Lots of money for a plastic receiver....I agree. Have a 16 and 17. My 18" DD5 came with a G trigger and is very accurate suppressed. My 17 also is awesome suppressed.
Tripod shooting is an art unto itself. Most guys I’ve worked with don’t understand all the critical nuances you must pay attention to. The importance of good quality/ well designed equipment makes a huge difference. The HOG Saddle is good quality. But the rubber lining in the jaws allows a degree of flex or movement. If you have Pic rail on the bottom you can use a RRS Pic rail adapter. It clamps onto the rail, and interfaces directly with the tripod head. That eliminates one point of movement in your set up. I replaced the stock assembly on my Scar 17 with a KDG ACR stock with metal hinge. The hinge has a set screw in the back of it. When you tighten it, it applies pressure to the lower receiver eliminating all play. The down side is that if you want to disassemble your rifle you need to have an Allen wrench to loosen the set screw. Based on what he’s saying about play between the upper and lower someone ought to design the mounting bracket on the stock with a set screw similar to KDG’s design.
I know there was an aluminum lower available for the 17. I had thought it was just to make it more robust but maybe one for the 20 couid help with rigidity.

Very nice review. I recently bought an AI AT308 w/ SB Ultra Short. At first, I was second guessing my purchase given the gravitation (of some) from bolt guns to semi-autos for precision work. However, your video clears things up in that the 20S is not an exact substitute for a precision bolt gun - in terms of accuracy. I wonder if the HK MR762A1 w/16.5 bbl would make a better choice to fill the gap between LR bolt gun and the 556...engaging targets 400-600m whilst still being able to use for close quarter situations? Thanks for you help.
Great minds think alike. Our team runs two systems. Bolt guns for longer range, or when absolute precision is the order of the day. LMT 308MWS’s for closer ranges, or we might need multi shot engagements, on multi targets. I haven’t had the privilege of test driving the HK MR762, or KAC M110. But I’m sure they are suitable performers. The FBI guys are running Larue OBR’s and sound pretty happy with them. My LMT is a MARS-H. I have a 13 inch light weight stainless barrel pinned and welded with a Surefire flash suppressor on it. Running that with the SOCOM RC 762 can, it will hold MOA out to 600 yards. My scope is bit much right now. So I’m going to replace it this spring with something more practical. It’s a Vortex Razor HDII 4.5x27. I plan on switching to either a SB Ultra Short 3x20, or ZCO 4x20. I also run a FN SCAR 17 with the barrel cut back, pinned and welded with the Surefire flash suppressor on it. So I can switch my SOCOM RC762 to it. The scope is a Leupold MK6 3x18. So it’s pretty well scaled to the rifle. The only thing I don’t like about the scope is the min range parallax setting is 75 yards. And I’ve been forced by terrain to be as close as 21 yards to the target. I swapped out the trigger with a Geissele, and PMM safety’s and Bolt release. PMM also did the barrel work. Cutting it back, and replacing the jet so it’s properly gassed. That’s a nice light weight DM rifle you could do CQB with if you had to. Much lighter than the other AR-10 style systems. But it’s a 1.5 MOA rifle.
@@TwoGreenDots Yep. They are hard on optics. If you run cheap stuff it will kill it. I don’t run cheap optics. I run a KDG ACR stock on mine and haven’t had an issue with it. If you want an accurate lighter weight and more maneuverable weapon it’s a good choice. If youre going to be shooting prone most of the time then get a KAC 110A1, or LMT 308MWS, or MARS-H. The nice thing about the LMT’s is you can switch barrels easily, and switch calibers when you do. The down side is finding barrels due to the fact that most of their production goes to foreign military contracts.

There’s no way you’re feeling flex in the weapon, the plastic part of the receiver your talking about sees no recoil, it just houses the trigger and mag well. All of the recoil is directly in line from the barrel to the heavy aluminum stock. As far as the accuracy, maybe a different ammo would be a good move. I have the scar 20 and a KAC SR25 APC. Both are equally accurate. The kac was doing 1.5 -1.75 moa with 168gr ammo. Changed to 185gr and hits 1 moa or better. The scar 20 seems to do as well as kac but with more variety of ammo, it’s just not as picky as the knights armament.
Something no one is talking about. This is about a 4k rifle and comes with the ability to toggle to a suppressor setting right from the factory. Here is the shitty part, if you shoot this rifle in the suppressed setting and or shoot it also suppressed or remove the muzzle break, FN voids your warranty. As ‘MAC’ (Military Arms Channel) has said, there’s not enough difference between the 17s and the 20 to qualify the even THEN jump in $1K price tag. Sure a LITTLE extra length in barrel..not much, more real estate with the extended handguard, and probably the best ‘factory’ add-on that’s not proprietary FN..the Super SCAR trigger.
