Nice video. I tow with a Ecoboost. 24ft trailer with 2 RZRs on it. I got 9.7 miles per gallon. Towing from Alabama to Tackett Creek last week. Running about 75. I happy with it.

Great comparison video fellas! It's crazy how efficient and capable these newer half tons are now. I have a 2012 F-150 with the 3.5 ecoboost and it tows 11,300 lbs. Unless I buy another big toy hauler, a heavy duty gasser will be all the truck I'll ever own.

I agree they are, for what I'd be doing even the heaviest loads which isn't that heavy in the scheme of things a half ton is all I'd need for personal use and daily driving.

I know that y’all’s new set ups is gassers but something to look into if you go back to diesels is the mud flap app. Our group used it to go to Lake City, CO from Missouri where we averaged 4.60 with the app for diesel compared the average pump price of 5.75 to 6 dollars a gallon at that time. It saved us quit a bit of money on a 2400 mile trip.

Thank u guys for doing this video, I sold my 2019 F250 because of Ca emissions and it never got more that 14mpg I bought a 2021 Silverado 5.3 8speed and gotta say.. The ride is so much better, the cab has the same room as the f250 and towing is so close to the Desiel,, of course past 10k the Desiel will shine but unless u have a 5 th wheel or tow for living, the gas truck is the way to go..🤘🏻

I do the same run as you from Janesville to some private land down from El Ray's. I switched from gas to diesel just because it was a giant pia to get into the gas pumps with a big trailer. Fleet card is so handy.

Here is some 1/2 ton truck towing information for you.
The truck is a 2019 RAM quad cab, Laramie, 5.7 liter Hemi, 4X4 with three adults riding on 37” tires.
We towed a 11k pound 36’ bumper pull RV from Dallas, TX to Lake Powell, Arizona (Pace, AZ) then to the south rim of the Grand Canyon and back 2,400 miles round trip.
It was summer and 110 degrees most of the trip. We towed it at 70-75 mph, the truck lived at 3,000 RPM’s and in some of the mountains it was holding 4,000 RPM’s up long hills. The truck did great, not skipping a beat. We changed the oil before and after the trip, and ran premium fuel. I limited the gear shifts to keep it from changing gears all the time. The transmission, oil, and coolant temps all rose during the long mountain hill climbs but remained within the acceptable limits. We for sure pushed the truck but it did great and still going strong today.
Our MPG were upper 8’s. I can’t say enough good things about that truck. We were maxed out on tow rating and I am sure several hundred pounds over payload.

@@404Trucking I was too. Considering it was 110 degrees outside. The truck is still going strong today. My son just got back from a three hour trip to Oklahoma with his buddy in it. It has just over 60k miles we haven’t had a problem with it yet. It’s been a great truck.

I’ve been driving 15 hours one way to WV in a 2019 F150 w/ 8.5k. I’m averaging around 10 mpg. Tows great, doesn’t sway. Im going to use a weight distribution hitch next trip just to distribute weight to the front. I’m eating tires in the rears.

Great review guys!! My 19 TB LT with the 5.3 (only engine available in a Trail Boss in 19....)tows awesome for a half ton. As butt hurt i am as it not being a 6.2, never once while towing have i felt i needed more power. 8 speed grade braking is impressive. Yes no diesel, but i aint racing while im towing.. Chassis stability on the new truck is also worlds better than my 08 silverado i got 14 mpg hauling a 5000lb boat for 8hrs; literally didnt know it was there while cruising

Looks like the new Silverado tows a lot better than previous generations! No way I’d even consider hauling that load on that route with say an 11 Silverado 1/2 ton. Your right, if your only going to tow an open trailer once a month to go riding, I’d probably rather tolerate the lesser power but have all the options and a good daily driver.

We’ve owned a 17 Expedition with 3.5 and a 16 F150 with the 2.7. Both towed better than the Silverado but I love the looks and ride of my Chevy. They all have their strengths and weaknesses for sure. 👍👍

My 18 5.3 Silverado gets between 8-10 mpg from close to the Illinois border in Indiana up to Silver lake in Michigan with 2 yxz's on a heavy open trailer. The wind really either helps or kills the mileage. The other thing we've noticed is the mileage is so much better if the speed is kept to 65. The minute I start bumping it up over 70 it goes to shit. It's only a 3hr drive for us so being in a big hurry just doesn't pay.

I went form a 3/4 ton Cummins to a half ton ford. I was coming back from a sled trip in Montana . Lost my trailer breaks on a steep mountain pass in British Columbia . That trailer pushed me around and into the ditch . I didn’t have a chance. With the sleds and gear it was around 6500 lbs total . A heavier truck would have handled it better. Doesn’t have to be a diesel but 3/4 ton for me from now on. It’s the perfect size truck for my use. Half ton towing ratings are for optimal conditions. That’s just been my experience .

Fyi i have that 8 speed tranny with the 6.2L in my 2015 chevy. Had tranny replaced at 16k under warranty. Have about 67k on it now but around the 40k mile mark on the tranny i was getting this weird vibration around 40-70 mph. Had something to do with the tranny fluid from what chevy dealer told me. I had the tranny fluid changed, and new filter. They have revised tranny oil for them 8 speeds, and it worked. Thought they were full of it but I havent had the vibration like i was. Two dealerships wanted to charge me for figuring out what was wrong, or to do a full flush $800. Went to Attica IN chevy dealership (by the badlands) charged me like 375 or so.

A Reese Dual Cam hitch would make a huge difference for you towing that setup when it comes to sway. A 6.4 or 6.6 would make on ramps a little better. The only thing your missing from a bigger truck is stopping power. A 2500 size would not even blink with that load. Diesel is not what it used to be since they put in the smog and DEF equipment in them. They are good if you tow heavy regularly, but your setup is fine for that load for a weekend warrior. Unless I had a 40ft 5th wheel or huge wedge with 8 or more machines, I would stick with gas with a long bed with a 50 gallon tank.

It was squishy and got moved around by the trailer quite a bit. Bought a 2500 Sierra, tows much better for the weight. I also feel much safer, duramax gets about 10MPG, eco diesel got about 7.

really dont have much to do with the year after the ls trucks, i personally have and continue to buy pre 06 because they have better transmissions you never have to mess with. its the 1500 chev from this year is the best mileage and reliability and you can get 4 wheel rotors is what matters that and the airbags is the best all around towing setup for dual daily driver the 2500 and up are terrible ride and not neccecarry have had thee now going back to the tbi 1500 hualing big campers everywhere they do great and good milage all the time
20+ unloaded and 10-12 huling the 30 trailer and 16 enclosed and two quads, with the 5.3 , used to get two more on everything tbi 350/5spd

The difference are heavier truck handling weight better and better fuel efficiency due to diesels having more torque. Biggest thing is stopping bigger truck stops better. Bottom line an average everyday dad hauling a camper or boat or sxs and maybe a skid steer or mini ex 2 times a year a half ton will be just fine.

I love the 7.3 first gasser not screaming trying to maintain 75mph. If you get one make sure you go 4.30 gears I couldn't find one but 3.55 does fine. My bumper is rated at 18.2k that's enough for my needs. Check the receiver before you buy some have 15k stamped some 18.2k ford charts are wrong depending on options and recivers they put on. And it burns gas but doesn't cost as much as a diesel to fill up, it's really the better option at current fuel prices (3.12 vs 5.29 per gallon)!
