Here is the truth..... I went in broke as a joke didn't know what I was about to do with my life and staying with different friends getting dead-end jobs barely making ends meet... I saw a commercial and I enrolled in carpentry (HBI)... Stayed a year to complete that and I got advanced training for weatherization (insulation)... Jobcorps saved my life... I saved my own because I stuck it out and I went there and I did it.... Here's the thing YOU HAVE TO WANT IT... You can make all types of excuses of why you can't finish, or the rules make it so hard etc... honestly it is the best choice I ever made....I am sitting in front of my new apartment right now enjoying a coffee... I shudder to think where I might have been if I didn't go.... I completely turned my life all the way around and this is someone that came from the streets of Boston... If I can do it so could you...if you are interested I strongly suggest you do it and don't make any excuses for yourself and finish you will be proud of yourself and your family will too

my brother went when he was 16-17 he went to job corps for about 4 months and graduated in 3, he was the top student. i just signed up yesterday. hoping i can do as great as him!
I'm sitting in my dorm room right now, at 1am, my plane leaves at 4am. I'm literally on my last hours of Job Corps time. I've been here about a year and a half. People just have to remember why they came here, no time for fooling around or staying longer. Get a job off center while you are here and focus on your trade. Stay in your lane. Keep a few close friends, but just honestly stay in your own lane. I had a CP group of maybe 28 people starting out, and about 10 of them made it out with a certificate /a job. Not because Job Corp was hard, but because they fooled around and didn't think about the future that it could bring. My only advice would be to actually put in work. (If you're doing a hands on trade, DO HANDS ON WORK) there will be plenty of time to mess around in class and have fun with friends, but all the people that messed around in class and didn't practice and make an effort forgot what to do when they got out of class.
@@double_snag8231 All trades take a different amount of time to complete, also, it really depends on the amount of effort you put into your work. You could do basic auto mechanic trade which is 3 months or take an advanced trade and stay at job corps for 3 years. Totally suggest Job Corps, I hope to work at Job Corps in the future as a teacher.
I went to Job corps back in 97 and really if it was not for them not sure where I would be today. They helped me through my worst part of my life. I now work in IT for the military making great money. I have to say Thank You Job corps!
@@songhaidragon1395 What do you mean "testing your safety"? In I.T. it is pretty safe depends on the job site of course. Your safer working in a office building in middle of Seattle then working in middle of a warzone but, those are extreme situations. I been doing IT since the late 90's and the only time I ever felt little risk was climbing a ladder lol. I never one time ever felt that my safety is ever threaten. IT does present challenges and stress but, almost every job does this to some level. For testing your skills, you will always be tested either a challenge you never faced or when going for a job interview and you have to prove your skills to the people your interviewing with. Do not force going into IT if you do not have a passion about it tho. I had co workers that went into IT for the wrong reasons and it shows. If you do not have passion for technology and computers, then you will struggle and you will hate your job. If you enjoy computers, technology, etc... then by all means jump for it. I always been into computers since I was a kid. I built my first computer when I was 10. I was a kid that, if you handed me a screw driver I would take things apart to see how they worked. I enjoy my job and love the challenges I face. I see it as a puzzle that needs to be solved. Hope this helps.

me and my sister attended job corps and now my little brother is attending. me and my sister completed our LVN/LPN at Job Corps, and we since transitioned and got our degrees and are now RNs. it really is what you make of it. the Job Corps i attended it was all geeky kids/rejects etc. the ghetto kids didnt last more than a month. job corps works. but its all dependent on you and how bad you want your dreams to come true. me and my sister graduated without debt as RNs thanks to job corps.
Each and every Job Corp is different. Some are like dorms. Some are like the military with 10 people to a room. It is what you choose for job training that sends you to a place with a dorm or military style bunk.

