So, listen. I'm a life-long arachnophobe. (I once nearly crashed a car on the motorway because a spider caught me off-guard). Don't ask me how I started watching your channel, I've no idea! But I kind of got obsessed, and I really love your velvet spider, Wednesday. Anyway. I just ordered some ladybird spiders and a starter kit, and I can't wait to receive them! (I'm still working up to tarantulas, though).
I was always seriously creeped out by spiders. I'm getting better with true spiders now and, surprisingly, I find tarantulas so much easier. I've been in the hobby for about a year and now have 15 tarantulas 😁
Until I came across your channel I thought that tarantulas were all fairly big, now I am aware that they come in small too. This just shows that you can learn a new thing, no matter how old you actually are.
Looking good Kat! It is so much fun to work on a small scale. I am still honored about your comment on my channel! My next bioactive will be for my madagascar hisser colony. Going to put in a water fall and pool in it. One thing I want to mention. I had issues with mold on the moss and vegetation. I was able to fix that by drilling vent holes along the substrate level.
Why did I never think Bioactive for Tarantula?!? So glad you did this. I hope to see more similar uber upgraded upgrades in the future! All the best and thank you.
Kat!! I love everything you do! You inspire me!!! I want some hairy babies and some frogs but for now I'm so happy to watch you mother your spooders!!!

@@kenjayveerelativo4400 well...I never went out actively hunting. The one o have I rescued from my cat in my house and this was before I became active in conservation for arachnids. There are many species that are endangered in the wild that is being kept alive by the hobby. If I knew then what I know now I wouldn't have taken it from the wild but in hindsight because of that I was able to bring their beauty to my community of T lovers.

Kat!! Fish keeper here. I definitely recommend that you look into live plants and opt for wood and natural decor rather than fake. Fake plants + fake decor provide no real benefit to fish and can be sharp and cause lacerations and injuries. Live plants and the like take a bit more work but provide endless benefits to your aquarium. Definitely look into planted tanks. UA-cam and Google both can help. I know you’re passionate about your pets so I think it would be a good rabbit hole for you to dive into! It’s also rewarding and fun. Pea puffers adore heavily planted tanks with lots of hiding spots and things for them to nibble on especially. The happiness and life span of your fish will expand with proper tank set up!
hey! thank you for the advice. If you look closely, a few of the plants in there are actually real and I also have moss balls on the way. That said, I added fake plants in there recently because the real ones weren't thriving (an old grumpy bristle nose pleco lives in the castle for the past 5 yrs or so and roots them up at night often lol) and I needed more coverage ASAP to make sure the puffers all could establish their own territories and have a lot of hiding spots. As for the wood, I personally prefer the castle! I know it's not everyone's cup of tea but my daughter and I enjoy the tank and the display as it is. I know a lot of people prefer natural looking tanks, but I wouldn't say my tank is not "proper" just because I opted for some fake decor, as the fish and all inhabitants have thrived well for me.
@@tarantulakat definitely understand! I hope my comment didn’t come across aggressive. Your fish look healthy and happy, and your water is clear of blooms etc. Fish is my main hobby so I was excited to see your set up and I always get excited to tell people about the million different things that can be done. :)
@@MrsTomRiddle no it’s totally fine! I have had sooooooooooooooo many people make fun of the castle tank, believe me 😂 I am hoping to add more real plants soon though, but I added the fake ones in the meantime so the puffers feel more secure until the new ones grow. The only plants that are doing good in there are small and short so I wanted coverage on the top too because I read it’s better to break it up so they can’t see across the tank. I unfortunately pulled a lot of plants out that just .. didn’t look good, then added 2 fake ones, so we just have to do the mix for now and hopefully I can find a tall plant that will do well that the pleco will leave alone. If you have any successions on that feel free! I’m no expert which is why I don’t talk much about my fish d:
@@tarantulakat Honestly watching you start bio active enclosures makes me think you’d really enjoy fish keeping. It’s hands on and very rewarding and you can be SO creative with your aquascapes, your fish, etc. if you’re having trouble keeping plants alive because of your peco, there are certain ones that don’t actually need to be rooted. They do better without their roots in substrate. Cabomba Caroliniana might be good. Duckweed is gorgeous but grows very fast so it requires more hands on upkeep. Hornwort is also pretty. Dosing with iron can help with overall health of the plants as well! It gets fairly tall. You can buy nutrients to mix into your substrate that will provide rooted plants with the food they need to thrive. People also use Java moss as a floating plant and it can be gorgeous. There’s tons of options but it is DEFINITELY an addicting rabbit hole 😂
I am very afraid of spiders. After now watching several of your videos, I do have a greater respect for them. Not saying I would ever keep them as pets BUT, appreciate them in the garden!! :) Thank you!

I love the safety pin 1 because of the spoopy vibes and 2 because safety pins are a symbol that shows you support the LGBT+ community so thats actually really awesome!
Great display on how different T's of the same species can have very different temperaments. I am making a bioactive for a Psalmopoeus pulcher tonight. Might put a video up. I have also had a bad experience with the mesh. A fossorial species got its toe caught when burrowing and lost a leg. I have switched to a piece of plexiglass cut to shape as the false bottom for T's.
This channel has been helping me come less arachnophobic. I mean like now I really want a jumping spider but I am not gonna own a big tarantula instead imma just enjoy your vids.
Please keep in mind that if you really want to know how dry it really is, than dig in 6-18" into the ground. They will burrow and usually find a good temp and moisture level while staying away from predators.
I have a safety pin tatoo from my misspent youth (lol). Cool stuff as usual! Question for you if you happen to see this: Do you have a B. albiceps ? For some reason I have become obsessed with adding one or more to my army. I dream of the the day that I will have enough tarantulas to combine forces with you and some of the other UA-camrs and we will be able to achieve world domination. Thanks Kat! 😊
I just found your channel and at first I was cringing at seeing your hand so close to the spiders but I soon realized you know how to handle them really well and I’m enjoying binge watching. I have a question, do they drink water? If so where is their water? Thank you for treating these creatures so kindly. It would be great if all humans had even an ounce of your compassion for animals.
Thank you for watching! Yes they drink water, but mainly get their hydration through food. I feed mine hornworms pretty frequently and they are very juicy, so I do think they tend to be a bit more hydrating than other feeders. But other than that, I just mist once or twice a wk and then overflow their water dishes maybe once every 2-3 wks to dampen the substrate.
Have you tried using Bioshot from The Bio Dude or Bioactive Booster from Josh’s Frogs? I have used both and they help jumpstart the good bacteria/microbes in the soil, kind of like using beneficial bacteria in an aquarium. It helps with the potential fungus/mold blooms often encountered with new bioactive set ups for reptiles. Do you think it would work the same/be ok to use with Ts?
You totally should be able to, but if they need a lot of light it might be a problem because tarantulas don't really like the light or it could make their enclosure too warm. Also consider the watering, if the species of tarantula doesn't like humidity but the plant needs frequent watering, it might cause issues. That said, I do know pothos typically does pretty well in enclosures. And also make sure the kind of plant is okay around tarantulas (certain herbs specifically deter spiders so just be mindful) but yes! Definitely something that could be fun
How do you keep your tank so clear? I’ve had a bacteria bloom in my water for months and it makes it so cloudy. I only have 4 snails in a 5 gal. The parameters test fine but the cloudiness won’t go away. I really can’t remove them to start a new tank and cycle. I do water changes often. The filter pads get gunky really fast. I had to take out all the gravel because so much waste and food was getting caught between it, and if I wanted to get it all out, I would have had to remove like all the water.
