@@donjohn2695 If you genuinely think this qualifies as dreadful I envy you because you havent veen exposed to many bad performances 🤣 I've been a touring musician for 2 decades and ive seen people sing the lyrics for the wrong song, bands out of time with the drummer, bass drums falling over, singers choking, i even once played with a band whose bass player (who was wearing a kilt, btw) pissed himself and the singer slipped and broke his ankle. That band actually went on to be hugely successful in the end.
Trust me, as performances go, this is just fine.

You know how is HOMOSAPIANS like it so creamy. I have never really liked glacer cherries but don't mind in a bowl of ice gems. Crunchy nuts were always the best way to eat our nuts too!!! On a wooden spoon near the moon.

Pete got so much shit for this but it's actually the performance that got me into him. I'd always thought he was putting on an act but watching as he blundered about on stage singing a song he'd forgotten the lyrics to whilst high off his tits giving not one single fuck it was evident that punk wasn't dead and its name was Pete Doherty. That kind of legitimate lack of fucks to give combined with the talent to back it up is a very, very rare combination. Born in the wrong era - an era too sensitive, perhaps. Had he hit the scene a few decades earlier he'd be a living legend.

Punk? That was far from punk, you utter tool. That was simply heroin. If you think heroin's cool, then go for it, but it ain't punk. Sid Vicious thought heroin was punk, and it didn't pay him back very well. Pete Docherty is a plastic punk, a hipster, a heroin chic moronic empty headed idiot who can't even get his shyte together for a show that was aimed at families and kids. He has no idea of punk, music, or self-respect. If you wanna follow a loser like him, then that's up to you, but it's not punk.
He actually stated in his latest book that Elton's band changed the song's key without telling him
Watching it back it would have sounded better if Elton sang the chorus without Pete. However, it would certainly loose that raw live feel. I always thought in my memory that this performance was poor. Maybe, that’s because of how it compares to some of the other acts, but in hindsight, it’s actually not bad at all. Pete is a great front man he owns it here! ❤

I very much doubt that. Professional musicians don't just change the key without telling the singer! That's an outrageous claim! I can see perfectly well the truth of the situation. Pete had a shot of heroin just before going on. No one else on stage knew he was going to, and the rest of them tried to scramble to salvage what they could from the unfolding carnage in front of them. Pete carried on apparently oblivious to the awful shambles he was embodying. No one changed the key, that much is certain!

@@borninearly80s32 Sure I've heard of Prolopunk. But I prefer the old classic punk, they also had a more unique and powerful voice than that weak "singer". But the song is of course brilliant and legendary as the original, back in 1972.

Pete said in a interview that someone in the front row kept shouting give us your hat and it put him off. I think the performance was over criticised, maybe the people criticising were pop music fans. Pete is a true rock star.

I watched this at the time and remember a lot of people really slating it, so thought I'd check it out again. Yes, he's clearly off his face; yes, he looks like he's trying a bit too hard to look cool; no, it's not a masterpiece by any stretch of the imagination...but honestly, all things considered, I think it's really not too bad at all.

i remember when this happened lol. This was when he was at his biggest, the papers would print wild crazy stories about him almost every day. Dont know how he put up with it. Must have been extremely stesssful.

You don't have to think hard to know what had to do with Elton to sing live with him, sometimes you just got to suck it and it's nothing new to pete after all carl made him to let him in the libertines and put him down as co songwriter when really it was the bassist. Only have to look at Petes solo work to know ge can't write a song

I was there with my son. This was the absolute low point of a great day. I still cringe, it was so embarrassing, like an annoying drunk in a pub. And Marc Bolan's probably still spinning.... His memory deserved better.

He can sing, he’s a songwriter, when he sings his own songs, it’s beautiful but his voice is nothing like Marc Bolan’s, Marc Bolan had a much wider and higher range. It’s a bit like getting Tom Waits to do a Minnie Riperton cover.
