- Munnar - Bodimettu Highway Project. In this project a 42.3 km section of NH-85 from Munnar to Bodimettu is being widened from a single road to a 2 lane highway. This highway will not only de-congest the traffic problems of Munnar also it will boost the economic activities of Munnar, specially Tourism.

I travelled from Kanyakumari to Kochi via NH 66 last year. Once that road is done, its going to be a beautiful sight.
Drove through this road on dec 31 . This road has become a tourist hotspot in munnar. Driving through this road has become an activity in evryones bucketlist who is visting munnar
Have been on this road also called as Munnar Gap Road. While riding through this stretch it was undoubtedly mesmerizing. Now seeing the drone footage it's even more beautiful ❤️ NHAI and PWD has done an amazing work on this amazing stretch of tarmac 🔥

Travel time will reduce by more than 50% if they build straight road using bridges and tunnels like in China. And driving will become much less stressful too.
It will destroy the ecology and beauty of this place. Even while working for widening this road lots of land slides occured
And there is a 4 line Greenfield highway planned from kochi to theni(tamilnadu) bypassing munnar it will reduce current 146 km to 96km it's under dpr preparing stage
Munnar is the highest region in the western ghats current highway goes from 40m to all way up to 1700mtr elevation near munnar and then getting down to 300m at tamilnadu plains to make a tunnel directly would need minimum length of 40km

Also try to cover the drone shots of upcoming 4 lanning of NH75 from Hassan to Kalladka , this project is crucial as it connects the Capital Bangalore to Port city Mangalore. The road works are still WIP, as this highway is key for business and transportation.

Yes. Kochi to Munnar / Vattavada/Kanthalloor bus goes through this road. From TN side Theni to Munnar bus. You could get a bus in every 40 minutes from Kochi.

Tamil Nadu and Kerala drivers (I'm speaking of everyone having a "licence") are reputedly among the worst and most dangerous drivers in India.
There is so much death in Tamil Nadu due to lack of respect towards the driving rules. Driving in the hills is an extra tuff task, and with the highly touristification of this road leg, governments must be focused on the driving safety issues.
Widening roads will reduces some problems, but it won't change the core basis of road travel issue in India.

Anyhow it should be widened atleast 24 mtr to a 4 track road with the forecast to future. 3.75*2track + 2.5 mtr extream left shoulder line +0.5 mtr center divider shoulder line =10.5 mtr one side. 10.5 mtr x 2 =21 mtr, 1 mtr center divider+ 1 mtr each side foot path= total 24 mtr wide, 4 line road. If they construct like that it would be great 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
NH 85 is a new greenfield highway under consideration by the government and it has been decided to build it as four or six lanes by including Bharat Mala in the inspection, so there is no problem even if the existing highway is two lanes.
