      I think the only reason I may have had any negative feelings about it was because it had been anticipated and hyped up for so long. I've been wanting to buy a GR Yaris for a long time so when we got something somewhat similar to it here in the states it was very hyped. Overall though, I'm impressed with the car in all departments besides power + road feel. But that's just how most modern sports cars are unfortunately. Thanks for watching!

      @@murk4545 it’s a 1.6 3 cylinder you will have to rev it out. But in a quarter mile the GR Corolla beats the type r and in 0 to 60 the GR wins too at 4.9 seconds it’s because it’s AWD.

      @@kaoriisdriving you might feel a little bit of lag in the throttle as the car makes 26 pounds of boost from factory that is all spooled by only 3 cylinders!

      @@kottysimpson psi is relevant. One turbos 10psi can make more horsepower than another turbos 30psi. So the fact that it does have 26psi factory probably means it’s a small turbo

    • @kottysimpson
      @kottysimpson 21 день тому +1

      @@kaoriisdriving I don't quite understand what you mean, many factors change the horsepower made vs the amount of boost created and utilized, the gr corolla has a very bad heat soak issue so maybe using less boost from factory may have been better but they would have had to greatly mess with timing to regain the same horsepower if it would be even possible, the best solution with what was given is an intercooler and ethonal blend, this mitigates heat soak entirely and the ethonal reduces knock which the sensors in this engine are very responsive to allowing more boost.

    I think you felt the way you did because you don't know the car. You spent a short time with it on a road that wasn't that inspiring to drive. This car was meant to be driven hard and fast on back roads and it will do it all day long and put a smile on your face. I just took my GR Corolla on a 5300 mile road trip, mostly on back roads, and it was amazing. It's very easy to keep in the power band where there is no turbo lag and it will pull without issue. I took it to the top of Pike's Peak at 14115' and she never even cared about the elevation. Also an FYI, the suspension doesn't change in any mode but the steering does in Sport Mode. The chassis is also different than the standard Corolla. It's based on a standard Corolla but there are a lot more chassis welds and extra adhesives. I find that the car has a lot of character and the more I drive it the more fun it is. One short drive can't do it justice at all. One owner is a professional rally race driver and he has told me how amazing the GRC is. There is another owner near me that is a professional Porsche driver that trains people to drives a Porsche and he owns one and loves it. These are examples mom people that know how to drive and how to get the most out of a car so I take their experience with a lot of weight. And I'll keep on enjoying mine with every mile too! 😍
    Thanks for your thoughts.

      I can definitely attest to it driving great, my main gripe was the turbo & pedal delay. I shoot these reviews from the eyes of the every day enthusiast & I drive on realistic "every day" roads (thats all we got on Long Island lol). So while I'm sure this car feels great on a track, I want to give my thoughts on how it does on a day-to-day basis on common roads. Thanks for the advice! I really do wish I did some more homework on this review, there are some cool facts & features I missed the mark on

    • @jimsgaragetoys
      @jimsgaragetoys 11 днів тому

      @@kaoriisdriving I don't track mine at all and I don't think it's the best track car either. I think it's best on back roads, canyons and in the mountains as that's where it shines. When driving in those situations it's very easy to keep the RPMs 3-4k range and I never notice any lag at all, and here are every day roads. Now when driving around other traffic and in the city I don't care as much as I'll just go with the flow of traffic and it will easily stay with the pack. It's too bad you don't have more exciting roads to drive near you so you can really see what the car can do, that would require a drive to upstate NY.

    A few people have been disappointed with the performance of the GR Corolla. Nemtec UA-cam channel showed how the OEM transmission collars in the transmission are poorly designed Hubs and 2nd & 5th gear are Weak...
    They recommended PPG straight cut gears or CUSCO Reinforced Transmission Clutch Hubs or a Sequential transmission...
    They also talked about front differential is smaller than the Rear Differential, which causes slipping and heating.
    Another Expensive fix...Yet they have 3 GR Corolla Hatchbacks. 😂😂😂

    I have my eye on these. Have to drive one because it woukd be a dad car replacement for a much more powerful sports car. You mentioned the Golf R. That's such a frustrating car for me. In terms of packaging, options, and performance, I think it's a great value. I just don't know if I could buy one for similar reasons you gave about the Corolla. It's just so plain and boring looking. It's not an ugly car by any means, but there's no flair to it compared to the Type R or GRC. And the fact that blue is the color accent is personal. Bummer for me. Not a fan

      @@gabea.458 totally valid points honestly. The Golf R has no personality, but man it’s such a better sports car if you’re looking for speed. If I were you, getting a dad car, I might pick the Corolla over the golf R just out of it feeling more like a tuner car. The R is sophisticated and mature, but the GR is fun and exciting (in my opinion). Also- the problems I had with the GR can pretty easily be fixed with a tune or a pedal commander. Some folks are making 500whp on these motors unopened. Hope you find the right car for you !!

However, I will give credit where its due and if someone really wanted a fun little manual hatch with some sport to it, the Corolla XSE is actually a decent little car for a low price (of the new cars).
