If distilled or rain water are not feasible, adding aquarium conditioner to the water from your faucet is the next best option. I use "API Stress Coat +" in every watering can. Leaving tap water to sit overnight does not work. Most municipalities have changed from chlorine to chloramine, and the latter does not evaporate. Moreover, there are other minerals and additives that remain even after filtering the water and letting it sit overnight. The water conditioner neutralizes them well enough to make the plants not get those burnt tips.
I've noticed amazing results with browning tips by using fish tank conditioner. I took an old medicine bottle with a dropper & repurposed it. I used about a full dropper to a gallon of water & all of my plants are loving it.
I just picked up a curly spider plant at Lowe’s yesterday! Love this plant. Definitely use water conditioner with this plant to avoid crisp/brown leaves.
hi Ashley, Many thanks for this fun video. I love Spider plants! I don’t currently own one but way back in the day I had several. Such pretty plants and reasonably easy to care for. A win/win in the plant world! Take care! 👌🪴🥰
"girl you got a lot of hair" cracked me up 😂😂😂 I propagated 2 spider plant babies from my grandpa's plants about 6 months ago and one has already made little babies. Can't wait to share her with friends and family ❤️
Man I have this kind of plant sense haha. Literally just repotted a few small ones from my folks back yard. They have a lot of it growing so I have plenty to propagate. That and you just uploaded this video. Really informative! ✌😄 🪴
Hi Ashley! Happy new year and thank you for the 2024 content. I’m so picky w my YT plant channels but you are always my go to. I am wondering if you could help me ID a plant that strongly resembles a string of turtles but red on the back of leaves and stems. I rescued it in 2020 and it’s so delicate to touch but it’s my fave plant. I know you’re a busy girl and may not get to the comment section so if anyone else can help me lmk. Happy New Year, everyone 🎉🎉🎉
@@k.j.krimson2590 that’s the closest I’ve come to finding something similar to it but when watching videos on it, the leaves grow larger, aren’t as plump as mine and no turtle design on top like my mystery plant. Also I couldn’t come close to handling mine the way I seen the cascade handled. Thank you so much and I appreciate you!
Hi Ashley. Happy New Year! Love your videos. I've had my spider plant for around two years now. It's healthy and growing but not producing babies 😔 Do i have to wait longer or do something differently? Thank you.
God, thank you for beauty for ashes, thank you for good buys, thank you for retirement plans and money. Thank you for forgiving us from not spending or saving right. God, will you change this before it is too late? Thank you for help, encouragement, comfort, knowing, support, understanding, provision, guidance, knowledge of, prophecies, faith, hope and love, acceptance, embracing, smiles, laughter, abounding grace, gratitude, thankfulness and assuring us In Jesus mighty name. Amen 🙏 🤍🌈🙏
Thank you for such an informative video. I currently have most of my plants in leca and was wondering if systemic granules would work in semi hydroponics?
Systemic granules are not recommended for semi-hydro. One thing you can try is a product called SNS-209 added to the nutrient water in your reservoirs. It's not the same as a pesticide that kills on contact. What it does is make the plant taste bad to piercing and sucking pests (spider mites, thrips, mealybugs, scale, aphids) so they stop feeding. I use it regularly and it works well. When I have an unfortunate outbreak---after a plant swap, for example---I use Safer Insect Killing Soap Concentrate, weekly. I do 4 weeks if it's mealybugs or aphids, and 6 weeks if it's spider mites or thrips.
I planted the babies of white looking this thing. It’s been almost a month but it looks like it is finally giving new growth instead of all the leaves dying 😬😱 new crazy plant mom here
Very informative wondering I’m from Canada and cannot buy feed me fertilizer here wondering whether 20-20-20 would work, or fish emulsion I do have worm casing to add to my soil.
I've had to throw alot of my plants in the bin all died and not growing. It's freezing cold here too and can't afford to have the heat on. Any suggestions
I've had my spider plant for coming to 4 years now but there have been no babies to date. It has near doubled in size during the time but where there are more leaves I see no babies. Any ideas or suggestions? It's in indirect sunlight, appropriate sized pot, watered well enough to it's needs. 😊
Then don't over-water them. They have thick tuberous roots which hold water through drought, they only need to be moistened occasionally as the top soil dries out.
I LUV Bonnie Spider Plants. 💞😍💝 I have hard water and I use Stress Coat which is for aquariums. And, it conditions my tap water WONDERFULLY! My varigated spider plants no longer get brown tips... ❤🎉🤗🪴🌿
I agree! My first plant purchase was a Calathea. Luckily, I found this site and Sheffield where I learned about tap water conditioner. It’s been one year - it has doubled in size, and very little brown edges. I have accumulated ten other plants that are also thriving. I’m very thankful for the great help that can be found on UA-cam!