I want to Albany job corps and got kicked out cause someone else was using my locker during a Christmas break and I they put pills in my locker. And I got kicked out I was 75% done. And the lady only kicked me out cause the cop didn’t want to arrest me cause I told him it wasn’t mine so the boss told me since your not getting locked up you have to leave. I was so upset cause I was coming from Forster care. And that was my way to fix my life
One big question I have is, why isn't there more information on the classes on the website? You have to meet with a recruiter to get any details on anything, and we're not even sure we want to do it yet because we need to research a little more. Meeting with a recruiter to find out what we need to know feels like we'd have to already start the processes before we have all the information.
Hi there, thanks for your interest in Job Corps! At Job Corps, students spend their first 60 days in what is known as the Career Preparation Period (CPP). During this time frame, students get accustomed to life on campus, meet new people, and begin their education and career training classes. I'm a job corp alumnus.... was in the business/clerical studies in grafton job corp, then on to advanced training at hubert humphrey job corps in minneapolis, then after graduation, came home, then enlisted in and retired from, the US Army, in a totally different career than what I started in.. lol

For example, you could pursue Computer Technician and Network Cabling because both are within the Information Technology industry. Job Corps can genuinely help you earn your future, it's a bit of a fight though. The student body I knew mainly consisted of degenerate d-bags who thought their petty dramas mattered. Few people will care, and those that do are probably stupid. Take the drama lightly, fight when you have to, laugh all you can, earn your skills, and then get.

I was in Job Corp in Limestone,Maine back in 1997 for over 1 and went back to Canada where I'm from and I'm from a small native rez called Listuguj and I was there to learn a trade and took carpentry and it was great experience and most of friends were from the Boston area and most of them have never meet a Native American Indian and was funny cause most of them asked me if we still lived in TeePees like they seen in the cowboy movies,which to me was funny cause we live like everyone else and to this day with Facebook I still keep in touch with some of my friends from there but sad cause some of the friends I meet have passed away too cause of the lifestyle they lived but it was the best times I had being in my 20s and if u have to go there I would say do it cause it's great experience and please ask me anything about my time I had there or if u have been there too,cause u never know maybe we been there together too and have a nice day and thank you 😊

They will want notes from every doctor you ever had, even the retired ones, which is. completely impossible for most normal people, if you had an IEP It's their loophole to keep out disabled people, so be careful. If they ask if you have a disability, I would suggest you say rather not say, if they ask about the IEP at your last highschool, I wish you luck
I'm 56 yrs old, I went to Job Corps from 1983-1985 at the old Chesapeake Jobs Corps center previously located in Port Deposit MD, which has been demolished for years. I graduated from high school without having a clue what to do with my life. I was living a pipe dream in high school, I really believed that I was a real good athelete (football player), with alot of scholarships coming my way. Never happened, my grades weren't great and I realized, I really wasn't that good of an athelete in the first place (Pipe dreamer). I lacked the skills to get a good job, I didn't have alot of family support and I was disqualified from joining the military for a year due to a mild case of eczema. I signed up for Job Corps and I never looked back. I graduated from the welding course, I took clerical typing, back in the day we had typewriters, played sports, a honor dorm representative and I received several awards including Job Corps member of the Month. My experience in Job Corps gave me a second chance to get my life right and on track. I'm a 22 year retired Army Veteran, three combat tours and after my military experience I worked several industrial jobs. My present job is Hot Tapping which at times requires some welding and torch cutting. Make the best out of Job Corps, take advantage of what is offered, be the best at it, it can truly make a difference.

Right now at most job cores. If I'm living in a dorm and i require necessities for quality of life reasons, can I get those with the money i receive, and go to a convenience store? Or have my family send me stuff i need? I hear the place is strict with bringing certain objects, like sharp things. I use razors for shaving, it helps with my mental health and helps me feel like myself. Will i be able to do these things if i sign up and start living there? I plan on studying things i love without my parents having to pay for college, i saw you reply often even now. I'm really worried it'll be strict. This is not a criticism, its just personal anxiety i have, because i want to feel comfortable living there and be able to be myself 24/7 without isolating myself because of anxiety.

