I did circus as a kid, I was lucky and the old gym teacher was a retired circus master.
He would teach to about 60 students a handful of skills each, it was like a club of sorts.
At the end of the year, he put on a full 1h show with professional gear! And other schools would be invited to be the audience.
I can still juggle basketballs, or hold a pole on my chin, finger or toe. I also did spinning plates walking on barrels, but I haven’t had the opportunity to do it in years.
The guys name was Bernard and the show was called Cirquart.

Btw, the guy putting his hand in boiling oil... Usually they would dip their hands in cold oil first, then they can stick their fingers in there without getting burnt.
Not cold oil, that will make the hot oil cling to your hand and keep burning when you take it out!!!
They use cold water. The water on your hand evaporates and the vapor barrier keeps your hands from burning. Leidenfrost effect.

I'm busy with my master's degree, why don't you educate yourself a try a little experiment yourself. If ur against proper experimentation theres a "Mythbusters" episode regarding the same effect but with molten lead. It was confirmed

@@zilaz I have played it a bit, but that's not actually what my mtg is referring to. Back in the early and mid 2000's a friend of mine had started an online group for Milwaukee based gamers. Milwaukee is also referred to as "Mill Town", so the group was "Mill Town Gamers". We ended up having people from all over the world though, as there weren't that many others in Milwaukee that we'd run in to back then. That was back in the days of the original xbox, ps2, and a few pc titles like Ultima Online, so the group has long since disbanded. My account is old enough to preceed google owning youtube, so I still have the name from a relic of the old internet. All the other original members from the group are either dead, in prison or have otherwise drifted away into obscurity. Only I remain, languishing on as an echo of the past.

Averaging about a thousand new subs a month seems to me.
Well, I've been subscribed ever since his channel was called Jared Rydelek, and he had less than 5,000 subs. I think that the first video of his I've seen was also his first video about rare bananas. Four years later, and it's still one of the rare channels I watch pretty much every video the moment I see it's up.
I looked up my subscription history, it was Jan 5, 2016, prior to that in 2015, I was searching by "weird fruit explorer" to view the videos. His name was always known in the about page. I think I watched from ep40+ which was 2014? His first banana ep was 75.
A lot of lesser channels with not original contents are hitting few 100k to millions, "subscribe and hit that bell button" Nope.
@@llcc77 I think that "weird fruit explorer" was in the title of the videos, but the channel's name was ''Jared Rydelek''. I think he changed it somewhere in the 2017.
I'd love to see more stuff about your contortionist stuff and sideshows on this channel, weird stories and all that or just interesting facts about that realm of entertainment!
Surprised that you chose to train in China. I used to hear how extremely tough it was from Jackie Chan and he trained from childhood.
I have enjoyed your Cabinet of Curiosities videos. And I really like that you had a little bit of your background and what you do outside of fruit exploring. You're a great storyteller, which is an art. Keep up the good work! I always enjoy your fruit videos too.

Thanks for sharing your story.. Made a change from your fruit eating videos.. I imagine there are lots of people like myself that were curious about where you started with the fruit exploring.. I'm 54 and going on my first adventure overseas.. I'm wondering if I'll get the travel bug too.. I'm heading to Scotland with my samba band (one week from now), and we're playing at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.. For me this is something HUGE.. And it being my first overseas trip too.. Thanks again for sharing your story.. I suppose its always good taking oneself out of our comfort zones and seeing how others get on with their lives..

Animal traps and Chinese circus school: there is no magic in it, only pain. 😂You are more wonderful every video! Actually the wonder is "you" already and I am just glad to be seeing your interesting stories. I love how you include the challenging parts as well as the victories. And you never stop exploring! PS I had heard the scallion pancakes were generally good street food, there might be other vendors with better ingredients. I love that you tried that guys pancakes. I enjoyed going to a little shop in Japan that served giant veggie pancakes. Near the end of my time there I took my aunt to have a pancake and as we watched tv we began to realize, the screen was covered in crawling cockroaches😰😂 still ate our food, why not? We were half way through. There was a nearby volcano that left piles of Ash here and there. The relaxed and Casual rats would sit on the little Ash piles and warm their paws in the Sun watching people walk by. The sidewalk was plates of cement placed over an open sewer. It's really really good for young people to travel and get an idea of what other countries and cultures experience in their day to day life. I bet if you went to China today it would be like a different country. My son's friend just moved there for business. His Instagram stories are absolutely Wild with the glitz and glamour; Shanghai makes Chicago look like a Backwater. Although I guess the industrial areas tucked away out of sight might still be the same. I heard a Chinese lady sharing her disappointment in visiting New York because it was old and not brand new like so many Chinese cities that have just been manufactured. People have it tough all over the world but there’s something about a guy making animal traps out of trash while a few hundred kilometres away thousands of those same traps are probably being made in a factory with very little effort that is particularly upsetting.
Backpacked through China in 2011. Enjoyed your story and pictures, brought me back to my time there. I’m sure you would probably agree, mainland China is a great place to visit once.

