  • In this episode of “On the Job,” Priya shows you how the sausage gets made. Or in this case, the hot dog. But not just any hot dogs - these are New York’s favorite dog, Sabrett.
In New York, you cannot escape the famed blue and yellow Sabrett umbrellas. They’ve appeared in countless films and television shows, and throughout popular culture. The nearly 100-year-old family-run business is the sixth-largest hot dog distributor in the United States, but how do the dogs get made? Follow along as Priya dives in to the complex process and skilled labor behind the scenes.
“On the Job With Priya Krishna” is a series about labor and the people who shape what we eat and how we eat, and whose jobs often go unseen. Tune in.

Another home run from Priya. One of my favorite things about you is that you dignify everyone you meet: with warmth, with grace, with genuine curiosity about their role in an operation, but beyond that, about their story, their life. Keep up the good work!
Also, not gonna ignore the fact that Edgar just picks up a hot dog and eats it as is 😂

I love this video series. Priya is the perfect host for this. She is so enthusiastic, curious, and genuine. Her interviews with workers are so lovely. I enjoy hearing her speak Spanish to folks. I feel like these videos really shine a light on people whose efforts aren’t always recognized, despite their work product reaching so many. Keep these coming. I love seeing these processes and hearing from the people on the ground.

I'm a vegetarian [not vegan!] and so don't eat meat hot dogs, but my family eats meat and I do the shopping so was interested in seeing how the Sabrett's were made. I had heard once that you don't want to see how hot dogs were made, but honestly, these look OK... though I'm a bit put off by bone being ground up in them, though I suppose it's OK as bones are a good source of calcium and if they're super ground, it must be OK. Hubby loves hot dogs... So I feel better buying him Sabrett's, knowing how clean the facility is and how the ingredients are just beef and spices, no weird fillers.

She jels. Like a kid in a candy factory. Even her voice high pitch tones amid all the background noise are a perfect fit. Not soft spoken , but easy going , and ebullient , and this is what makes her perfect for the subjects the editors pick.
Also the blend of sound tracks are on spot. The production team makes it sing. There is some NYT quality to it.
And the underscored factor , the workers that show up for the shift , this being NYC , I am sure they endure MTA brutal , cramped , and often late trains and subways , so props for them to carry on with gusto.
Bravo Pryia team. You are the sheeet

In 2004, FSIS enacted new regulations to protect consumers against Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy. Now, mechanically separated beef is considered inedible and prohibited for use as human food. When used as an ingredient in human food, industry must label mechanically separated pork as "mechanically separated pork" in the ingredients statement of the product's label.
