    They have since added an information plaque on a tree. I did this hike earlier this month. Love the videos! 😀😀

      They finally listened and put up a plaque! Great stuff.... thanks for letting me know. It's a great little trail, right? :)

    I travelled the Goat Track at Mt. Glorious over 50 years ago when it was all gravel.

    Excellent audio of the green catbird. It's one of my favourite sounds in the rainforest. They are actually of the bowerbird family but the males don't build a bower. The Piper Commanche Route markers were installed by QPWS because of the high number of people getting lost in this area. Police were sick & tired of having to walk round & round looking for them. This particular ridgeline that runs up to Mt D'Aguilar is one of the easiest & simplest routes to hike, so I can only assume they got lost following that ridiculous pink tape that use to be all over this route in different directions on trees as well as the ground & is becoming more & more frequent throughout the bush & rainforest. I regularly hike throughout D'Aguilar & try to remove as much pink tape as I can. It's just pvc pollution that's not biodegradable. If people can't hike without using pvc pollution then they should go with someone who knows how to navigate or stick to well graded tracks. The wreck story is quite a sad one isn't it. It's just a pity Paul didn't stay the night with his friend at Harrison's Pocket instead of trying to get back to Archerfield before dark. So those ferals that feel the need to graffiti the wreckage, they should remember that someone died in that plane on a stormy evening all alone, whether instantaneously or hours later no one knows. They should show some respect & stop treating it as some sort of trophy.

      Thanks for that info about the markers. Didn't realise how many people were getting lost!

    Been to the wreck. The plane took off from near where i live at Lawnton in 1977. There used to be a small airtrip down the road.

    That old “Logging Winch” in an old skidder which would have been towed behind a dozer when snogging logs out of the scrub.

    I've been up and down the 'goat track' during the previous two decades, in both a car and motorcycle....was a two way route to start with for a long time... always had to be alert when approaching the blind corners for oncoming traffic... nowadays its one way (uphill only)...
    Shirley Strahan from 'Skyhooks' 70s rock band fame, also crashed into the D'Aguilar range some 20 years ago during a helicopter flight...which he was piloting
    Unfortunately, he was killed on impact...it was determined that a pressure wave of air coming over the top of the range from the other side during gusty wind conditions.... flipped the helicopter over, losing all flight control and rotor lift...there is a memorial plaque at the crash site apparently...
    Sorry John, cannot recall the crash location whereabouts for a possible follow up...

    • @jelbuilderfilms
      @jelbuilderfilms  Місяць тому +1

      I'll have to try that goat track sometime. It's interesting you mention Shirley... it's on my list to locate his wreck as it's a mystery location. I've got a fair idea where to explore to find it, and probably will do it in October. It's worth putting the crash site on the radar as it's a sad incident involving a celebrity, but at the same time a mystery why he was flying there and how indeed the crash occurred. Hopefully I'm successful and can locate it.... We'll see🤞

    • @LesWakeham
      @LesWakeham Місяць тому

      I recall reading that Shirley was gaining hours 'pilot in command' after having been signed off with his license to fly solo...he hadn't been trained in flight by a flight instructor flying close to hills / mountains at altitude
      Probably knew the theory about doing such an activity, yet no practical experience... Shirl may have got curious spotting something on the range, then decided to go for a closer look... then the unfortunate happened
      He was just hitting his straps on the DIY TV shows of that era, his personality and the camera were a good fit, even back to when he was performing with the Hooks...

    I once did the goat track at night in a VW Golf, was told it was easy enough, by the time I realised I was in for a ride I was already halfway through. I’ve done the hike to Kobble Creek a number of times, beautiful part of the world there.

    There used to be a bower from a Bowerbird on that track. The catbird is a variety of Bowerbird. The plane is actually upside down on its roof. Look forward to the bush bashing video 😄

      Unfortunately I don't think lyrebirds are found in this area. You're right though about the bowerbird as the call is from a green catbird; the only bowerbird that doesn't build a bower.
