I’m currently creating a book that I hope gets turned into an anime series, and I really hope it ends up on Ash’s list for most romantic anime series in the future.
Man, there are so many anime films for honorable mentions: Grave of the Fireflies, Wolf Children, Weathering with You, Paprika, Tokyo Godfathers, The Boy and the Beast.
Right?!? I came to this list, expecting it to be in the top three with Spirited Away and Akira. The fact that it wasn’t mentioned AT ALL is an absolute travesty.
Fun Fact: In the movie "Spirited Away" Chiito's parents were driving an Audi A4 and the movies creators found a real Audi A4 and drove it around the same terrain you see at the start of the movie and recorded down the sounds the car made during the drive and put it in the movie at the start. So if your hearing the car sounds at the start of the movie you can be confident that their authentic to the vehicle seen.
Especially Näusicaa of the Valley of the Wind, Pokémon, The Cat Returns, My Neighbour Totoro, Gundam, Transformers, Macross, Dragonball, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Napping Princess, Fireworks and many others.
I actually just posted about Ninja Scroll and VHD Bloodlust. Not to mention Galaxy Express 999. And if they're going to include movies that are off-shoots of a TV series, a Lupin III movie and Macross DYRL should have been included.
What intrigues me about Princess Mononoke is not just either the story of the environmental consciousness, the artstyle, or the mutual relationship between San and Ashitaka. But the film’s beautiful score was composed by Joe Hisaishi.
Princess mononoke is my first and still my favorite ghibli film. It will always have a special place in my heart ❤ i love San and Ashitaka's relationships
While it sucks that Gohan wasn’t included to face the Legendary Super Saiyan, Dragon Ball Super: Broly is a hella a fun DB movie. And Vic Mignogna‘s last performance for this iconic character.
Fun Fact: Nintendo has taken inspiration from Studio Ghibli films (Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, Howl’s Moving Castle, and Castle in the Sky) to make The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
I never get tired of all the Pokémon movies. I know it's obvious people would choose The First Movie to be on the list or a honorable mention (if this video had one), but I would be fine if it was either The First Movie, Rise of Darkrai, Arceus and the Jewel of Life, Diancie and the Caccoon of Destruction, or The Power of Us
@@grayshigami6797 And yet, I said “Most”, not all, considering that Disney had some of their Worst Work in the 60’s, 70’s, and past the Renaissance Era. My Neighbor Totoro at #18? Really That's like doing a Top 20 of American animated movies and having Disney's Snow White toward the bottom. Not only is the artwork top notch, but the story manages to be engaging without a villain or antagonist. Also, no one who put together this list is a parent. When I took my then 4-year old daughter to the US premiere of "Ponyo", when the Studio Ghibli logo came up, another kid nearby exclaimed "Totoro!". Even at that age, they knew how memorable the movie was. Certainly better than Dragonball ahead of it.
I decided to make my own list since I have too many favorites: 1) Maquia: When The Promised Flower Blooms 2) Princess Mononoke 3) Made In Abyss: Dawn Of The Deep Soul 4) Akira 5) My Neighbor Totoro 6) Sword Of The Stranger 7) The Boy And The Beast 8) Nausicaa Of The Valley Of The Wind 9) A Silent Voice 10) Kiki's Delivery Service 11) Josee, The Tiger And The Fish 12) Castle In The Sky 13) Spirited Away 14) The Garden Of Sinners Chapter 5 15) Jujutsu Kaisen 0 16) The Last: Naruto The Movie 17) Konosuba: Legend Of Crimson 18) Pokemon The First Movie 19) The Boy And The Heron 20) One Piece Film: Gold (Maquia, Sword Of The Stranger and Josee, in particular, are super underrated and deserve more attention)
Friend, I respect you for taking the time out to list all of your favorite Anime movies. You chose some good one. "Princess Mononoke" is my number one favorite. But what is "Maquia: When The Promised Flower Blooms" all about?
@@brokenbridge6316 This may not be the best description of this movie, so please forgive me, but all I can say is that it's about an immortal being struggling to look after a human child, who ages much much faster than her, as if he were her own son. The fantasy world it takes place in is absolutely gorgeous and, while this is more of a drama than an action, it does have its fair share of suspenseful action sequences. I haven't seen it as much as other anime movies, but I ranked it so high because of the lasting impression it gave me. I definitely recommend Maquia for fans of Frieren and Wolf Children, or fantasy fans who are looking for a tearjerker of a movie.

