      I think its mostly because of the collar. The side cuts were cute, the cut sleeves were normal. It was just that floppy v-neck. On the black shirt she did it on it looked good.

      For me, if i were to do this way, i will add another fabric for the bottom part. I think it will look good after that. For the neck, maybe make it just a v shape neck(idk what it is called)

      This is meant to up size T Shirts, which aren't meant to be pretty. I do this to my old shirts and wear them working out, or when I have marching band practice. There were also 2 designs in this video that weren't tank tops, and you would know if you watched the whole video😒.

    For the FOB anchor shirt, I would have used thread that matched the design or sewn it on a contrasting color just so it looked more intentional. And for the one where you added a side panel, I also would have done contrasting fabric just because I'm a wild card I guess? I love the dolman sleeve idea though! It looks so comfy.

    • @hatorigirl1202

    • @MaryAnnNytowl
      @MaryAnnNytowl Рік тому +1

      Oh, I LOVE shopping thrift stores! There's a $1 rack at the one I go to when I have a once-a-month doctor visit, and I've found some fantastic stuff there! Besides, I'm only now learning to sew - have avoided it like the plague since I was 16, and a 2-week trial at a coat factory had every single machine kicking my arse!
      But, times change - drastically, sometimes, and you end up needing a new hobby to keep your mind off of ... stuff. My son spotted a decent Singer on clearance (nearly 50% off!, my kinda sale!), for Mother's Day for me, since he knew I'd been considering trying the new hobby.
      Aaaaanyway, long story a bit shorter, I love getting stuff for $1 each, so if I wreck what I'm making from it, well... it can always be cleaning rags or something. 😂
      I've found great canvas, khaki, and denim pants to turn into nice, big tote/grocery bags, and a pair of shorts with beautiful pockets donated them to the lovely Harley Davidson (!!!) shorts I'm turning into a smallish purse/bag for myself!
      I've also found enough gigantic dress shirts to make some lightweight cotton quilt-like things (NOT filled or anything to make them warm/heavy, just a light, pretty, one of a kind cover) including matching pillowcases. It's not quite done, but I found a beautiful midnight blue sheet on clearance at a corporafascist store that shall remain nameless which I will use as the back for my summer quilt/cover/whatchamacallit. 😊
      So... new hobby, newly begun sewing, no desire to waste good money on a project that could go south really quickly, I've always loved great bargains, anyway, AND I can sometimes find crocheted/knitted stuff I can get dead cheap yarn to reuse, too. 😁 That, alone, saves me probably a hundred bucks a year, and if I crocheted faster, that would be even higher. 😂
      All of this novella to say - never pass by a clearance rack or thrift store - and definitely always check the thrift store clearance!

    I think for some of these you might as well go the extra mile and make them more interesting. When you sew the old shirt design on the new shirt, maybe outline it with the primary color of the design, and for the band, go for a contrasting color or even a mesh!

I thought using a black tshirt batwings and resize my top that was too tight, but added the extra material to my grey colored tshirt. There is a tipe of washing detergent that has black color in it that you can use on things that are completly black. it recolors them a little. It last for about 6 months I belive. after the clothes are clean put your makine back on but with out anny ting in ti to get ridd of extra die, if not it might color your whites grey. other tips is to turn black pants the inside out when washing, only washing black clothes with black clothes, and lastly never ever wash black clothes with detergent ment for white clothes, these detergent often contain some sort of bleech to make your white clothes extra white, so don't use that on black. I haven't tried the spesial detergent for black get my self, as I keep forgetting to ask for it at my local store, but the other things I know work, and I have a friend that uses that detergent and her black pants stay black for what seems like forever.

The other one was slightly too small for me, and I'm 5'2. I hated to throw these shirts away, so I'm going to use the patch technique to sew the Dungeons & Dragons design onto larger shirts.

    for the second technique, you could use a shirt of a different color and it would add a cute detail when you raise your arms!

    For the second shirt, I feel like it's a waste if you have to cut up another shirt to add extra fabric to the first....buuut! Considering that shirt is more of an edgy style, I thought it'd be cool if you made the cuts from the bottom to the armholes and then did a criss-cross (almost cage like) design with some embroidery floss/faux leather cords. I dunno, I thought it'd look cool with that top and you wont have to use another shirt to upsize it :)

    I am actually an aspiring designer, and I want to start sewing and designing early! What is the best sewing machine for me? I am a complete beginner, and I want something that can last and I can take into college. I am looking for a machine that can grow as I grow. (Price Range: 80-200 dollars.) Thank you!

    • @c0ttage
      @c0ttage 8 років тому +7

      Brother sewing machines are pretty cheap and durable as long as you clean it fairly often and use it! I can't emphasize that enough, taking long breaks can make the machine collect dirt and dust and the extra practice will make you a better sewer! Depending on where you get it from you can also get a year or two warranties.

      Try the Brother xr 9500 prw machine, the Brother CS 6000i, or the Brother, or the Brother CS5055 prw. I have the first one and it is great but it has a TON of stiches that I simply do not need. For a beginner I would go for something with an automatic threading system (which I'm pretty sure all 3 machines have) because it makes you're life so much easier oh my. It's also important to have an option for presser feet because they allow you to do certain types of stiches, but you will mostly only need the basic one for regalar zigzag and straight stiches. If you don't want to buy a serger however (a serger is a special machine that finishes/binds raw edges for a professional look) an overcast presser foot is very important because it mimics the effect. Also it's not really that crucial that you have an electronic/computerized machine because sometimes you are paying for features that you don't necessarily need. These machine range from like $120 to 180 on amazon by the way!! Hope this helps and good luck on your sewing journey!!

      I'm a beginner and I got the brother LS14 machine for Christmas two years ago and it still works like new, there is only basic stitches like straight, zig-zag and buttonhole though. Hope this helped

      The experts say buy the most expensive machine you can afford. If you are going for design work, you will one day learn about all the stitches on your machine and you will definitely use them. I didn't think I would at first, but now I use so many of those stitches and so many different feet, I wouldn't know what to do if I had a "basic" machine.

    the first one destroys the t shirt the second
    one is basicly "Add fabric" the 3rd one just transferres the design to another full intact t shirt whilst destroying the original tshirt and the 4th one again is "add fabric"
    i am more than disappointed in this video

    Most of the T shirts fitted the model better before the changes. These hacks were unflattering and made her look fatter than when the T short was the right size before you started. Sorry but true.
