The old time music has surely changed in the fifty some years iv been playing and listening. When I was a young boy I'd listen to the older crowd play. It was never this accurate and smooth. This is great and sounds almost like their classical trained. The old folks played on cheap violins and some of the stuff was home made. My grandfathers friend who played the banjo would actually hold his banjo over the wood stove for a bit to tighten the skin head some.
Paddy is a common given name, often associated with people from Ireland. Back about a hundred years ago, there were quite a few immigrants from Ireland to the US that were the "common man" of the day. There are many tunes named "Paddy on the ..." (railroad, turnpike, handcar), named for the traveling ways and hard labor of these folks.
