Huckleberry Railroad Steam Trains

- Located in Genesee Township, just outside Flint, Michigan, the Huckleberry Railroad operates steam tourist trains along a small section of restored railroad right of way that was once part of the Pere Marquette Railroad. The railroad and neighboring Crossroads Village are both operated by the Genesee County Parks Department. Two steam locomotives call the railroad home. Alaska Railroad number 152 was built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in June of 1920 as a 4-6-0 wheel arrangement and Denver and Rio Grande Western 464 was built in 1903 by the Baldwin Locomotive works as a K-27 type 2-8-2 locomotive. In January of 2019, a special photography session was held at the railroad by Lerro Productions to capture images of both locomotives pulling trains of passenger cars over the railroad. 464 was scheduled to be pulled from service for planned boiler work that year, so this was to be the last opportunity to see both locomotives steamed up together for quite some time. While there was surprisingly no snow on the ground, the sun was out and the temperatures were plenty cold enough to produce some fantastic steam clouds. We’ll watch the 152 and the 464 running solo before being used together on a special double headed train in the fading light.

These trains have to be one of my favorites the railroads are so alike
Fun Fact: Huckleberrys are the state fruit of Idaho, although few are actually grown there

Man it has been 6 years since I've been there. I miss it
It's a neat place!
i just love the 464 it is an amazing engine with a great history one fact about it at crossroads is it is so heavy that it has actually bent the rails if you have ever been to crossroads you know the section of track in question
This is my home state’s staple aside from the Great Lakes everyone who’s ever been a kid and lived in genesee county has spent at least most of their childhood at this place primarily for the trains which are the main attraction obviously you got these steamers decorated for Halloween and Christmas and you got the diesel one which is the primary train that’s run as the steam engines only run on Saturday and Sunday between Labor Day weekend and Memorial Day weekend
Looks fun, I’m fascinated by those steam engines
It really is! Definitely worth the trip!
@@CoasterFan2105 looks like it is! Maybe I’ll look into going.
I like any Rio Grande engines
Used to go there all the time for day out with Thomas and Halloween trick or treating only living about 35 miles out from there, i miss it! I want to go back sometime and check out the Christmas lights.
Hey I see Huckleberry 464 over there. Yeah that locomotive was used for the holiday express train years ago
Ohhhh I was just thinking about this place today!
Another awesome video, mike. The trains look great in the fall, I could only imagine what they look like running in spring too.
Thanks so much! I bet it looks great in the fall.
Nice steam trains.
Nice! It's on my bucket list.
There's quite a lot to do at Crossroads Village. Although it used to be a lot better. There's an operational blacksmith shop, an old mill, olde tyme candy shop, general store, doctors office, etc and of course the old train station.
If you call ahead, you might get a tour of the boilermakers building where all the work on the steam engines is done.
I've heard there are sometimes apprenticeships available also.
Nice steam action
Thanks!
Rio Grande in Michigan. Probably never would have known if not for this video. Nice shots of the railroad.
The trestle in several shots and at 15:57 is the caps and stringers from what was called the "ZOO TRESTLE" when I was there between 1979 and 1983. It was a ballasted deck trestle when I was there. Thankfully they did not include the caboose on any of those trains. I did not notice Car No. 8 in the group but it is a Kimball Car Co. car from about 1877 or so from the Northwestern Pacific and the OR&N out of Reno, Nevada before that line was standard-gauged. Car No. 40 was originally a standard gauge car; there are two sets of bolsters under it. Car No. 260 was built new by the Burnham shops for the Rio Grande Southern with used trucks and the only new car they ever had. Cars 306 & 320 were from the Antonito to Santa Fe line. Car No. 316 was added after I left. Car No. 100 was a business car from the Zacataos RR in Mexico.
464's Sister 463 now runs on the Cumbres and Toltec that Papa and I visited in 2010 and 2014!
We love that place...we live near it .
Cool
Thanks!

