Excellent start of what should be an at least annual documentary series. Rowers are not keen on sharing feelings and definitely not on camera. Merijn and team, you did an awesome job with these portraits of vulnerability and success. I was particularly touched by the vulnerability and low self-confidence that both crews showed before the races and how finally one crew pulled themselves together (and the other didn't). But even then - when you asked the winners "So what is the plan going forward?" they had no clue. "We don't know about any further support, we don't know if the European Championships will even happen [due to lockdown]". Your portrait of the losing crew was even stronger, particularly how the one comforted the other (... and I am trying to avoid writing a spoiler!). Again congrats for a job well done to Merijn and the team. Looking forward to the next instalment!
Thank you Mark. I was very lucky to be able to capture the openness of the crews. They did not hold back. Who knows: I would love to find a way to do a sequel!
Well done! As a former lightweight, in university and after while pursuing these kinds of dreams, I really enjoyed the film. Still rowing, age 54, not as fit or fast as before but enjoying it anyway.
Jammer.
