I'm getting a lot of sediment build up between the edges of the non-detachable filter tray and the steel tray. Is there no way to take this apart to clean it? No brush will reach those areas.
The products is expensive. The filters are expensive and not good for the environment. You have to clean it either way and take apart all the pieces and wash it. It cost you per month for the filters. Same goes with food feeders and automatic cat litters, you have to clean it either way and all those filters and pieces cost and must be washed. So these products really do not make my life easier for my cats, its the opposite. So i really do not get why people buy these things. This is just a luxury products that takes more time to wash, cost more than usual and do have loud sounds. So what is the point? Asking for a friends friends cousin, because a normal food and water bowl takes 2-3 minutes to wash, and for the automatic cat litter, slow, loud sound, breaks, and take all the pieces for cleaning takes a lot of time.
Many cats actually drink more water when there is running water. It’s super important for cats to get adequate hydration which they would from blood and fluids of prey in wild but don’t from standard diets. Especially if they are ill, fountains help them to drink more water. They should eat canned, fresh or raw, too. Not just a luxury.

Question: Can't all these parts simply be washed in the dishwasher, maybe at low temperature?
Only the stainless steel water tray (along with the non-detachable filter tray connected with it) can be put into the dishwasher for cleaning.
How often do you need to do this deep cleaning?
I deep clean it every time I change the filter- so every 2 weeks
How often do you need to replace the black filter?
When you buy replacement filters on our website or Amazon, you recieve both the white and black filters. Let us know if you have any more questions!

I wound up using a toothbrush, that seemed to do a good job. Would be preferable if it detached though.

Can you use dishwashing liquid also?
I guess no because of filter ; it could retain the soap
Even with the foam filter, you need to do this. Their saliva will congeal in the housing and impede the impeller!
