I did an associates degree in hydraulic civil engineering when I was in my early teens, thank you so much for making this video. It makes people aware of the dangers concerning water and engineering. Pumps, weirs, dams, augers, all types of drainage system, culverts and canals are just a few examples of water infrastructure that is likely to claim lives during high flow.
Whirlpools and black holes have always terrified me as a kid. A shame Jacob found out the hard way as to why. It is always that "one more go" that gets them...really sad.
Thank you for respecting this man's Legacy and not letting death be the last thing death is only the beginning we'll use this death as water safety awareness
I suffocated underwater many times and saw death before my eyes when someone always ends up saving me. I just can't imagine how disturbing it would be to actually drown😢
I was actually in a situation like that myself, I drowned to the point of thinking my last thoughts.. I even saw a tunnel and a light getting brighter, until my friend saved me at the very last second. I was just floating knowing it was all over!! Is definitely anxiety fueling, very scary and disturbing!
Whirlpools are the products of nightmares. Why the hell jump in with one? That's like sharing a bed with a running lawnmower for a quick nap. RIP dude braver than me.
This is butt nekkid stupidity. Anyone knows you only see a whirlpool when there a rapid downward flow of water. To jump in and swim next to one is, well, BNS. I know some folks who crossed one in a, 18' bass boat to see what would happen and it turned them sideways and started spinning them and the only way they got out was to gun the 200hp Johnson outboard wide ass open. You don't f' around with whirlpools.
I remember watching the whole video, and just thinking how much one person must not value their life play stupid games you win stupid prizes..This is like jumping into a lions den expecting not to get bit
The dude was mentally ill without seeming to realise it. He believed his dead sister lived on through him and sought out increasingly greater risks as a result. Had he received proper therapy for his depression and delusions he might have been able to work it out, but for any combination of reasons that never happened. His accidental death was inevitable. If not the whirlpool then maybe a literal lion's den one day. Maybe he had some people pressuring him to get help, but on the surface it looks like his entire community enabled these behaviours. All too common.
some kids don’t believe a pot is hot regardless of being told this, regardless of the visible fire, steam, warmth emanating, the sounds and smell - learn from the experiences of others and most importantly use good sense to AVOID danger. Try being daring…to live long!
@@InternetCat02 I never disrespected their beliefs I was just saying that God didn’t influence his decision to go into the whirlpool so it doesn’t make sense to bring God into this
I tried this once in the river, in about 4ft of water. It was also moving slowly in a larger circle. It pulled me down by my feet and spun me around. Somehow it kicked me out and I stood up gasping, almost didn't make it.
I had a friend that was always doing dangerous things because she was petite and quick. After being with her one day and following in her footsteps I decided that I was the one in danger and put an end to the relationship.
We can't know this for sure, but it's possible that he made another mistake. See, most people, if they get in a such situation - a whirlpool trying to pull them down while they are low on oxygen, try to apply force and swim up, following their instinct. However it only makes them spend their oxygen faster. What is better to do is to actually swim downward to the bottom, where whirlpool ends. Then on the bottom, where the current is weaker and there's no downward force, swim to the side and only them ascend to the surface. But most people don't know this, and a lot of those who do tend to panic and forget about it. So it's possible that this is what happenned to him and caused him his life.
So what he taught us? You can do risky thing, as long as you have alternative plan to escape the situation and survive. Don't create more "dumb ways to die".
There are several daredevil young people on Utube that like to take unnecessary risks just to get views. 2 that I know of have very recently paid a high price (not dead yet) for their efforts.
wait - why do neoprene suits become less buoyant when fully submerged? i get that the air bubbles in the material become more compressed and hence less buoyant as water pressure increases, but wouldn't think the difference would be substantial after only a couple of meters
All water stunts like this one should be performed with a harness (or at least an ankle strap) tethered to a wench that can quickly pull you back to the surface if something goes wrong.
There is also another reason for which both whirlpools and strog current waters are so dangerous. Once a fluid (be it liquid or gas) is moving, its pressure decreases, which in turn decreases its density. Yet another thing only adding up to this fact is the fact, that by moving water mixes with air much easier, thus making it less dense - and as the water is moving constantly, it mixes with itself as well, decreasing its overall density on larger volume. This is why it's so much easier to dry in a flood - there are, of course, certain behavioural reasons for this (e.g. shock and panic), but it's also a result of lower density of water as it's moving - and also why people drown in whirlpools.
Don't only gases have a significant density in that they are compressible while liquids like water are incompressible so that their density doesn't change with pressure? It's the forces of the moving water that do the damage.
@patf6555 not really - the best way to prove it is the way Pitot pipe works (as the fluid it's measuring is moving, its pressure reading decreases). We can also prove it mathematically - after recalculating Bernoulli's equation (being the energy conservation law for fluids), and after assuming height doesn't change, we get something of this sort: d=2(C-p0)/v² (C - some constant (e.g. internal energy of the liquid), p0 - static pressure, d - density, v - velocity) Of course, while dealing with static cases we can model water as incompressible, but every fluid drops its pressure (and therefore its density) as it moves. It applies to *all* fluids, including liquids like water. If that wasn't the case for liquids, whirlpools wouldn't suck you downwards and you could potentially swim in a waterfall.
Not too far from where I am there is a place were two rivers merge. If the current is right an eddy will form. If it is exceptionally strong it will form a whirlpool.
Maelstroms are very scary and extremely dangerous! Always stay away from them! You should never cross one with a small boat but only bigger ships can go through them but I am not saying you should try this with any boat!!!!
