- Here's a rare recording of Jaco and his quartet for the occasion playing "Dolphin Dance". Jaco takes a three minute solo and is in good shape. This was part of a gig Jaco did with "Here Goes The Neighbourhood", the band he formed for a short period in early 1985 with guitarist/singer Jorma Kaukonen. Jaco opened the set with Jerry Gonzalez on trumpet, Rashied Ali on drums and Manoel Monteiro on percussion. Location: Lone Star Cafe in NYC. Date: February 26th in 1985.

1985 ish (around when he made the instructional video with jerry jermont) jaco is probably my favorite, his tone and note choice is top notch imo.
I'm also fond of a lot of the playing he did later on in his life and I feel a lot of the criticism from some people is largely unwarranted. I actually prefer his best playing in 1984/85/86 to his last couple of years in Weather Report. Thanks for commenting.
There's not much from this period on the internet. Thanks!
You're welcome. It was an uneven period for Jaco perfomance wise but he takes a nice solo here. Greetings from Norway.
Original Jaco !!
Yes indeed. Thanks for leaving a comment.
I had tickets to see Jorma & Jaco in D.C. in March of '85. Unfortunately, Jaco didn't show up.
Thanks for sharing. It must have been a real bummer when you found out that Jaco wasn't going to be a part of the show.
@@musicuniverse1986 Of course it was a disappointment. But I was lucky enough to see Jaco in 1984 with his band at Blues Alley in D.C.

Thanks for the positive reactions. Greetings from Norway.
Fun fact: Both Jorma and Jaco have finnish roots...😄
First of all who is Jorma? Second of all what are finnish roots?
@@bAgRiMoIrEsS.4 Read the description under the video. About the Finnish roots he was referring to the fact that Jaco was one quarter Finnish and Jorma Kaukonen 1/2.
Yes, I'm aware of that fact. To be precise, Jaco was one quarter Finnish and Jorma 1/2 :)
@@musicuniverse1986Great ancestry. Wonderful human beings with beautiful spirit's.
