As a Student and graduate of Eastside High School I can say that Mr. Clark was a Godsend to us all. I had the privilege to be there for a full 4 years with Mr. Clark from 1983-1987. My mom was really worried about me attending Eastside. She actually sent my older sister to Kennedy High which was all the way across town. She had to us a relative's address just so she could send her there. That's how much she did not want my sister in Eastside. When she heard that Mr. Clark was taken over she knew it would be alright to send me to Eastside. A lot of what I learned from him I carry with me today. Will love him forever. RIP Joe Louis Clark.
It's wonderful to hear from his students. This movie might be embellished by Hollywood a bit but if the real life Joe Clark was half as inspiring as Morgan Freeman portrayed he was a genuine asset to your community and more educators in America should emulate him and embrace his standards. Thank you!
@@jaxonwolf8423 as far as I know this project fell through. It was going to be set in Ohio with a female principal and produced by John Legend and Jay-Z.
@@deandreray3500 Sadly that's the truth. Too many butthurt criminal students and parents complaining about "Human rights" and shit. You can't even correct a student on their spelling essay without being called a racist now.
Mine too, I watched it for the first time about 2 months ago, and was So impressed! And I watched again 8-9-2020 . I love this movie! It's so inspiring, and I think that it should be a requirement in elementary school, to get and keep students and teachers on the right path.😊
Morgan Freeman is his own Joe Clark....him and Joe Clark are a whole lot alike in behavior, that was why they probably picked him to act that role..R.I.P to the real Joe Clark
@@feferosette He has way more history than most people think. He was one of the original cast members of The Electric Company before he played Joe Clark on "Lean On Me".
I was a high school student when these events took place. I did not live in NJ, but 30 minutes away in NY & remember hearing some of the controversial student expulsions on the news while getting ready for school in the morning. A few years later when I saw the movie, I loved it. Even decades later, if I see it on, I must watch it. Gets me in the feels every time.
This was at the time in his career, when Morgan Freeman was becoming known for more than just Easy Reader (though hes probably still well known for that, just as Harrison Ford is still well known as Han Solo, Indiana Jones, Sean Connery was always well known as 007, and Klinton Spillsbury...uh......lets leave it at that!)
I never seen these interviews but my favorite movie ever from morganm. I'd say easily top 3 best African American lead actor roles on film ever. I feel I am biased id say #1 but as maybe I haven't exposed my self to enough make that call. But I will say it's been movie involving a school ever. That much I will not take debates on....freedom writers lol what a joke compared to this movie. I mean the acting in this film is breath taking and feels real. Plus it's powerful 🙌 and makes you feel all different types of emotions while watching. It's impossible to walk away not feeling like you had life lessons. I feel all teenagers entering high school should see the movie fully it could make for a better understanding of the importance of HS and maturity they need.
I'm Native American and Italian. I've been legitimately told I was trash for being me, something I didn't choose. No child chooses their race. Joe said "I don't have to do anything but be black and die! " I latched onto that. I have a choice in my life to embrace who I am as human being. I realized and I can give up or I can fight. The lord will guide me. I don't have to do anything I don't choose to. All I have to do is be brown and die. The rest is me I can lie in gutter. I can work 2 jobs and never see my kids. I can buy cheetos or I can buy apples. The lord blessed me with free choice. So when people tell me "I hafta do something!" They ain't my friend. Cause all I gotta do is be brown and die. Everything else is yours choice 😌.
That line was actually a saying the kids used when people told us what we have to do. We would sass back with "I don't HAVE to do nuthin' but stay black and die" of course meaning we could do whatever wanted. Some kids even said it to Mr. Clark, with very severe consequences ....lol. We all thought it was cool that they used it in the movie.
I felt like this movie did Morgan Freeman justice. His only Warner Bros. movie. It was beastin'. He was a black hero. "Driving Miss Daisy" was British so it really didn't count.

They are doing a remake
How accurate was the movie?

Nobody can or will never portrayed Joe Clark better than Morgan Freeman
We need more people like Joe Clark today..
You can’t you get fired

One of my all-time favorite movies. Morgan Freeman and Robert Guillaume are fantastic!

The two scenes between them in the playground and in the courtroom were awesome. Watch it again
Thing about it, Robert Guillaume looked more like Joe Clark, than Freeman did.
Mine too
Joe Clark is a national hero as far as I’m concerned. As well as Morgan Freeman. Inspiring and Great men to emulate, look up to, learn from, respect.
What a great man and amazing actor, I really hope to meet him someday in person 😎👍✌

I have watched this movie over 300 times

Will be a very sad day when Mr. Freeman passes.

Me too! I saw it at the movies in 1989. 🙂
Interviewer should know to address a stellar actor that is a Guest - granting you this interview as MR. FREEMAN! As an Educator you should know that.
Wow I’m the first to view this lol
much appreciated!
Morgan freeman is a veteran just like Joe clark was that's how Morgan freeman was able to portray joe clark in the movie

Necesito esta película LEAN ON ME , donde puedo comprarla o encontrarla
Yo lo compré el disco de Amazon.com. ¡Una película favorita!
I'd love to see Morgan Freeman and Mahershala Ali worked together
Where can we find this entire interview?
Mr Clark was the real deal
Yes he was.
Denzel Washington also played Joe Clark in a tv movie (though hes not named that in the film)
One word to describe him "Esoteric."

Morgan Freeman don't sound a damn thing like when he was portraying Joe Clark?
AJ Muzik he isn’t supposed to it’s acting
He's not supposed to sound like Joe Clark lol.
They should have given Clark a longer tenure. A year was not enough.
He was actually there for 6 years
He Look Different With the Mustache
2020 was he even want to invent a song lean on me friend song

At first he threw out 300 but also he threw out 65 more