Absolute madness to leave Grave of the Fireflies out of this list. In my opinion, it's not only the best anime movie ever made, but the best movie of all time. Absolute masterpiece.
Interesting fact: The reason Taki wrote "I love you" instead of his actual name in Mitsuha's hand is because love messages are protected by the God of Love, therefore they wouldn't be erased like other messages (e.g. the notes in the phones). Taki knew about it so, instead of writting his name so that she wouldn't forget after the swap, he gave her a love message to prove his existence so that they would meet again in the future.
Miyazaki was very upset by the first western release of Nausicaa (Warriors of the Wind) as they changed so much that afterwards he made sure he would retain full creative control of his works... I saw Perfect Blue described as what you'd get if Hitchcock made an anime... near the end you almost couldn't tell what was real, what was insanity, and what was acting.
I will always remember watching Mugen Train because a friend and I stayed up all night to watch it and I was leaving by plane the next morning. I finished packing my bags then we watched it together. Right at the end after all the action and breathtaking animation came to a climax, the sun started to rise as Rengoku faded away slowly as he was dying and at that very moment, a small bright beam shone into my room and as died with a smile on his face, like magic the real sunrise behind us lit up my room as if we were there with Tanjiro...
Spirited Away would come out on Cartoon Network very rare and it was so awesome definitely worth the watch wish kids now a days can find a way to watch this since most have short attention span this is super Nostalgic also has a great message 10/10
one of my absolute favourites ia Kiki's Delivery Service, Studio Ghibli's art style is timeless (also Demon Slayer Mugen Train was absolutely fantastic)
Woah woah, Wolf Children deserves a ranking, not just a clip at the beginning. It's an absolutely beautiful film. I always end up sobbing by the end. More recognition!
The anime movies that I enjoyed 1. One Piece: Film Red 2. Jujutsu Kaisen 0 3. Dragon Ball Super: Broly 4. Demon Slayer: Mugen Train 5. A Silent Voice 6. Spirited Away
About movies tie-in with an anime tv series, it should included "Sailor Moon R, the movie", "Pokemon: Mew-two strikes back", "Evangelion 2.0: You can (not) advance" , "Cowboy Bepop, the movie" & "Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro" 😎
Im not fully versed in anime, but some that I've seen that i felt were neglected: -Ninja Scroll -Grave of the Fireflies -Metropolis -Paprika -Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust -The Cat Returns
Someone could make a Top 100 list and still left out some absolute gems. There are so many anime movies out there that make Hollywood look like a poor joke.
No Vampire Hunter D:Bloodlust, Ninja Scroll, Cowboy Bebop: The Movie, Golgo 13: The Professional, or The Dagger Of Kimui and Akira is number 2. Watchmojo once again drops the ball.
Born in '78, been watching anime since I was a kid. I grew up watching Voltron, Macross (later Robotech) and a show that I couldn't recall the name of but recently found out was called "Starvengers". In the early teen years (thanks to the SCI-FI channel) I discovered "Project A-Ko", "Vampire Hunter D" , "Lensman", "Lily Cat", and others. "Ninja Scroll" is still one of my absolute favorites along with 'Patlabor".
How tf did a JJK movie and a DB Super movie make this list but Ninja Scroll, Sword Of The Stranger nor Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust didn't!? What a joke!
Princess mononoke is still my all time favourite anime film. It's just genuinely brilliant. With the ghibli movies Howls moving castle is definitely one of my favourites as well. Also the dbs broly movie. Could happily rewatch that whenever and not get bored of it. That art style. Oooooooof. Just gorgeous.
My top 50 50) Liz and the Blue Bird 49) Roujin-Z 48) Neo-Tokyo 47) Rascal does not Dream of Dreaming Girl 46) The Ideon: Be Invoked 45) Anthem of the Heart 44) The Little Norse Prince 43) Kiki's Delivery Service 42) Metropolis 41) Redline 40) Kimagure Orange Road; The Movie 39) The Castle of Cagliostro 38) Her Blue Sky 37) Night on the Galactic Railroad 36) Your Name 35) Promare 34) The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya 33) The Garden of Words 32) Mirai 31) The Garden of Sinners series 30) Urusei Yatsura: Beautiful Dreamer 29) Patlabor 2 28) Gintama the Final 27) Mobile Suit Gundam 26) Ringing Bell 25) Fate/Stay Night Heavens Feel Trilogy 24) Castle in the Sky 23) Tokyo Godfathers 22) Nausicaa 21) In This Corner of the World 20) When Marnie Was There 19) Barefoot Gen 18) Windaria 17) Wings of Honneamise 16) Maquia 15) Paprika 14) The Tale of Princess Kaguya 13) Memories 12) Mind Game 11) Perfect Blue 10) Kizumonogatari Trilogy 9) Grave of the Fireflies 8) A Silent Voice 7) 5 Centimetres Per Second 6) Spirited Away 5) The End of Evangelion 4) Akira 3) Princess Mononoke 2) Wolf Children 1) Ghost in the Shell
The boy and the beast and the legend of Hei should be on this list, truly. Both of these films have incredible stories and exceptional animation. At least you got most right though.
