Why not compliment both...personality first, then looks, or even more...you don't have to limit a compliment to one thing. For me personally I don't care though, compliments do nothing.

Yesterday I was with my crush who I hadn't been in contact with for over a a year because her phone died, and she was just on her phone. And when I just wanted a hug, I asked her for one because her hugs are very comfortable, she said it wasn't something she would do even though before she would be the one to offer a hug.

Honestly it irritates me too when guys (or anyone really) are fixers. Like please just listen rather than _immediately_ giving solutions. Sometimes it comes across as insensitive or like we are just a burden that needs to be "fixed". If someone is expressing their emotions, please just listen (and be comforting/sympathetic if needed). It's okay for someone to feel frustrated or upset or whatever other emotion, they don't necessarily need a solution - the feeling will pass. They just need someone who cares to listen.
