One of the best parts was the interview of the dad. He explained that he was a dancer and knows how to contort his body and tries to teach her that but that he cannot help her with climbing technique. As a coach in a different sport, I commend him for that. We love when parents get involved and try to help their kids. Many don't know the limits of their skills though and teach them wrong things. He knew his limit and let the coach take over from there. Kudos to him

Ashima is such an amazing climber and an all-around great kid. I see her a lot at BKB and she has a fantastic attitude and is often cheering on other climbers around her. Her humility as well as her style are inspirational.

Found out recently about how climbing is in the 2020 olympics and am hoping to go and compete. Doubt I'll get a medal though as there are so many great climbers like Ashima and Brooke, and I've only been climbing for a yearish...

Her hands look fine, they were covered in chalk when there was a close up. Her hand shape when she's climbing is to get maximum leverage and strength (making her hand look claw-like or like she's holding a baseball). Her toes look a little worse, but that's down to having them crammed into climbing shoes. The tighter the shoe, the more precise you can be with your foot holds and the more strength you can get from your toes. Loose shoes let your toes bend or slip.

It's all about the weight/strength ratio. She may be very light but she also has half (if that) the muscle mass of a adult male climber. I agree that the transition will be rather bumpy but all it takes is hard work. This said, I would love to see her more diverse problems (roofs, compression, ...) to better understand her power.
