Peter Doherty covering The Verve's "The Drug's Don't Work" at the Immersed! Festival in the Trashed in Cardiff. Filmed & Edited by Year 2 Media Production students.
Pete's grey hair trips me out. I was 15 when I bought my first libertines album in 2000. I'm 37 now. Time goes so fast, looking in the mirror everyday doesn't always do it justice. Sometimes you need an outside perspective. That outside perspective to me has become music icons of my youth. At 15 the music of the strokes and the libertines, made me feel young and invincible. This was are time. Nothing could stop us. I've lost many friends and family along the way. The essence of youth slowly falls from are grasp. Seeing Pete go through, many of the samethings we all go through in life. No matter how trepidatious, life never stopped him from picking up a guitar. The thought of that, Ignites something in me. A forgotten part of myself, that was glossed over by the weight of life. Thank u pete for the inspirational life lessons I've learned from your music.
I was at this and had the pleasure of getting allowed to meet him in the flesh at his dressing room after the show. The way he sings ‘the drugs don’t work’ tears my soul out a bit with each listen. It was so powerful on the night.❤
The beauty of this song is how you can interpret it in many ways. It was written about his dads battle with cancer but its written so well so many people can relate with it
I'm all ok with him being epitome of youth etc but come on 40 something is not old yet. He has just some genetic stuff and got grey hair a little bit earlier than usual.
All i can see is a forever broken heart. Been a fan of peter's poetry since 2000. We both passed throught some shit. I'v decided to leave the past in another page. How long will these bones keep a'rockin and how long can i keep up with all of this.
I’m pretty sure the song was written by Richard telling of his father dying and the drugs where the type being given to try and prolong his life !! But not surprised Pete and his boys take it as the recreational type as he would take any offered!!😂 never the less it sounds heart felt
I've just googled an old interview where Ashcroft says"I've got a new song called the drug's don't work.thats how I'm feeling at the moment. They make me feel worse but I still take them. Out of boredom and frustration you turn to something else to escape"
The fact that he is completely out of tune and time is what it is. But I can't tell if he is mocking the song or just has the worst judgment or understanding of his own capabilities. Who thought this was a good idea?? Good thing Ashcroft is still alive or else he'd be rolling over in his grave.
When music means more to you then a nice singing voice and a brilliant guitar player......you’ll understand this, The mans tearing a piece of his soul out with this,
I identify this moment as when Peter finally realised that something had to change, that he was also knowledgeable about the world of pain which was ahead in order for him to get healthy. He appears so childlike, innocent, naive ,yet wise to the world. Fighting the imminent tears, he sang his way through the storm. Well done Peter. Your music, your words, your very being inspires a lot of people.
@@matthewjdouglas6471 Eh I think he did!! Absolutely awful!! It's a song he wish he did write, but he didn't,so he had to cover a classic which he murdered.
@@barryhamilton7845 it wasn't great. Admittedly. That doesn't matter though. If you're a true follower of an artist you'll not notice things like that. He wasn't doing it justice. He is still a brilliant singer/ performer poet, writer. Do you like Peter's music or do you think hes rubbish?
This song/drug in question is chemotherapy. When you realise that, the lyrics make more sense. Ashcroft wrote it about his dad who was dying from cancer.
This is sad. Singing about drugs not working whilst obviously tripping on something. Very sad what has happened to Pete Doherty and how drugs have ruined his life. At the age of 40 he looks like he's close to death. Thankfully Richard Ashcroft the originator of this song seems to have fared better.

cool story bro
Pete Doherty has got me thru some hard times. What a beautiful version of the drugs work.

He tried to drown himself in drugs, but his soul kept him buoyant

Oh good one. You must be a poet!
This guy is the epitome of youth that even with his white hair, you would still think he is 25, not 41 years old.
I think you’re on the same gear as Pete 💉🌱.
In what world does he look 25? He looks like a cracked out 40 year old

It makes me sad what noticeable addiction looks like even the voice

One of the must underrated songwriters ever singing a song by one of the most underrated songwriters ever
Hardly underated, both Smacky Pete and Dickie Ashcroft were darlings of the music press at one point in their careers.
