Thanks Man...appreciate the encouragement! BTW. I have one on the back burner that is very similar to one you just put out...so I'm going to have to reference your video. I think I have a good audio joke planned for when I reference yours. We'll see how it comes out.
Chris, you're killing me with these awesome videos! Loving the voice overs, killer motion graphics/drawings and really dig these smaller projects. Much more approachable for me!
Always find myself coming back here for inspiration in design and ideas! Take away all the fancy tools and what you get to see is a true artisan with the sensibilities of a poet and a talent in woodworking that's unparalleled. Thanks for this! Like listening to Anthony Bourdain talk about local cultures in ways that really have an impact on the soul.
I gotta say, I really love the sort of modern woodworking you got going. not just in your ideas or in you incredibly constructed videos, but simply your persona, I guess. I've recently gotten into simple woodworking ( rings ) and I'm loving it, but to be honest I haven't found many young men near my age to fully sink into the hobby. You're an inspiring man and I'm loving all your videos and content. God Bless!
Product Designer from Scotland here, love your videos man. Big fan of the tone you set throughout and the overall style you approach your work with. Keep it up!
I design various giftware ranges and manufacturing tooling for a drinks company in London. I always loved and very much miss being in the workshop in university, your garage is the dream for further down the line when I'm out of London. Where in the US are you based? Can I ask, is it sketchup you use predominantly for your CAD?
Hey Duncan. Nice. That's good that you're in an indisustry where you can use your skills/creativity, and I'm sure you'll have opportunities to get back to the things you want to design down the road. I'm in Southern California, and sketchup is the only CAD I use. Its either that or pencil and paper.
This is a really cool design. And no need to worry about the quality of the music. It is way better than most woodworking videos here on youtube. I must say though, I was a little surprised when you cut the tapers at the beginning. My instinct would be to build it all and glue it up. then cut the tapers. That way you don't have to worry about how to hold the pieces while you are working, and the tapers are guaranteed to lign up.
Thanks Neistridlar. I thought about doing that...Too big for the table saw, but you could do it on the band saw. I was worried that I would get some kind of crazy tear out or something though. If I had to make multiple. I'd definitely try it out and be willing to sacrifice one...b/c that would save a ton of time and make it simple.
Have to say, I have always been a fan of Woodworking videos, and living vicariously through them. I've watched several different channels, and was recommended to you Via UA-cam. After watching a couple of your videos, I must say, I have fallen in love with your style. The voice over with the soft acoustic music in the back makes it for easy listening, as well as easier to retain the information I learn. When my paycheck hits, you will be receiving another Patreon Subsciber or whatever the name is. You have amazed me. Continue the good work. Would love to have a chat with you in the future. Cheers.
Hey Alex...That is awesome - thanks! I'm always happy to help in any way I can, so feel free to get in touch via email, here, etc... I get a good number of messages so i can't always respond right away, but I do try to get back to people.
I actually love when youtubers remind me to like because seems to make a difference to them and I really often just forget... love your videos, man! hope this small gesture really does help back a little... cheers!
Thanks Nelson. Yeah. That's how I always was as a viewer. I liked the stuff I was watching, but never thought about clicking the thumbs up. If everyone does it, it really helps in terms of the way the video is recommended, and growing the audience, etc... so I really appreciate it.
I've been at a standstill on a coat rack because the hooks have been looking clunky. All the angles you cut on this piece made me realize what I need to do. Cheers!
I really dig that design. I've been wanting to build a headphone stand for a while now, but could never find a design I liked. This, though, I really dig it.
What a great project! I've been working on my version of a headphone rest as well (almost there, though). Hey, the top dado cut IS actually necessary. It's an indicator for an intended object to be placed on.
It's always a treat to see that 1 by your name in the subs list! I love the crazy compound angles in this one. It really makes a simple piece into something profoundly interesting. Nice tunes btw!
Recently found your channel and have watched most of your videos. Really enjoy the videos; you have an unique and enjoyable style. It's nice to know that there is another woodworker in SoCal besides myself.
i'm liking these videos and learning more from them than i am at college right now. . . this is unbelievable, and i'll take that tip on gluing into consideration
To cut the taper, I'd mark a line, cut it close to the line with a bandsaw, and then use a router table and straight edge to trim it flat and straight. (all done after the miter cuts)
Just subbed, Chris. Both your videos and your woodworking are incredible quality. Keep bringing the passion - it is evident in every second of your work.
Been watching your vids for awhile now. Love the woodwork, and your dry sense of humor. And though I understand the patreon plugs/etc, when they fall mid-video it interrupts the whole vibe that makes your vids unique. I don't read your vids as how-tos, but visually interesting inspirational videos forwoodwork and related philosophies. Keep up the good work, but think about why you make you tube content. If the answer is the same as when you made your first video then carry on. But if you're unsure, then go back to the start. I'll be watching regardless.
Hey Maffew. Thanks. I get what you're saying. I try to keep them short and fairly natural...from my experimentation, and reading that I've done, the ads just work so much better in the middle. I'm thinking of ways where I can make them more entertaining. Just gotta get creative with it somehow.
At some point I'm sure I will. I've just had a lot of call lately for larger things. I tend to kind of build what is needed, or that I get interested in.
Pro Tip: mount the camera on the assembly table when drilling pocket holes so your audience gets a visual representation of Playstation DualShock (this is in another woodworker's video, not my own) 😁
I really like your videos! As someone who had subscribed to your videos it is a bit annoying being ask to subscribe to your channel in the middle of every video. Just keep the formalities to the end. Keep up the good work
Hey Kieran. I wish I could. I've looked at a bunch of analytics, and talked with UA-cam reps...and making the announcements in the middle makes a huge difference. Sorry. But on the bright side...it's free! :)
This is the best headphones wood stand for me. My buddy actually helped me with this, so I am now left with gluing, sanding and maybe oiling. If anyone needs a SketchUp drawing of this, let me know. Hopefully it is ok with author to share my 3d model of his concept 😉

