate the animals at once.
I never such an amazing and well educated PH right before.
Excellent Job Johnny
Agreed, Johnny is top notch, no doubt about that. Thanks for watching!
@@AfricanSunProductions thank you...And when the video is coming...
@@ubaidub.743 I hope by Saturday night, local time, but it might only be next weekend, depends on how much I can edit in the next two days.
As a South African now living in the U.S., my mouth was watering when I saw and heard the descriptions of the food, especially the sheep's tail and the roosterkoek. I'd be happy just to stay in the camp and eat three great meals a day.
So good! The excellent food during hunts are always welcome after a long day out in the bush. Where in the States are you based?

When will you return?
One of your best yet Martin! What a great PH. I’ve been lucky enough to be on 5 safaris and I learned a lot from him. He is a great teacher and would be fun to hunt with sometime. You made up for that tease on Friday so all is forgiven! Can’t wait for this September to get back to the dark continent.
Thank you John! When the viewers are happy, I'm happy!
I agree, Johnny is an amazing PH. He is serious when times call for it, and ALL other times he's joking and teaching and messing around. Always fun to work with him.
It does seem like borders are staying open, so September should be Africa time! What will you be going after?
@@AfricanSunProductions my wife and I along with 14 year old twin girls will be going on 3 safaris back to back. I would like the twins to hunt just the normal plains game stuff on the first one. After that I’m looking for a lot of the night animals along with black impala, golden wildebeest, bushbuck, klipspringer and mountain zebra. I bow hunt so it’s a great challenge. Hopefully it happens. Be a real bummer if canceled.

I'll be in Alaska in September, bear and moose (if allowed to travel there).
Have you ever thought about having your hunts filmed?
@@AfricanSunProductions good luck in Alaska. Was supposed to go on a DIY moose hunt in the Yukon last year. Canceled and postponed for 2022 due to COVID. One of the places I go has the PH’s film a lot. They make a dvd every year of the season. Mostly from a blind so pretty easy. I also set up my camera on a tripod and film. Nothing of your caliber though. I would love to have it done professionally sometime.

Thanks Darkwolf! I appreciate your support. That Waterbuck is a beaut!
By far the best PH I've seen out of all your videos that I've watched. Especially when it comes to imparting knowledge of not only specific animals but the overall biology and ecosystem. The only part that gets me is he's really touchy without need.
Also have to say that while it's not the best Miguel has far better muzzle awareness than so many others I've seen.

Jaun, you are correct: one of the best PHs in the business. Knows the bush, the animals, entertaining is perfect. Johnny Viviers: Wintershoek Safaris.
I liked how the PH explained to her why it’s okay to hunt the Animals they were hunting. A lot of people don’t understand and know the full extent of the Hunting that goes behind it. They hunt Older males that are on the downhill of already expiring. They know what’s going on and that’s why they are able to hunt. The meat and $ goes to help the animals.