Yknow, once the border reopens, you should head to British Columbia to film trains there. We’ve got great railroads and beautiful views.
That's on the top of the list. I was planning on doing a trip all across Canada last year. Hopefully soon.
I love both 152 and 464. Last time I saw them both was in the 2019 photo charter. I hope the huckleberry railroad will be operating this but we just have to see. Also thanks for uploading this. Also another railroad in Michigan the little river railroad. One day you should go there.
Nice video! Hopefully I'll be able to make the trek to a railroad with regularly-used steam locomotives soon.
You should if you get the chance!
I KNEW THOSE WHISTLES SOUNDED FAMILIAR!!! I heard this in a video game!! Its neat that it's called the Huckleberry, is it actually that slow you can get Huckleberries from trees? I can only dream that 😅😂
Haha, it's a little faster than that! Thanks for watching!
The 463 and 464 are 1454 miles apart. Isn’t that shocking? Who knew they would be so far apart.
Nice Video Mike
Thank you!
Great Catches
Amazing video Mike I love those steam locomotives!
Thanks! I do too!
Has anyone know the new Acela, The Avelia liberty, you should do a video of the new Avelia liberty.
I will eventually!
Excellent Mike. Loved your comments. On video you've caught the greatness of this train. I owe my greater interest in rail, especially steam 🚂 to a recently deceased friend, Gene. I needed to credit him. He loved steam engines the absolute best. This train is such a majestic beauty, especially with two locomotives with billowing steam! They're like art!
yea great catches and video of this railroads photo trains runs with these 2 steamers
Fantastic shots mike!
Thank you!
Nice video. (;
Thank you!
Awesome video!!! I want to check out that place. The one place you need to check out is the St Louis Iron Mountain & Southern Railroad in Jackson, MO!!!
Nice!
Thanks!
Wow good video. Steam trains are really cool to watch.👍
Nice Video Mike! :) 👍❤️
Thanks. Rhett!
This is an excellent video, really great, thanks!
Very good shots ♥️
I've been there for a day out with Thomas and this place is lit
Thanks for the video.
AWESOME!
Superb motion photography: the vestiges of a bygone era. Some say that parts of it may return as resource depletion gets worse.
Awsome job mike and can I ask you a question wheres the bell on the Amtrak F40PH locomotive?
Thanks! It's typically behind the front plow.
@@CoasterFan2105 no prob and okay thanks
Hey Mike, what’s that steam locomotive on display at 2:45?
@@originaljokegaming2948 Thanks! I saw it when he uploaded the preview for Steam Trains Galore 8.
they are really sending that 464
Mr. Mike Armstrong, Thank You So Much Again, Because You Know How Much I Really, Really Super Love Steam Trains/Steam Locomotives so Much! You Rock! Happy Spring Seasoning! God Bless You! You Put The "A" in Awesome! Go, Mike Armstrong, Go! I Love Your New UA-cam Video of Yours, This is the Best! :-D
Hey mike Armstrong
Hello
Cool!
It's neat how 152 still has it's snow plow.
It did not have the plow while I was there between 1979 and 1983. The pilot was of wood in the classical shape and painted red with red wheels.
That’s interesting.
Great video. Thanks for sharing. I love stem engines the best. You do fantastic work.
Why don't steam locomotives have Dianamic Breakes, a K-class horn compared to diesel locomotives?
Nice
Well believe it or not the 464 actually had a class name called a muthead. Great video as always keep up the great work
They started working
I want to ride a Steam Train so badly
What’s with #4 sitting along the rails 5:42
How long is the entire ride?
About 4 miles. While I was there it was 6 miles.
Hey CoasterFan2105 do you know if EX Amtrak F40PHR unit 344 had ditch lights???
I LOVE DRGW 464
Hi Mike Armstrong
Hey!
How long was the Santa Fe steam train for I meant by how many years was the train up
Why are there lots of train in CO?
Witch huckleberry locomotive is the best?
Rio grande K-27 number 464
or Alaska railroad 4-6-0 Ten Wheeler number 152?
Cool video, Mike! It's always nice seeing steamers on scenic railroads. Thanks so much for all the great train videos! 🚂
Great video. Are they running the trains with covid?

Booyakasha!! :-D
Fantastic! What’s the other steam locomotive in the background at 5:40?
@Adolf Hitler Needs a new boiler, frame, rods... etc
🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃
That would be ex. Potosi & Rio Verde #4, a 1904 Baldwin 2-8-0. She is in need of extensive repairs and is on display for the time being
Is this engine coal or oil? Thanks 🙏. Great video too.
They are both coal burners
Very god mr 😁😁🙏🙏🙏🙏
Choo Choo!

👍👍👍🚂
I’m going there to jump off it get berries it will be so funny.
TRAINS
Hi
Hey!
464 has some weird drive wheels.
The drive wheels are typical of a steam loco but what you are seeing is the counterweights on the ends of the axles.
It's my birthday today
Happy Birthday!