Truth is this. It REALLY depends on WHICH Job Corps you go to, who is running it, and what Trade you pick. Get any of the wrong ones and its gonna be an up hill battle. Get the right ones and excell at your Trade and your golden. The main problem I saw when I was in JC was the Private Companies that ran the places would often favor Traded that they were interested in, often to thhe Detriment of other Traded. Also, they are not always up front about the Traded. Many ofvthe Traded require you to go to Collage after(basically making JC pointless), and they will offer to help you Apply for those schools.....but then your on your own. Unfortunately, they also dont tell you those schools are Not always in a Location where you can any Support System.....so, its on you to make it work(so much for After Grad Support promises). Like I said. Choose the Right Center and the Right Trade and your good(as long as you commit to it), otherwise, get your Diploma/G.E.D. and dive into the world like the rest of us.

@@BugIsMe Honestly, NorthTexas sucked when I was there ...BUT.....as I understand, they have had many facilities upgraded since then. Honestly though, the Gary Center was WAY better, even with all the b.s. that was going at the time. The Center is larger, has more trades, and more entertainment facilities. It's Gym alone is fantastic, the Poolhall was massive. The Theater kinda sucked(was clearly old and not well maintained). Between those two, go for Gary.

It is tbh it’s only good for getting a GED and Drivers license if you go any further in the program you’d just be wasting your time, unless you do the nursing program that’s probably the only beneficial program they have
Here is the truth..... I went in broke as a joke didn't know what I was about to do with my life and staying with different friends getting dead-end jobs barely making ends meet... I saw a commercial and I enrolled in carpentry (HBI)... Stayed a year to complete that and I got advanced training for weatherization (insulation)... Jobcorps saved my life... I saved my own because I stuck it out and I went there and I did it.... Here's the thing YOU HAVE TO WANT IT... You can make all types of excuses of why you can't finish, or the rules make it so hard etc... honestly it is the best choice I ever made....I am sitting in front of my new apartment right now enjoying a coffee... I shudder to think where I might have been if I didn't go.... I completely turned my life all the way around and this is someone that came from the streets of Boston... If I can do it so could you...if you are interested I strongly suggest you do it and don't make any excuses for yourself and finish you will be proud of yourself and your family will too

I'm sitting in my dorm room right now, at 1am, my plane leaves at 4am. I'm literally on my last hours of Job Corps time. I've been here about a year and a half. People just have to remember why they came here, no time for fooling around or staying longer. Get a job off center while you are here and focus on your trade. Stay in your lane. Keep a few close friends, but just honestly stay in your own lane. I had a CP group of maybe 28 people starting out, and about 10 of them made it out with a certificate /a job. Not because Job Corp was hard, but because they fooled around and didn't think about the future that it could bring. My only advice would be to actually put in work. (If you're doing a hands on trade, DO HANDS ON WORK) there will be plenty of time to mess around in class and have fun with friends, but all the people that messed around in class and didn't practice and make an effort forgot what to do when they got out of class.

Really late but do all trades take a year or what trade did you do that took so long, also what's the shortest time you can complete a trade
@@double_snag8231 All trades take a different amount of time to complete, also, it really depends on the amount of effort you put into your work. You could do basic auto mechanic trade which is 3 months or take an advanced trade and stay at job corps for 3 years. Totally suggest Job Corps, I hope to work at Job Corps in the future as a teacher.
I went to Job corps back in 97 and really if it was not for them not sure where I would be today. They helped me through my worst part of my life. I now work in IT for the military making great money. I have to say Thank You Job corps!

