Very interesting, some of my Silver Sneakers students cannot get their foot up on the chair. So, I allow those students to do this stretch with their feet on the ground. I did not realize it’s harder on the ground. 😂😂😂😅😜🫢🫣🙃

Great stretch! I was always told not to have the knee go past the toes & notice this is happening with your stretch. Is this an exception to that rule?
“No knees past the toes” is an outdated and incorrect way of thinking. Don’t worry about it at all. The overwhelming majority of modern research has showed that allowing your knees to go past the toes is not only perfectly safe, but also allows you to stretch and strengthen your leg and hip muscles throughout their full range of motion, thereby protecting and benefitting the longevity of your knee joints. Don’t sweat it, and have at it. A great resource here on UA-cam is “knees over toes guy” Ben Patrick; he’s into all the research and practical applications of that research. Look him up!
Is it tight hip flexors that can cause a painless clunking sound???
I might be missing a finer point of your form, but in the past I've aggravated my sciatic nerve doing these. What went wrong or what am I potentially doing wrong?

I feel pain in my right hip flexor when I'm descending while I'm doing squats and no matter how much I warm up/stretch it does not help. Got any exercises or stretches that can help?
