You see it happen more often online, a muscle tear. It even happened to one of the world’s strongest men last week.
I had no idea how much this injury impacts your life until this happened to a friend of mine:
Bob, he tore off his bicep and it impacted his life in every single way. And also his body, he lost a lot of muscle.
I’m going to experience this injury for a day, to see how it impacts my life and my body.
I think we debunked the 5% a day?

I broke my ankle and it was absolutely horrible. Moving a heavy cast while being in so much pain sucks. Sleep was impossible. I also had to give myself injections of blood thinners so I didn’t get a blood clot form in my leg. Injury really sucks so thank you for trying it out for a day and trying to understand how it feels.

Thanks for shedding light on this. I have a SLAP tear, 4/6 segments of my labrum in the shoulder are completely torn and severed. Basically my arm is dislocated on the inside. And I've gained too much weight to be happy with 😔 I have surgery this Friday and then I'm getting back on that grind 💪
Injuries do happen, and when they do its totally okay and to be expected to lose your physique and gain a few pounds. What's important is focusing on healing and healing well so you can get back to the grind when you're all better.

Broke my arm 6 months ago , had to get surgery and insert bar and screws , having a broken arm and walking with it to the hospital might have been the worst experience of pain I’ve indured . Ive go back to working out 2 months ago ( I’ve been working out for almost 2 years ) and the damage that was done made me devastated, I now look so bad my physique is messed up , increased body fat , lost allot of muscle but I’m glad and thanked god for giving me another chance and keeping my arm , and even if I’m now not as good as before I will keep going

My initial reaction to your video was pretty much horrid...later this video made me think about my own journey of fitness while I was in the recovering after contracting serious illness- 2 months in ICU. I barely could lift my legs or move...I was doing very basic workouts a step literally at a time. It is absolutely crucial to listen to your body and shift your focus on your recovery rather then fearing of losing muscles or getting obese. This was an inspiring video to watch like always. I had to have the large biceps tendon on my right arm cut, wired through a bone, stretched and tied to a titanium anchor drilled deep into my clavicle just last august.
That was not a very fun experience, as I had to have that same cast and could not use the arm for almost three months. Everything was hard and scary.
But now the pain is gone, I can do more pull-ups than I ever could in my entire life (turns out I had this injury for almost 15 years) and I am back to bouldering and obstacle course racing!
What I want to say is: Thanks for making this video! And everyone, be nice to yourself and try to stay healthy.

This reminded me of the surgery I had 3 years ago, left shoulder slap tear type 3 and Bicep tenodesis... And it was a nightmare for 6 months in bed as you showed in the video and worse... I lost close to 20 kg and my arm became as thin as my wrist... Now 3 years later I can do 15 pull-ups and 30 dips but I'm far from what I used to do... But if this happen to you never give up!

Another important thing to avoid muscle tears is that they often happen when the muscle is at its most stretched, so at the bottom of a one-arm pull-up with your arm fully straight, or at the start of a bicep curl (I've heard preacher curls are especially problematic and lead to many such injuries), or at the bottom of a bench press, especially if you do them with elbows flared (which also isn't good for your shoulders btw). So I would assume to minimize risks it's important to do all the steps the guys mentioned in the video and to maybe include a negative or something similar before attempting a heavier weight or harder bodyweight progression from fully straight arms or where your muscles and tendons are stretched very far.

Honestly, I know bob personally from the gym and I think its pretty safe to say that he was never on gear at all.
I know some people who lost way more muscle by not working out and they werent even injured (and get everything back within 3 months).
Imagine doing zero upper body training for 3 months! Not training for 3 months and still using your upper body in your daily life is completely different from being injured.
Being close to your natural peak takes a lot more to maintain than when you are half way there.
Also I think its funny that a guy like Greg knows how a natural body works in the first place 😂

It was at least three years before I would ever push my legs again. And now, a decade later, I can go all out again, but I'd be lying if I said it wasn't in the back of my mind.
Up until that point, I had no conception of just how bad muscle tears can be. Broken Bones, concussions, cuts, whiplash...none of it had the impact on my body that a torn muscle does

If you want to go with this at least level higher - I had arm joint reconstruction.
As for example sleeping - 90 degree on elbow and on arm - so your hand is pointing towards ceiling for whole nigth. You cannot even correctly cover up if it's cold ;]
It could be boring through because a lot of activities from this video not possible (even if you forget about amount of pain).
    Good video.

As someone who has a tumor on my right arm and has most movement limited with it, this video really shows the limitation I live with.... I have managed to reach a decent level of fitness regardless of my disability.

I have experienced a tear before, but it was a hamstring tear. I've had it for 5 months since February, but this summer, I'm healed and ready to get back!

I had the same, tore my hamstring in dance. Took months to fully recover and still, years later, it’ll hurt if I move it the wrong way

I've once broken my arm and after a month of not being able to move it at all it looked like a raisin and it was really hard to recover, I'm glad it wasn't worse

At the moment i have my shoulder injured. In the first week it looked exactly the same as you show. Now i have no problems with it anymore and it probably is far less irritating.

Just recently tore my bicep in late May. Fully recovered now. Even the bicep is coming back again. It was the worst injury ever. I kept working out until late July. I just stopped lifting weights and tried rehabbing it by playing sports like basketball. Surprisingly enough, basketball helped me get better. I tore my left bicep and that's my dominant side. Basketball really helped me get my strength and supination back in that arm. Now I can lift heavy weights and do calisthenics with no problem again. I don't experience random cramps or tweaks. No surgery or physio is required! Just stop lifting for awhile and play sports instead.