Interesting to note that there's several movies from Studio Ghibli (no surprise) I have some from this list I recorded years ago from TCM. Especially when they did a week long tribute to Hayao Miyazaki. (They broadcasted both original Japanese and dubbed. I recorded the dubbed versions)
Although it is a very new entry, but "look back" is also a great anime movie that should not be overlooked. Every single aspect of it is hand crafted with care and did not waste any time for padding.
It truly is hard to pick my favorite Miyazaki movie … but spirited away gets better every time I see it. I could get lost in the seen where Chihiro gets in the train and goes to see the witch sister. Absolutely beautiful. It was also awesome to see Suzume on this list … I recommend it all the time!
While names like Hayao Miyazaki, Mamoru Hosoda, and Satoshi Kon come to mind about anime filmmakers, Makoto Shinkai is without a doubt reaching those ranks as well as an accomplished filmmaker in his own right. And glad two of the latter's movies made the cut on this list. Your Name and Suzume are wonderful flicks!
Caught off guard with some of these choices, in regards to "Greatest of All Time" Still like the ones that shouldn't be on here, yet curious to know the thought process behind it all lol
Here are my top anime movies you mentioned. Demon Slayer Mugen Train, Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke. Here are my other top anime movies you didn't mentioned. Sailor Moon R Promise of the Rose, Final Yamato, Space Battleship Yamato The New Voyage, Be Forever Yamato, Kiki's Delivery Service, Space Adventure Cobra, Escaflowne the movie, Rahzephon the movie, Cowboy Bebop Knocking on Heaven's Door, My Youth in Arcadia, Macross: Do You Remember Love, Blue Exorcist, and Strike Witches.
Only thing I'm going to say is Ghost in the Shell, A Silent Voice, and Howl's Moving Castle should have been ranked higher. That being said I will say that I've only seen 12 of the 20 movies, so there's that. I do love the picks though and love the Redline reference. Honorable mentions that should've been listed I think are Wolf Children (which was shown), Castle in the Sky, I Want to Eat Your Pancreas, Weathering with You, Kuroko no Basket Movie: Last Game (Especially hype if you've seen all of the anime), Belle, Grave of the Fireflies and Boy and the Heron. I of course realize some of these movies had not come out when this video was made, so there's that too. Thank you for listening to my Ted Talk of a message
The boy and the beast? EOE so low, Totoro so low.... Silent voice not even top 10... wow, what about I want to Eat your pancreas? what is this list WatchMojo?

Hi
I’m currently creating a book that I hope gets turned into an anime series, and I really hope it ends up on Ash’s list for most romantic anime series in the future.
Have ya’ll ever seen any of the Appleseed movies? They came from the same guy who wrote Ghost in the Shell.
My Hero Academia: World Heroes Mission
I'm still furious that they chose The Boss Baby to be nominated for an Oscar instead of A Silent Voice
Terrible choice. But I guess other people have opinions.
I haven’t seen A Silent Voice, but I wholeheartedly agree with ya!
I try to not think about it.
Your Name as well.
Yeah I get why you would be furious. Sounds like the movie deserves better.

Indeed - and I would put *Grave of the Fireflies* in the top 5.
Grave of the Fireflies makes me feel so sad to this day. Those two poor kids so deserved better than what they got.
My very first anime was Grave of the Fireflies. The anime opened my eyes to what animation can genuinely accomplish.
I was hoping for weathering with you but it’s just your name 2 :(
I watched Grave of the Fireflies once. Excellent anime, but too depressing for me... I haven't been able to bring myself to watch it again.