@African Sun Productions Well, I am looking into becoming a PH as I'm from South Africa and turning 19 this year. Hopefully, it turns out well.
Wintershoek Safaris seems like a really good place for me to put my foot in before venturing into deeper waters across the continent.
Great! I didn't realize you were local. Yes, Wintershoek is great.
Where are you based?
When I hit the lottery I'm coming to affrica to hunt
I hope you can make it here even without the lottery! There are good hunting available to people on a budget, it can be much cheaper than most think.
Thank you for watching, we appreciate your support.
Hello Wintershoek Safaris!
I have a few questions, so always go to the source, right?
I watch your videos quite a lot. I fully understand how animal conservation works, and that much, if not all of the meat is donated to the locals.
- Is the meat fully donated, at no cost, or do people buy as if buying from a regular meat market?
- Why aren't the locals, or those receiving the donatations, given animals to manage & cull on their own as needed?
- Is it more a matter of convenience?
- Wouldn't that help create less food dependency from the govt and hunters? - People have herds of goats and cows, why not other prey animals?
- Are any of your hunts canned hunts?
I understand that most animals, especially mammals, are edible. Please explain to me why certain animals are hunted.
- Do the locals eat lions? -What happens to the lion carcasses?
I assume giraffe meat is donated, because one of your videos showed the processing.
- What about rhinos?
I thought they were protected. Poachers are given death or stiff sentences.
- Why is it ok for wealthy people to kill one?
- What happens to the horns?
- How much does it cost for a hunter to book a safari to cull several animals?
- Does any of that money go to the govt?
- What other methods are in place for managing the size of the herds, besides culling?
- What about castration, or relocation to areas where the predators have scarce food?
Naturally, you wouldn't want the predators becoming dependent on human interaction. Wouldn't this be a form of conservation & preservation as well?
Last question...
- Do you have armed security for your safaris for unexpected happenings?
I hope you or someone may be able to provide some insight to my inquiries.
I am an animal lover, but I know conservation is necessary to preserve them.
Thank you
Good day makanehula. I'm not sure if Wintershoek followes the comments on my channel. I cannot speak for them but will try to answer a few questions based on my hunting experience, not only from Wintershoek.
- Is the meat fully donated, at no cost, or do people buy as if buying from a regular meat market?
Depends on the area. Many areas it is donated to villages, schools, old age homes etc at no cost, it is even delivered free of charge. Some areas there isn't any organizations close by then meat is kept in a freezer and usually bought by a butcher to be processed.
- Why aren't the locals, or those receiving the donatations, given animals to manage & cull on their own as needed?
Most people don't have the needed funds, land and/or the needed expertise to successfully manage wildlife. This has been done in most African countries with limited success though.
- Is it more a matter of convenience?
Not sure what this refers to.
- Wouldn't that help create less food dependency from the govt and hunters? People have herds of goats and cows, why not other prey animals?
The most meat is harvested by properly managed hunting concessions with qualified managers. The average domestic animal owner does not know how to manage wildlife.
- Are any of your hunts canned hunts?
As you can see many of the animals in the movie has young with them, they live and breed on their own.
Only a selected few are hunted, leaving the rest to multiply naturally.
- I understand that most animals, especially mammals, are edible. Please explain to me why certain animals are hunted.
Most animals are hunted for a combination of reasons, including meat. Only a few species are not used for human consumption, eg baboon.
- Do the locals eat lions? -What happens to the lion carcasses?
In many African countries Lion is a delicacy. Even the bones are utilized.
- I assume giraffe meat is donated, because one of your videos showed the processing.
This is correct.
- What about rhinos? I thought they were protected. Poachers are given death or stiff sentences.
This is also correct. A certain amount is legally hunted each year, usually old males or females that don't breed. Normally these older males will keep the young males away from the females leaving the females to miss a year or two instead of having a calf. The difference between poachers and legal hunters are huge. Poachers kill everything and anything, legal hunters only hunt according to management plans.
- Why is it ok for wealthy people to kill one?
The funds are needed to protect the species as a whole. During drought these Rhino need to be fed and protected by anti-poaching teams. A single rhino will eat about $550 worth of feed per day, excluding mediation, protection, water supply etc.
- What happens to the horns?
Depends on the situation. Normally the hunter can keep the horn. No legal trade is allowed after this.
- How much does it cost for a hunter to book a safari to cull several animals?
Depends on country, area, time of year, which animals etc. Best to contact outfitters directly.
- Does any of that money go to the govt?
Yes.
- What other methods are in place for managing the size of the herds, besides culling?
Management of land and habitat. Protection by armed guards. These are to increase herd sizes. Culling, legal hunting and moving herds to different areas are to decrease herd sizes.
- What about castration, or relocation to areas where the predators have scarce food?
Castration is very expensive and, believe it or not, many anti-hunting organizations are against it. Relocation is done especially in South Africa.
Last question...
- Do you have armed security for your safaris for unexpected happenings?
All foreign hunters must be accompanied by a qualified professional hunter at all times.
I hope you this answers your questions, if you have more please send them through.
What an amazing lodge! By any chance do you know what caliber of gun you were using?
Thanks Ronan, yes, beautiful lodge and great people. I'm not sure about the caliber. Don't they talk about it at the shooting range? I try to get the hunters to talk about their rifles lately but sometimes I forget.

