I couldn't agree with your 1 pick. The mazda CX-5 is a great crossover. Mazda is really stepping up into the market and they are taking full-swing. Kudos to them for doing so. Great job mazda!
The Mitsubishi Outlander Sport is the best value for the money. Not sure how it did not make it onto that list. It might not be fast, but good room, good build quality (built in Normal, Illinois) and excellent fuel efficiency. We drove ours from North Texas to Calgary, Canada and back averaging 32 mpg.
If power is an issue there's a 3.6 for the Outback and a 2.5 Turbo for the Forester. There's no shortage of boxer 2.5 and "H" 3.9 Outback's drifting in deep snow and hill climbing. The XT is lil hot rod in comparison to similar offerings in the CUV market (especially when you consider tunability for those so inclined). Not saying they're the best but they don't lack in any category at street legal speeds.
While I think this list is a little... odd to say the least, the Mazda CX-5 has win numerous crossover comparisons from many different outlets, and now that the engine is a bit more peppy, it's even more enticing a car in the segment. You may not like it, but there seem to be a lot of others who do, so it topping a list isn't out of the ordinary.
Test drove the CX5 and the Mazda6, bought the 6. Why? Car handled and performed great, but my 3 previous vehicles were trucks. I wanted something different, something less utilitarian. Cannot go wrong with it, has same drivetrain as in my 6 and l am getting 33.5 mpg. I can recommend it highly.
Just took a test drive in a Mazda CX-5. The leather passenger seat reminded me of a school bus seat. I slid around when turning a corner even with my seatbelt on. I had to brace myself so I wouldn't do a face plant into the passenger window even on light cornering. The seat bolsters were terrible. Not something you want if you have spine problems. If seat comfort is important the Rouge or CR-V is much better choice. RAV-4 is good if you would prefer to die in a head on crash.
No way the CRV should be so low on the list, and where's the Escape. The CRV is the best selling crossover followed by the Escape. Those two are undoubtedly the benchmarks. The Rav4 and CRV invented the segment.

That subaru "wagon" as idiots call it, happens to be one of the most reliable vehicles subaru has made. Ford Escape prob isnt on there because its a ford and has had recalls that owners claim set the car on fire. Maybe u should test drive these cars then give your opinion. I agree, Every single review praises mazda cx5. Mazda must be paying these reviewers. I drove cx5 after reading all these positive reviews and wasnt impressed at all. Ride was rough and suv was noisy and slow on acceleration.
What happen with the Ford Escape, did not even made the list? Also, it looked like this was mesh of old and new models and not the current crop. For instance the RAV4 shown is the previous generation. Finally the Outback is more of a raised station wagon and not a CUV in my humble opinion.
Wow! How cheap cars are in USA. Here in Indonesia a base model of CX5 costs US$42,000 and the top model about US$45,000. And a base model of BMW X1 costs US$55,000 and its top model costs about US$75,000. If i would've been living in the US i should have been driving atleast an X5.
My dad bought the mazda cx 5 and I think it was a great picked...We purchased the top of the line full package factory AWD Skyactiv and I drove it and it feels heavenly...but cant wait to get my mazda mx 5 convertible...

yea but it lacks with mpg and has a CVT. Nissan claims that a CVT is the best transmission in the world for fuel economy and performance son why is Nissan not have any leading mpg with it vehicles. It has the Nissan altima but also Mazda has its Mazda 6 with a regular 6 speed transmission and it get the same mpg.also the altima has problems with it cvt.

My 2014 Mercedes GLK SUV Turbo Diesel gets 32 mpg in the city and 39-43mpg on the road. Eat my dust!