How about making a film about your work process for designing your projects? Most people probably have their own work processes, well, I know I have my own process, and there would probably be some of us who would be interested in comparing our own work process with yours.
Hey Thor. I've been wanting to branch out on the types of videos I put up. This is a good idea...I'll try to do something like this during the next couple months.
Hi Chris, again top quality and precision. I wish I could see Ur approach to building a cajon or bass cajon perhaps, or lap cayon, or conga cajon - tons of possibilities to sneak in creativity.
This is alot better honestly if u don't like the wood design u can just paint it to whatever color u like and put a sticker if u want. But to me a black paint is already good enough for me and not a waste of money.
The content you make is amazing and very relaxing but IMO it would be nice if you could throw something a little more upbeat on like some nice hip hop instrumentals, you know just for some variety . Thanks for the great content🤘🏽🔥🙏🏽

Thanks! Glad you're digging the videos and projects. If you feel like take a crack at it...go for it. Just send me a pic :)

Excellent craftsmanship! I like the idea of the painters tape to keep the joints tight while the glue dried.
This is really a beautiful piece of art. You present it so well it makes it impossible to not love it. The design is just... wow.
Thanks Jordan. Really appreciate that
The concealed gluing sequence was exceptionally well done

Thanks! Appreciate it!
From this simple tree you Chris did something beautiful, I'm flattered
Thanks :)
FINALLY! A good looking easy to build headphone stand! Thanks for this!!
You're welcome :)
Please don't change a thing Chris, and the music was just fine. Always a pleasure to watch your videos.

Thanks Robinson. Send me a pic when you're finished. And be careful :)

Thanks!

One. Two. One, two, three... Sound of Silence -- a literal interpretation of the Simon & Garfunkel classic by Foureyes!
you could make an entire video about how to square up a board, make it 45 minutes long with no talking and i would still be mesmerized by the video!
Challenge accepted :)
i'm liking these videos and learning more from them than i am at college right now. . . this is unbelievable, and i'll take that tip on gluing into consideration
Thanks Baracuda...that either says a lot about me, or very little about your college :)
Awesome build. I love it. I am also stealing it. GO CUBS!
Ah yes, I'm a big fan of 'arm/elbow/hand-cam' for a truly professional presentation. ;)
Beautiful stuff, man - always looking forward to more.
I'm working on more "shoe shots". Preferably the type where I left the camera on accidentally, and pointing on the ground.
To cut the taper, I'd mark a line, cut it close to the line with a bandsaw, and then use a router table and straight edge to trim it flat and straight. (all done after the miter cuts)
That would work. Lots of ways to skin a cat. :)
Best pro tip I have ever heard.

It would be nice to see text measurements either on the video or in the link section.
great design!
This one served as some awesome inspiration.
Always love your designs.
Thanks Adam...appreciate it :)

Thanks Otto....that's quite the statement, but I appreciate it for sure :)
i think you should build a phone charging dock!

IMHO, without doubt the best story telling, film making, editing maker on UA-cam .............. PERIOD !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
...end of conversation! JK Thanks Simon...really appreciate that.
Do you plan on making more small projects? Things that you may put around the house to compliment other wood stuff? Such as your coaster holder.
At some point I'm sure I will. I've just had a lot of call lately for larger things. I tend to kind of build what is needed, or that I get interested in.

made this out of cardboard. thank you for ur beautiful design.
How have I only just found this channel........ Earned another sub. :) great video and awesome build 👍
Appreciate it Jay :)
First class production. Well done my friend.
:)
Made three of these for Christmas presents. Thanks for the inspiration!
Hi Eric, do you have any plans available for this? I am planning to make few gifts
Your videos are art.
Thanks Lucas :)
You are great man!
Really nice lines
Nice video! Lots of crazy angles, well done!
Hey Paul...thanks man. It's true. of the 18 faces on this project, I think 14 of them have a weird angle cut in.

Great job dude. I think I"m gonna copy that idea for that stand it's so clean.
This video is oddly therapeutic
nice work, very inspirational.
I've been watching your videos from the very start, and i love almost everything about them; the video quality, the build style, how you show the process, the lighting, the music etc etc however i have one constructive criticism about the voice overs. They just seem kind of arbitrary, almost childlike, like you've forcing yourself to be philosophical, for example in this video when you say 'why i say anything can be art is because at some level it can be, at least i think so' - this isn't really demonstrating a point. This isn't meant to be an insult or anything like that, just something i think would make videos that are already really great, better :)
I've just watched it back again i think its mainly because it feels forced and just not very honest
I disagree, I enjoy his philosophical musings.
I also disagree. I appreciate the philosophical voiceovers.
I'm not sure if I agree or disagree. But I am sure that I respect respectful criticism, and respectful disagreements. There's no doubt that we already have too much vitriol on the internet. PS - I'm a big fan of this channel.
IMHO the narration is the 'finish' to the videos made. In the same way that the headphone stand looked fantastic before you applied your clear coat, but once you did - niiiiiiice. The narrative makes it personal, makes it accessible and well, makes it.
Yes! Video time!
Hope you dug it :)
May you share with me the two cutting angles used in this build? I didn't follow what you said within the video. Thank you!
Wow! I would buy this 👍🏻
