  • GET THE SCIENCE ON ARTIFICIAL PLAYING SURFACES
A conversation on kids’ health, watersheds, and alternatives
On October 1st, Move Past Plastic hosted a virtual town hall discussion on "The Impacts of Artificial Playing Surfaces on Our Watersheds and Our Kids’ Health-What are the Alternatives."
This will allow athletic and parks and recreation directors, coaches, parents, watershed organizations, school superintendents, municipal officials, and community organizations to ask questions and discuss the existing science on artificial playing surfaces and their environmental and human health impacts.
Artificial playing surfaces are a significant source of plastic pollution in our rivers and oceans. They contain toxic chemicals that harm our youth, rivers, wetlands, and wildlife. They are not sustainable products and contribute to greenhouse gas emissions, stormwater issues, and heat island effects.
This program will raise awareness of the growing plastic pollution problem and bring a dialogue that informs our communities and municipal leaders to better care for our watersheds and at-risk populations.