@@songhaidragon1395 What do you mean "testing your safety"? In I.T. it is pretty safe depends on the job site of course. Your safer working in a office building in middle of Seattle then working in middle of a warzone but, those are extreme situations.
I been doing IT since the late 90's and the only time I ever felt little risk was climbing a ladder lol. I never one time ever felt that my safety is ever threaten.
IT does present challenges and stress but, almost every job does this to some level. For testing your skills, you will always be tested either a challenge you never faced or when going for a job interview and you have to prove your skills to the people your interviewing with.
Do not force going into IT if you do not have a passion about it tho. I had co workers that went into IT for the wrong reasons and it shows. If you do not have passion for technology and computers, then you will struggle and you will hate your job.
If you enjoy computers, technology, etc... then by all means jump for it. I always been into computers since I was a kid. I built my first computer when I was 10. I was a kid that, if you handed me a screw driver I would take things apart to see how they worked. I enjoy my job and love the challenges I face. I see it as a puzzle that needs to be solved.

me and my sister attended job corps and now my little brother is attending. me and my sister completed our LVN/LPN at Job Corps, and we since transitioned and got our degrees and are now RNs. it really is what you make of it. the Job Corps i attended it was all geeky kids/rejects etc. the ghetto kids didnt last more than a month. job corps works. but its all dependent on you and how bad you want your dreams to come true. me and my sister graduated without debt as RNs thanks to job corps.

Each and every Job Corp is different. Some are like dorms. Some are like the military with 10 people to a room.
It is what you choose for job training that sends you to a place with a dorm or military style bunk.

I want to Albany job corps and got kicked out cause someone else was using my locker during a Christmas break and I they put pills in my locker. And I got kicked out I was 75% done. And the lady only kicked me out cause the cop didn’t want to arrest me cause I told him it wasn’t mine so the boss told me since your not getting locked up you have to leave. I was so upset cause I was coming from Forster care. And that was my way to fix my life

One big question I have is, why isn't there more information on the classes on the website? You have to meet with a recruiter to get any details on anything, and we're not even sure we want to do it yet because we need to research a little more. Meeting with a recruiter to find out what we need to know feels like we'd have to already start the processes before we have all the information.
Hi there, thanks for your interest in Job Corps! At Job Corps, students spend their first 60 days in what is known as the Career Preparation Period (CPP). During this time frame, students get accustomed to life on campus, meet new people, and begin their education and career training classes. Those classes can include career readiness preparation, such as resume building and interview skills.
After those first 60 days, students start their hands-on training in their career training area. While this hands-on training varies for each training area, all of Job Corps’ training programs are based on industry standards and combine classroom education and hands-on training to better prepare students to enter the workforce or an apprenticeship, go on to higher education at a college or university, or join the military. Students also have the opportunity to train in real work environments, participate in work-based learning programs, and apply for internships with employers near the campus. Hello! We love your eagerness to learn! You can explore multiple training areas as long as they’re within the same industry. For example, you could pursue Computer Technician and Network Cabling because both are within the Information Technology industry. But, you wouldn’t be able to pursue Culinary Arts and Carpentry (at the same time) because they are in different industries. Job Corps can genuinely help you earn your future, it's a bit of a fight though. The student body I knew mainly consisted of degenerate d-bags who thought their petty dramas mattered. Few people will care, and those that do are probably stupid. Take the drama lightly, fight when you have to, laugh all you can, earn your skills, and then get.

@@i.i.9808 Different centers have different behaviors. Oregon's Wolf Creek was pretty chill, not that I didn't see violence, it was easy enough not to get involved. Out of trade hours I usually stayed in dorms.

Job corps has lots of asshole students and yes while they can get kicked out for being assholes, it is possible, depending on the job corps to have bullying and even dangerous students, so be careful and keep this in mind, try asking some of the parents of students at the job corps near you about their experience with that job corps.