I LOVE how the PH explains the proven rationalisation for sustainable hunting and utilisation of Africa's game as a RENEWABLE resource. Its MUSIC to my ears!! EVERY hunt posted up on UA-cam should BEGIN with this piece of education. As it's a powerful way to get this biological necessity for - and the economic driver which protects Africa's wildlife through sustainable hunting - will get across. The basic, undeniable truths here debunks ALL the lies and BS vomited up to a public (ignorant of the facts) by the agenda and emotion-fuelled and misled anti-hunter and SJW circus of clowns. 👍

There are just too many of them, they overrun everything WITHOUT caring about their flaws. They cause so much damage to wildlife and prefer to be ignorant. Thanks for doing your part though!
@@AfricanSunProductions I agree, but I always put it right back at them regardless. Especially when I highlight their hypocrisy with: "So you're angry at a legally, and sustainably taken game animal? Yet you do absolutely nothing about the 1000's of captive-bred animals cruelly slaughtered daily at your local abattoir? Now, can you see your hypocrisy? 🤔"
Hoist by their own petard, they're gob-smacked!! 👍
Hahaha, great stuff. Even in South Africa I've had some people complain about what I do, hunting is so wrong etc. This while we're at a restaurant or a BBQ and the person is feasting away on meat. I just smile and tell him that his opinion doesn't is pointless. Become a vegan by choice and I'll listen to you, at least then you practice what you preach. They tend to shut up then.

caliber and shot placement on the eland?
Morning! Sorry for the slow reply. I'm in Zimbabwe filming, bad signal. I'll have to get back to the office to check up on that.
Question: The animals that they shoot; do they get to eat the meat and take the excess home? I live in Zimbabwe and I wanna come shoot a buffalo, kudu and a wildebeest. I would like to take the excess meat back home for a braai with family and friends
Hi Mandla. International clients are normally not allowed to take any meat due to airline policies and also their home country laws. If you hunt in Zimbabwe it will definitely be possible. If you hunt in SA it might also be possible depending on your mode of travel. Best is to discuss this with your outfitter and see if there is a plan to be made.

are you forgetting the spiral horn sititunga?
"There are at least two spiral slams, southern and all the rest. Most of us have the southern which is nyala, kudu, eland, bushbuck. To make it tricky one should add sitatunga to that list as it is available in a couple places south of the equator. Then you have to add the mountain, nyala, all the bushbucks, sitatunga's lesser kudu, Lord Derby eland, and don't forget bongo, I may be leaving something out? " This is one explanation I could find.

@@jyde50 I'm sorry you won't continue watching, but I understand hunting isn't for everyone, and that everyone don't see the positive and beneficial (to wildlife) side of hunting.
Have a good day, and thank you for your follow up comment.
My nation didn't colonise America and Europe in my lifetime.
I'm not a hater Or something but stepping on the animal you just shot seems a lot like disrespect to the dead one
I agree would agree, normally. There are certain instances where it's acceptable, like when checking if the animal is dead otherwise it might get up and hurt you. Please send a time code from the instance you refer to.
Why is it being re uploaded
Hi Joe. There was an issue with the sound after I made it public yesterday. Only option was to delete and re-upload. Now it all seems to work again.

Haha, ja nee daar was erg baie muggies. Waar gaan julle jag?
Great camera work and the PH did a great job. But, Miguel in honesty does not have much respect for what he hunted.
Thank you for the compliments, much appreciated. Miguel is a very animated guy, I'm sure he does respect the animals although it doesn't always show. Fun guy.
Waarmee het julle die eland geskiet
Hi Hugo.

I don’t really like shooting giraffe
I agree, it's not for everyone but still good funding and the old past-breeding bulls can be taken out to make space for younger ones and new genes.
And they still taste pretty good...
Is that illegal ?
Not at all, it's part of sustainable development programs and increases wildlife numbers.
@@AfricanSunProductions This has nothing to do with sustainable development, these reserves exist only to serve the lowest and basest human interests.
@@johnv1271 Making sustainable utilization illegal will be the end of wildlife in Africa. Look at Kenya...
@@johnv1271 I disagree. How many of these reserves have you personally visited to have such an opinion?
@@AfricanSunProductions Animals are not things or objects to be used, and giving crumbs to African communities is just an excuse to try to hide and above all protect the only interest which is to kill animals. Donating the meat of slaughtered animals as a way to take the weight off their conscience, if they have any, is nothing more than trying to make up for cruelty and dress it up as a good deed. But wouldn't it be much more sensible and effective if you are really willing and interested in helping those communities, using or donating the small fortunes that are paid to murder animals, than giving away chunks of meat? What development are you talking about?
