My alll time No1 IDOL , Terry Hall,,,,,,, ♥️ Even though we never met apart from being at gigs . Thanks for everything my lifelong friend and beyond . You were and still are ,,, a beautiful human being ✨😎😎 Ian 20/12/2024😎✨🚀 Although there's too many to choose from by Terry / Jerry Dammers ( demi god !😎) It HAS to be " Do nothing" bought it in '81 , the lyrics being a lifelong mantra along with " do anything you wanna do / Eddie and the hotrods" Both , WILL ,,, be played at my funeral 😎🥰
Just read the very sad news of Terry Hall’s passing on to the great gig in the sky. This was the most underaged singles of his many. I remember the stupidity of the record company releasing it in September, I was working on a building site in Guildford at the time and I remember that this was probably some “Rupert” who got a job because daddy knew someone who made this bloody silly decision. The number one that never was.
Such a pity to hear the sad news about Terry Hall. I always loved the horns on that track(Dick Cuthel) and Lynval Golding is the coolest dude ever, love him!!!
summer of 82 and summer time I was 12 then so not understanding the political aspect of both songs but what a great summer I had with those tunes as my sunny season background the unique voice of Terry Hall made me sing all day summertime summertime summertime ...
The political bit was part of the appeal .I had just done my finals at De Montfort,Cold War History, after two years of English and American Modern History. So we covered things like Civil Rights movements, labour disputes,Nicaragua,Iran Contra, the attempted Russian invasion of Afghanistan etc. Most of my friends there were either Socialist Workers or Militant Tendency. I was considered very moderate .😅 The Two Tone movement, and later Red Wedge appealed to us all.
They had a great ear for, and appreciation of, old tunes. And the imagination + skill to reinterpret them well. "It ain't what you do" is another example.
This was the opening hit played on Retro Charts Radio this morning. RCR is playing every UK Top 40 Hit (1952-1999) on elimination random from 8am to 11pm every day. Over 15,200 hits, one at a time. How's that for variety? No ads, no presenters, no favouritism. Give it a try, you'll probably never hear the same hit twice! It’s a music journey no-one has been on before :) #RippingUpTheRadioRuleBook
1:31 is actually so sweet where it cuts off as he laughs. you can feel the fun they were having making this music video. god i love terry hall

Summertime is actually a jazz classic just like Ain't What You Do (with Bananarama).
It’s just great that they went back & redid a song from the American song book.
Agree 100%. Love this version.
One of the catchiest version of this timeless classic.
A great interpretation of a classic song
God bless you Terry.

Would be fab if we had a DVD with all the videos of Terry Hall from The Specials to his time with artists like Brodie and Gannon..

Who's listening to this in lockdown?
Me. I love this version :)
I love F. B. 3 4ever
Me. Just listened to the Waiting album too 👌Farmyard Connection, Tinny of Love etc. Took me right off to the 80's❗
Being from New Orleans, this is great. I had to sing the original in voice class in college. It is incredibly difficult.
They had a great ear for, and appreciation of, old tunes. And the imagination + skill to reinterpret them well.
"It ain't what you do" is another example.