This is great, tense
Your animal trap is usually used to trap fur bearing animals, mink, muskrat, ferrets and so on. I worked for my cousin who ran several trap lines. Those traps are not catch and release traps. They are meant to kill or maim the animal without damaging the hide. They come in the size you showed to huge “bear” traps. The traps are controversial because they are anything but gentle and a trapped animal is often in pain and fully and completely “trapped” until the trapper returns a few days later to dispatch it (and take its hide).
What a treat, thanks for showing us a bit more of what it is to be you, and it occursto me that Contorted Explorer would be a good channel name for you, and it means the same thing.
I dont like animal traps much at all, so it took me a while to click on this one, but i really did enjoy the story and usually always enjoy your posts!

I was in China from 2009 to 2016. The depressing school was so typical of that era in China.
About those traps, my dog got caught by one like the first big one. Front paw. I didn't know how to get it off so i carried Bucky dog and trap into town and to the house where i figured the trap owner lived. He removed the trap and they asked me to stay for dinner. The dog limped for a few days but otherwise unharmed.
That title caught me off guard

@@nattyk4544 i used to be EDS until 2017.. now i'm technically GHSD. unfortunately i didn't find out until i was well into adulthood so i did all the terrible things i'm not supposed to 😂 i always just said i was "very flexible" or had "loose joints" and enjoyed my party tricks. ..starting to pay for that now tho 😅
I carry the gene for hypermobility inherited fro one of my grandmothers and six of my sisters have it to varying degrees. Three of them were gymnasts. One was a gymnast/dancer. My daughter and son also have hypermobility. My teenaged son could place the sole of one foot flat on the back of his head while standing flatfooted on the other foot! After seeing that I begged him to never do that again. My daughter inherited a back problem from her father and having such loose tendons caused her a lot of problems as a child. One thing that stood out among these relatives is that seven out of eight of them are very graceful. They move like willows waving in the breeze. My daughter is a natural dancer. As for me, my mobility was average. I would love to be a bit more flexible.
I have a feeling you're going to be a super star one day soon... and I think you're grounded enough to make it work. Really interesting video. The contortion is what I'd like to see more of, maybe the type of tennis racquet you use haha?

You'd be surprised how tough the fingers of a cook or baker can be.
Doesn't shock me that the guy could dip his fingers in oil and be alright.
After a while, your fingers get calloused up enough that you can deal with it all.

For shows you can weaken the spring by cutting it on the sides.
My favourite story about these traps its about a fox that caught his leg and he chose to die free not killed by the hunter next day and he cuts his leg leaving it in the trap.

I was in group called Body Art Daredevils with my ex-husband from age 18-22 or so, until 2005 I think? We all worked in the tattoo industry so we worked the tattoo convention circuit doing suspensions, cheek spears, fire blowing/eating, concrete block & brass weight hanging, nail beds, glass & firewalking, truck pulling, etc. when I was 22 I started working local shows with Sideshow Bennie then with a less active group because I had kids. I had no idea why I was able to fold my body the way I could until my kids and I were diagnosed with EDS, but I totally exploited that for monetary gain while I could. Haha. I’m 35 now and haven’t done a show in a loooong time, but I miss it sometimes! I’ve been watching your videos for forever, and had no idea this was your thing too. You’re living my dream for real with the fruit exploration. Keep it up dude, your channel is the most underrated thing on UA-cam. 👌🏼

That larger trap is intended to catch coyotes and wolves ,the smaller one is the size used for bobcats and raccoons

Maybe I missed it. But you could do a series on conifer fruit like juniper berries. In Switzerland there is syrup made from juniper berries called Wacholder Latwerge. It’s a unique flavor I grew up with. The syrup on bread with butter and some hot cocoa. If you try it, enjoy!
I'm in Finland now and they seem to use juniper here.. haven't seen it at markets, but will keep an eye out for juniper products.
I've already been setting steel traps like that for years, I have a few of my grandpa's mink traps hanging in my shop, and I would never stick my hand in one of those they have sharp teeth and I like to keep my hands in working order!😂

I keep thinking about what those Chinese students were going through... Sometimes becoming aware of such pain in the world is just. Indescribable. I wish I knew how to push towards a world where that isn't necessary, where people don't feel like it's necessary. I guess the only thing I can keep doing right now is trying to be kind and give what I can.

The small one is deffinitly a rabbit trap, I'm not sure about the larger one but it's probably also a rabbit trap, raccoons are actually smart enough to open the trap and escape.
