Becoming disabled made me realise that done is better than perfect. It's been a hard lesson but thankfully I became more minimalist before the disability set in so it really has made life easier xxxxxxxxx

As a type A person, it wasn't until my children were grown, that I figured out that good enough really is good enough. I regret not learning that lesson much earlier. My children remember a really clean house and well staged holidays, but don't seem to have as many happy memories as I thought I was giving them. Relish these times with your precious kids. Enjoy the messes. These days go so quickly. Please don't forget to include the grandparents sometimes. It's pretty lonely on that end these days.

Hi Rachel :) I wanted to say I appreciate your videos and all that you put into them. That being said, I feel bad if you or other you tubers feel pressured to crank out content during December. I get the feeling from a lot of you lovely ladies who do vlogmas that you feel pressure to do videos every day. I think I can speak for most people when I say that no one is going to be upset or unsubscribe if we aren’t given a video every day. I can only imagine the amount of work that goes into creating and editing and publishing so many videos. The last thing we, your faithful subscribers, want is for you to get stressed out or burned out leading up to Christmas. So please know we are grateful for any videos you create during this busy time and please release yourself from any pressure or expectations that you need to post every day. ♥️♥️♥️

Thank you so much Jen! It’s something I enjoy doing and I did it last year and realized how much work it was, so I went back-and-forth on whether or not I should do it this year. I decided to do it if I pre-planned and pre-recorded. but as with everything in life, it doesn’t go as planned. And if I need to stop early, I will. it’s just my own expectations of myself, I know no one else has those expectations of me. ❤️❤️❤️

One more comment, specifically on this video: The thing that I really love about this video and about how open you are with everyone about the sometimes difficult processes of getting things done is that it's MORE inspiring than a fully produced video where it all seems so perfect that some of us might find it a bit unattainable... I DO LOVE all the types of videos though and really appreciate and am impressed and often inspired by the "super well thought-out" ones. It's not like we need to always be self-deprecating. Anyway... your sledding video is, dare I say it, perfect! (Also: looks like you're the only super awesome family who found a way to imperfectly go sledding! not that we need to compare... but... congratulations!)

Remember, we don't know what you were planning. Having high expectations is commendable but we would never know the difference if you change the plan and made it easier on yourself. (Which is what I hope we all want for you. To have a peaceful and enjoyable life). I really enjoy your videos but I don't want you to suffer for my benefit. Happy Holidays to you and your family. Glad they got to go sledding :)

These are some of my favorite videos though. Little to no editing, just talking. So often we feel isolated in our small, daily struggles. What a blessing to have a group where we feel like maybe we aren’t alone in this.

I love Dana and I say many of her quotes to myself often!! I’m a recovering perfectionist at 67 and I can’t tell you how thankful I am to be learning this life changing mindset. It has been so freeing.
It’s not easy to just STOP and sit in a warm car while you wait for your kids to sled… we ALL have those routines, or schedules or a VIP project list… sometimes it takes every ounce of energy to just sit. GOOD JOB!!

I've always tried to be a perfectionist and was talking recently to my pastor about it. I am so behind in all my Christmas stuff and normally would have had it done a month or more ago. My pastor looked at me and said What does perfectionism cause? Not sure how to answer. My pastor said discontentment which is so true!! So I love the thought better done than perfect!!

So, I'm pretty happy at the moment and there are a BUNCH of reasons for this. Yes, it's super fun to help someone out and then to be acknowledged so publicly for it! Yay! Also, I'm proud that I am smiling rather than "happy crying", which I might have been doing last year in similar circumstances. To me, this means that I am more grounded and going with the flow, however imperfectly, and able to be in the moment that is now, with all the messes and everything, and keep MOVING FORWARD. Thanks Rachel! And congratulations on this video!

Rachel, I think this is wonderfully fantastic. Seriously. 🥰
My mom would never do anything like this for me or my brother when we were growing up. Mom sat in front of the TV and rocked in her rocking chair. That's it. We weren't even supposed to interrupt her during commercials. She wasn't disabled - she simply had no interest in anyone else. 😔😥
So, you're doing this causes me to know and understand what a loving mother really does for her children. It pulls at my heart. This is what I wish my mom had done for us. She simply wasn't interested in being a mom at all.
I'm happy for your kids. Please keep at your 'imperfect' work. You do have your priorities straight. 🥰🕯 🎄🎁🧣🧤🎄

Thank you Serena ❤️❤️ I’m sorry that’s the way it was for you growing up. It would be easy to do, I feel that being in any relationship (wife, mother, sister, daughter, friend) but mostly as mother is a constant act of dying to our own desires. Not always fun. I fail many times, but it’s helped to pay attention and take action to avoid regret. Thank you for sharing ❤️❤️❤️

@@Nourishingminimalism thank you so much Rachel. I really appreciate your kind words. ❤
I got a big kick out of your gingerbread cookie with your hair in it. I love your sense of humor! And your ability to go with the flow. And to tell the truth ~ I closed my eyes and imagined myself sledding down that hill with the kids. We had a blast! LOL 😂 🤣 😄
I'm closer to being 60 than 50 ~ so using my imagination to sled down the hill might be the safest way for me to get down that Hill! 😄 🏂 ❄ ☃️ ❄
While I have this opportunity, I would like to tell you how much I enjoy seeing your family around the table playing games. That looks like so much fun! 😄😊 And watching you cook and bake for your family just brings a smile to my face. It's like the real life version of watching The Waltons when I was a kid growing up! 🥰
Also, I think that it's wonderful you're being open and honest about how it can be difficult at times to live a loving and fulfilling life. Thank you for that. 🦋
Have a wonderful week, Rachel. And a Very Merry Christmas to you and your lovely family 🦋🕊🦋 Love from Texas 🥰 🧣🧤 🎄

Watching your kids sledding made me smile, which was nice! I would have been out there having a go (I'm 62!), and still love snow. You're SO right that done is better than perfect and it's something I still struggle with it; sometimes doing nothing, or the most unappealing jobs rather than start the dreaded thing that might not be perfect! The videos where you talked to us as you painted were really enjoyable, it felt as though a friend was chatting to me while she worked - and I learned a lot about painting with acrylics, too. lease could you do some more like that, next year? When/if you have time! Keep up the good work - but pause to enjoy your journey, too. A friend sent me a lovely card this week, with a message on the front 'Now and then, pause in your pursuit of happiness, and just be happy'. Sometimes, NOT done doesn't matter!

If it steals your peace do what you can and let yourself off the hook. Women need each other and can bring alot to the table for ideas suggestions shortcuts. Hello,
My daughter Simone has been talking to me about you for a while now and I believe that I read something that you wrote about your decluttering process years ago. It was inspirational at the time.
I want to say that I appreciate this video because it is modelling some behaviours that are helpful during this holiday season: patience, because people have their own desires, flexibility with “limits” and taking any opportunity to care of yourself... even if the tea is cold.
Wishing you and your family a wonderful holiday season.

I love this Rachel! your videos are so grounding to me :) I definitely struggle with perfectionism, which can really hold me back. I can achieve so much and it still isn't "good enough", which sucks!. I find it takes me out of being in a place of gratitude, as I focus on all of the things I want to change and that aren't good enough. That is probably the thing that bothers me the most. Thanks for an awesome video! looks like your kids had a great time sledding Xx no sledding here today, we are expecting 32degress today (89 Fahrenheit)!

I don't care if I find a hair in my food or even if people give us food. I figure it was cooked and we prayed over it and you can usually easily remove it😄 We don't have snow on the ground in NY right now but I like to make cookies and hot cocoa when my kids come in from sledding.