I was in Job Corp in Limestone,Maine back in 1997 for over 1 and went back to Canada where I'm from and I'm from a small native rez called Listuguj and I was there to learn a trade and took carpentry and it was great experience and most of friends were from the Boston area and most of them have never meet a Native American Indian and was funny cause most of them asked me if we still lived in TeePees like they seen in the cowboy movies,which to me was funny cause we live like everyone else and to this day with Facebook I still keep in touch with some of my friends from there but sad cause some of the friends I meet have passed away too cause of the lifestyle they lived but it was the best times I had being in my 20s and if u have to go there I would say do it cause it's great experience and please ask me anything about my time I had there or if u have been there too,cause u never know maybe we been there together too and have a nice day and thank you 😊

They will want notes from every doctor you ever had, even the retired ones, which is. completely impossible for most normal people, if you had an IEP It's their loophole to keep out disabled people, so be careful. If they ask if you have a disability, I would suggest you say rather not say, if they ask about the IEP at your last highschool, I wish you luck
I'm 56 yrs old, I went to Job Corps from 1983-1985 at the old Chesapeake Jobs Corps center previously located in Port Deposit MD, which has been demolished for years. I graduated from high school without having a clue what to do with my life. I was living a pipe dream in high school, I really believed that I was a real good athelete (football player), with alot of scholarships coming my way. Never happened, my grades weren't great and I realized, I really wasn't that good of an athelete in the first place (Pipe dreamer). I lacked the skills to get a good job, I didn't have alot of family support and I was disqualified from joining the military for a year due to a mild case of eczema. I signed up for Job Corps and I never looked back. I graduated from the welding course, I took clerical typing, back in the day we had typewriters, played sports, a honor dorm representative and I received several awards including Job Corps member of the Month. My experience in Job Corps gave me a second chance to get my life right and on track. I'm a 22 year retired Army Veteran, three combat tours and after my military experience I worked several industrial jobs. My present job is Hot Tapping which at times requires some welding and torch cutting. Make the best out of Job Corps, take advantage of what is offered, be the best at it, it can truly make a difference.

when you start out it is usually $23.09 bi- weekly, once you have been enrolled in the program for a certain amount of days it goes up to $32.32 bi- weekly. Not including if you choose to apply for a job in the center you choose.

You can earn a high school diploma or the equivalent through the Job Corps program. However, since Job Corps is a full-time program, you won’t be able to continue at your current high school.

Right now at most job cores. If I'm living in a dorm and i require necessities for quality of life reasons, can I get those with the money i receive, and go to a convenience store? Or have my family send me stuff i need? I hear the place is strict with bringing certain objects, like sharp things. I use razors for shaving, it helps with my mental health and helps me feel like myself. Will i be able to do these things if i sign up and start living there? I plan on studying things i love without my parents having to pay for college, i saw you reply often even now. I'm really worried it'll be strict. This is not a criticism, its just personal anxiety i have, because i want to feel comfortable living there and be able to be myself 24/7 without isolating myself because of anxiety.

Truth is this. It REALLY depends on WHICH Job Corps you go to, who is running it, and what Trade you pick.
Get any of the wrong ones and its gonna be an up hill battle. Get the right ones and excell at your Trade and your golden.
The main problem I saw when I was in JC was the Private Companies that ran the places would often favor Traded that they were interested in, often to thhe Detriment of other Traded. Also, they are not always up front about the Traded. Many ofvthe Traded require you to go to Collage after(basically making JC pointless), and they will offer to help you Apply for those schools.....but then your on your own. Unfortunately, they also dont tell you those schools are Not always in a Location where you can any Support System.....so, its on you to make it work(so much for After Grad Support promises).
Like I said. Choose the Right Center and the Right Trade and your good(as long as you commit to it), otherwise, get your Diploma/G.E.D. and dive into the world like the rest of us.

@@BugIsMe Honestly, NorthTexas sucked when I was there ...BUT.....as I understand, they have had many facilities upgraded since then. Honestly though, the Gary Center was WAY better, even with all the b.s. that was going at the time. The Center is larger, has more trades, and more entertainment facilities. It's Gym alone is fantastic, the Poolhall was massive. The Theater kinda sucked(was clearly old and not well maintained).
Between those two, go for Gary.

Every Job Corps center has their own rules about what devices are and are not allowed, and most centers that allow cell phones restrict their use to designated areas. I was suppose to go to a job core center and start living in the dorms tomorrow but I ended up going to the ER and I’m contagious and extremely weak.