Great tip, thanks for sharing!

Me, too!!! A bottle will last a lifetime...lol! Since you only need a few drops....😅😂❤
100% agree. Sheffield turned me on to it and and SO many of my plants have responded so positively to treated water.
@jenw5854 I also got that from Sheffield. Game changing for my calathea's
Yep, API Stress Coat for about yr and half; game changer for spider plants, Calathea’s, Stromanthe’s and all others too. Happy New Year all🪴🌿❣️
Thanks for sharing! I'll have to give that a try!
I just picked up a curly spider plant at Lowe’s yesterday! Love this plant. Definitely use water conditioner with this plant to avoid crisp/brown leaves.
Great plant care tip! Thanks!
Thank you, Ashley. I just got one as a teacher gift. I needed this information for sure!
You're welcome! I hope your plant thrives!
Happy New year Ashley!
You too!! 😘

So inspired by your videos. Just picked up a Bonnie Spider plant for my collection. 😊
Hope it goes great for you! Spider plants are wonderful plants

The "Babies" are actually called Pups, or puppies.
The auto-generated subtitles thought you said "spider rats" instead of "spiderettes". I'm calling them that from now on. Great video!
Happy New Year!!!!!!!!! Next Time, I will try again my Spider Plant bit the dust!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks Happy New Year! Better luck on your next spider plant!
You would also like horrocks on breton and 44th in wyoming, and flowerland in kentwood on 28th st for plant content
Happy New Year 🎊 🎉❤
@Ashley Do you have a snake plant's nursery tour?

Happy New Year! Gosh, I'm not sure what kind it is, but I'm so curious now! Hopefully someone can let us know. :) Thanks for watching!
Sounds like a Peperomia Ruby Cascade.

Hmm it’s definitely old enough to be producing pups. Maybe it’s a fertilizing/lighting issue?
Feed it with bottled water, and a Miracle Gro stick, some sunlight and she'll make pups for you.
Going to visit our lowes and home depot over this coming weekend. Love your videos and how excited to get
Thanks for watching! Hope you find some great plants!
In my area only Lowe’s had them. I was looking for one and there was nothing at Home Depot.
Ashley, what about misting? Do they like a little misting? I live in central Florida and she is out on my front porch….bright not in direct sun.

I’ve never tried them in leca but I’m sure someone in the comments could offer advice!
@irairod5160 Thank you!!!
@irairod5160 I appreciate how thorough you are with instructions. You truly are so kind. Oceans of Gratitude

That’s exciting!
I've got infections under my nails too with touching the soil. Not good for skin either best to use gloves
Very informative wondering I’m from Canada and cannot buy feed me fertilizer here wondering whether 20-20-20 would work, or fish emulsion I do have worm casing to add to my soil.
Definitely!

I can't get systemic granules in massachusetts. I don't see why indoor plants can't use them.

I just realized, I could make a small fortune on sold plants in about 5-7 years...
no pecan nut tree in indonesia please help also pistachio nut tree only cashew nut tree
I have these in my tortoise enclosures because they can eat them and they are cheap to replace.
Great idea for spider plants!
Anytime I have a plant that doesn't like to dry completely; I think, Aqua globe...
You won't be sorry. I get mine @ Petco, I'm in I'm Lansing.
I feel that you were speaking way, way, way faster than usual. Was this on purpose?
I wish she would slow down and talk much slower, video would be so much more enjoyable!!!!
@karenburrell3775 I hadn't noticed it before, just on this video. It was bothersome. I even looked to see if I had changed my speed settings.
I don't over water and I used rain water
Every spider plant I buy eventually dies from over watering
Then don't over-water them. They have thick tuberous roots which hold water through drought, they only need to be moistened occasionally as the top soil dries out.