I will never get the hype behind Akira & Spirited Away
I wish you gave those movies a second chance dude
It's amazing but it's your opinion anyway it's fine
16:05 goddamn that song starts playing and I start to tear up again
Spirited Away would come out on Cartoon Network very rare and it was so awesome definitely worth the watch wish kids now a days can find a way to watch this since most have short attention span this is super Nostalgic also has a great message 10/10
Spirited away is the GOAT movies ever
one of my absolute favourites ia Kiki's Delivery Service, Studio Ghibli's art style is timeless (also Demon Slayer Mugen Train was absolutely fantastic)
Woah woah, Wolf Children deserves a ranking, not just a clip at the beginning. It's an absolutely beautiful film. I always end up sobbing by the end. More recognition!
Spirited away! I'm so happy to be able to meet the animation of my childhood memories Thanks for so meaningful and valuable video as always ❤❤❤
The fact I have almost all of the movies on this list on DVD makes me very proud
I'm glad to see Dragon Ball Super Broly on this list. The best animation I have seen in an anime movie ever!
I grew up and still watch most of these anime films today even as the adults they are so many greatest movies of all time in anime history
The anime movies that I enjoyed
1. One Piece: Film Red
2. Jujutsu Kaisen 0
3. Dragon Ball Super: Broly
4. Demon Slayer: Mugen Train
5. A Silent Voice
6. Spirited Away
Nice anime movie choices
About movies tie-in with an anime tv series, it should included "Sailor Moon R, the movie", "Pokemon: Mew-two strikes back", "Evangelion 2.0: You can (not) advance" , "Cowboy Bepop, the movie" & "Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro" 😎
Yall missed Drifting Home, a banger on par with Suzame
Im not fully versed in anime, but some that I've seen that i felt were neglected:
-Ninja Scroll
-Grave of the Fireflies
-Metropolis
-Paprika
-Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust
-The Cat Returns
mildly surprised Castle Cagliostro didn't make it.
My list
1The Secret life of Arriety
2Spirited Away
3Demon slayer: mugen train
4Princess Mononoke
5Ponyo
Favorites
Howl’s Moving Castle
Mabaroshi
Suzume
My Oni Girl
The Imaginary

Spirited Away
Castle in the sky
A Whisker Away
Digimon Reunion Tri
Someone could make a Top 100 list and still left out some absolute gems. There are so many anime movies out there that make Hollywood look like a poor joke.
No Vampire Hunter D:Bloodlust, Ninja Scroll, Cowboy Bebop: The Movie, Golgo 13: The Professional, or The Dagger Of Kimui and Akira is number 2. Watchmojo once again drops the ball.
Macross: Do You Remember Love?
Where’s Grave of the Fireflies?
Princess Mononoke is a Timeless Masterpiece.
Grave of the fireflies not being on this list is a joke
How tf did a JJK movie and a DB Super movie make this list but Ninja Scroll, Sword Of The Stranger nor Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust didn't!? What a joke!
Wolf Children and The Tale of Princess Kaguya deserves a place on this list
Princess mononoke is still my all time favourite anime film. It's just genuinely brilliant. With the ghibli movies Howls moving castle is definitely one of my favourites as well. Also the dbs broly movie. Could happily rewatch that whenever and not get bored of it. That art style. Oooooooof. Just gorgeous.
Even greats like "5 centimeters per second", "Summer Wars" and some underrated like "Bungo Stray Dogs: Dead Apple" are atleast WORTH mentioning
The Fist Slam Dunk should’ve been on the list!!!
That Broken "Gomen Nasai"
From Shouko always kills me

I'd forgotten all about Millenium actress. It's been so long since I've seen it. Might have to look it up again.
where is the "grave of the fireflies"?
The boy and the beast and the legend of Hei should be on this list, truly. Both of these films have incredible stories and exceptional animation. At least you got most right though.
Interesting to note that there's several movies from Studio Ghibli (no surprise)
I have some from this list I recorded years ago from TCM.
The First Slam Dunk is sorely missing from this list and 100% deserved to be included over a number of these titles.
My favorites are Nausicaä, Mononoke, Wolf Children and Summer Wars. And of course the Sailor Moon movies^^
I would put grave of the fireflies on the list.
Porco Rosso is extremely underrated and an amazing movie!
YEAH! Spirited away #1 anime movie!
0:27 Oh yeah! Knew this would make it.
5:05 Not gonna lie, thought this would rank higher.
9:09 WHAT?! WHY ISN'T THIS NUMBER 1?!
I'm kinda sad two of my older favorites, Endless Waltz and Samurai X: Trust and Betrayal, didn't rank :/.
Sword of Stranger is truly such a underrated anime n the fighting so clean.
