Blue berries lose a lot of their flavour while baking. It’s kind of like drinking a glass of orange that has a glass of water mixed in it.

Yeah, if someone made a cake with that amount of blueberries for Gordon, he would shout at them. Just look at the cake at 2:10, there's only one teeny tiny blueberry in the crust, so they'd have to eat the whole cake just to taste it...

I love how much kinder they are on Master Chef Canada. Not that I have anything against Gordon and Joe’s critiques as I find it important, but sometimes it seems a little amped up for the “drama” a lot of American TV seems to have. Likewise, the drama between contestants is very in my opinion, unnecessary. Here if there’s a cake that doesn’t look pretty or didn’t have the same layers, they said things like “it could still be a swan.” I love it♡

Cooking shouldn't all be about the taste, but also the presentation. Some of the didn't even look good yet they still considered it as "good" of gordon was their he would have said " your presentation is so..so..(Masterchef logo) " " "..."... ugly" Hahahahaha
Yeah, but they only had an hour. The main focus was on getting the flavors and the taste right, not so much presentation. If a group had the luxury to worry about how the cake looked...well, they would probably be professional chefs already.
It's also because they had 60 mins to pick ingredients and cook everything then cool for frosting

As a pastry chef, none of the cake looked presentable.
It's because they all sacrificed presentation for time. Making a cake with 4 different batters and 3 different frostings with flavors you don't know in 60 minutes is hard enough as it is.

You can look up interviews of people who used to be on the show. It is scripted, especially the US version, but the challenges are real. These are people who claim to cook on a regular basis. The stress and pressure of the competition and time can do a number on the performance of alot of people.

Very difficult. Takes about 10 minutes to make a cake batter and preheat the oven, takes another 30 minutes to bake, so only 20 minutes to cool and decorate, which is really not enough.

I personally think the US version is better because I think they work well and harder under the pressure and expectation placed upon them, so that they won’t make the same mistake. It’s a competition and should be treated as such. The Canadian version is quite nice but the US version takes the cake.
