Debunking BAD Batman: Arkham fan theories -

  • I've been HAUNTED by a video that Knerd made, collecting a series of fan theories surrounding the Batman: Arkham game series, and I've finally been pushed over the edge to say something about it. You see, unlike a couple of other videos he made that I genuinely appreciate, this one was... worse. Some of the theories were firmly "okay," and one was genuinely convincing, but several were frustrating and infuriatingly inconsistent with the source material. Here is my response to Knerd's "10 Batman Arkham Theories that will BLOW YOUR MIND." Consider me unblown.
    Chapters:

    4:27 The "Bad Blood" theory

    14:48 The "New Batman" theory
16:14 The "Anarky Got Chomped" theory
    17:51 The "Shiva Bereave-a" theory
20:15 The "Batman wasn't literally the Joker, baybee" theory
26:51 The "Harley Got Fetus Deletus-ed" theory
28:15 The theory so offensively lazy I refuse to give it any due
29:38 The unintentional "Shrödinger's Bat" theory
35:25 The "Joker's UNCONVENTIONAL Desire" theory

Hey man, just wanted to say great video and I respect your take on a lot of this stuff.
As you know, I tried to throw in things like "I don't believe this theory" or "I don't think this is what was intended" multiple times because I wasn't taking these theories very seriously for the most part. This was more of a way for me to compile some theories that I found INTERESTING, not FACTUAL (even though I'm aware I treated them as factual at points while trying to explain them, that's on me😬), that might offer some different perspectives, or a new way to look at the Arkham games for players and fans. That's also kind of why I brushed over a lot of the plot holes; *I wasn't actually trying to prove these theories right for the most part, I was merely explaining the arguments that were made by the original creator of each theory to, again, offer some different perspectives.*
And yes, as you mentioned, there were definitely a lot of moments to pick apart as far as my script. This was actually my first full video with this style of scripting, and yeah, most of these weren't even my own theories that I was trying to explain, so I guess I misspoke on what I truly meant to get across at times (hence, "Jason was never the bad guy", "This is the only way to explain it", etc...)
There's definitely some stuff that I disagree with and I feel like I could defend some of these theories, but at the end of the day they were just interesting things to share for entertainment purposes and I'd rather not spend more time on theories that I (mostly) didn't even come up with in the first place. Anyways, as a fellow creator I wish you the best of luck, seems like you work really hard to put out high quality content which I respect the hell out of

Thanks for your in-depth reply! I would love to hear feedback from you on this: my goal was to highlight my issues with general ideas while making it as clear as possible that none of it was supposed to be personal against you. Did that end up coming across clearly enough? Since this is my first response like this, I wasn’t sure exactly how that would come across to others.
Regardless of my complaints here, I genuinely think you are doing a great job with your content. The editing is clean and punchy, you do a good job covering content at a good speed without it being overwhelmingly quick, your voiceover is clean, clear, and charismatic, and I truly loved your other two videos I’ve watched so far, which are both S-Tier content. Keep up the good work!

@@BaneShake I definitely didn't take it personally, the majority of the time it felt like you were really just trying to target the theories themselves. So yes I would say that that came across clearly enough.
Also, I just wanted to say that I appreciate the kind words!

@BaneShake Didn't ask me, but I feel like the opinion of a third party is warranted. I believe that you did I good job on emphasizing that this response wasn't an attack on Knerd but debunking the theories that were in the other Video. You did mention the third guy who sent hate for the bad blood video, I don't think it was necessary, but if it was bugging you I think it's fair, also good for not saying his name. I'm not caught up in the drama, nor will I, but if it was Clwn you should have edited the name out in my opinion

The whole blood toxin taking longer for Joker than it does for Batman thing does make sense if you think about it, Joker has had the toxin get worse and worse across a year, and by the time Batman gets the blood transfusion he gets the worst current state of said toxin

My headcanon (again it's just headcanon) that each person have different immune system strength similar to Henry from Arkham knight so joker surviving longer then batman is just how strong person immune system is specially that joker isn't human anymore since the ace chemical change him completely maybe effecting even his immune system like joker blood turn others like him so his biology is definitely different from a human so who knows....

I absolutely thing physiological differences are at play. That’s one of the things I mentioned in the full discussion in A Brief-ish History of Arkham City, alongside the fact that Batman is doing nonstop, intense physical activity compared to Joker’s near-constant bedrest.

Thanks! Don’t worry, I do this to be as genuinely “me” as I can with my content; as arbitrarily as UA-cam’s whims change chasing corporate trends, I’m definitely not going to try and pivot to anything that wouldn’t be genuine for me, considering how UA-cam would still likely move to something else following regardless. The support that does come my way is greatly appreciated!

Thanks for the feedback. To some degree, since I’ve not recorded my own Arkham Knight story playthrough yet (and I always try to use my own footage as much as possible), there definitely limitations on what I could reasonably cut to at times.

Nah the bad blood theory is good. Considering it’s on the Arkham iceberg and it makes sense since to why batman is dying faster than Joker

    • @BaneShake
      @BaneShake  3 місяці тому +7

I mean, those don’t change the thorough deconstruction I gave here. It really doesn’t make sense when scrutinized.
I’ll summarize things I pointed out in my other video which can also explain the different timing since I left it out here (which I actually did for timing reasons, but mocked myself as being lazy because it is a better gag for this video):
-Physiological differences. Different people will simply have different vulnerabilities or resistances to different substances and illnesses.
-Physical activity. Joker has been under bedrest and medical care for most of this time. Batman has been doing intense physical activity nonstop all night. Those are plausible reasons to speed up or slow down the damage the toxin is doing.
Don’t get me wrong, the Arkham iceberg is certainly neat, and has interesting stuff, but it’s not something official.

Taking it too easy on an “idea” risks muddling the message. When we’re constantly seeing wrong information working its way into widespread public opinion, it is going to be much more clear to be upfront and say “this is why X is not factual.” While I was blunt, I also took several attempts both before and after discussing the theories to reemphasize defense of the original creator even though the ideas don’t hold up, so I did already give buffers to soften the bluntness.

@@BaneShake you can't change someone's mind by censoring them. Deleting his comment only shows that you don't want others to see what he has to say.

@@J.Jonah.Jameson. It's a balance between giving people the chance for discourse and keeping things civil on here. I didn't delete the comment to "change his mind," since that was not likely to happen, and I'm not sure why you got that notion. I never claimed I was attempting to change his mind with deletion. His comment was simply a string of insults because he liked a theory I didn't acknowledge, no greater argument presented than that, so I took it down. Since I then discussed it here, in this video, I'm clearly not opposed to others hearing the idea he liked, but leaving a public series of synonyms calling me a "dumbass" was not adding anything to a healthy conversation.

Thank you! Timeliness is crucial for this kind of thing; since it’s so much slower to respond to a statement than to just make a statement in the first place, it would be easy to accidentally go too long on points that don’t need it, so I tried to keep video to my usual rough time window.
Also, I’m appreciating the carefully curated emoji selection in your answer. 💯
