On these machines virtualization doesn't work because Windows on ARM does not support x86 drivers. No worries. I totally forgot to include this in my follow up videos. I will have to make another where we discuss it. For now, I have been using this website for license keys for a very, very long time. Most of these keys are resold corporate licenses, which is fine, but they can expire after a few years now and again. When it does, you simply buy a new one for another $10. Great resource as long as you understand what you are getting. This has been my personal activation method for as long as I can remember.

Thank you! UTM's own instructions got me nowhere, but this way worked on the first try on my M3 Pro MBP. Slooooow, but it works. (I think the things that made the difference were in the few VM settings you tweaked, and the use of the ISO downloaded from Microsoft rather than the one downloaded with CrystalFetch.) Thank you!!

Emulation learns and maintains a library, Windows runs faster each time you run it till there's nothing left to learn, you can keep doing an install a few times to optimize

if anyone faced this window (UEFI Interactive Shell v2.2) here is the solution ,, Before this Window appears, the message (press any key to boot from CD or DVD) is shown for a few seconds. Press any Key as long as that message is shown and Windows Installation will start.
it will take 2-5 minutes to set up then.

Really good walk through. I have used VMs for decades. Never ran a MAC though.

This is really fascinating. Actually am planning to purchase Mac Mini. I like to run 2 emulated OS simultaneously. Do you think M2 with 16 GB RAM and 256 GB SSD can do that? In my windows laptop I can run two virtual machine simultaneously but in Mac I need to emulate those architecture so am confuse. But I heard mac have good RAM management so I guess it should work. But still I like to hear from you.
Am thinking to save few bucks in storage by not going for 512 GB SSD and will buy external SSD and store those emulate virtual machines in SSD.
For more content, I need to emulate architecture for malware analysis and vulnerability research.

Hey! Im having a hard time. After completing the user profile and doing security questions, it puts me in a loop of redoing my region, keyboard, and then the profile again. Im on my third loop and it doesnt let me reuse the prior loop's username, so if I keep doing the loop I'm going to run out of user name ideas. Any suggestions?

Hello, I have a 8GB ram macbook M1, and wish to emulate a game that requires 8GB ram minimum. Would it be possible to allocate all 8GB ram to UTM ?
how well does installing hardware work with UTM?? have you tried installing drivers alongside hardware?? love to know whether older hardware can be utilised via utm cheeRs
I've tested UTM with hardware drivers successfully so far. Unless you're doing something funky or uncommon it should actually work fairly well.
This didn't work for me.
It will go into Shell for me only even if I click any key when promoting to do so.
if you still have iso image, every time when you will run windows, it will load setup windows, that is why do not forget to clear the iso CD/DVD

for some reason whenever I finish setting up and making my account, it stops at some point or another, sometimes after opening Microsoft edge, sometimes immediately after setting up, it will restart and we're back at the beginning.
Edit: I figured it out, I was continuing to press buttons after restarting look a goof

Couldn’t you just use light burn for Mac? Maybe a driver issue still exists. Another option might be wine/crossover. All of these option would provide better performance (if they work at all).
You could certainly. The main reason in my mind is to perform lens corrections with corfile if you don't have access to a Windows computer so don't have to do them manually on LightBurn. Additionally some automation features in ez2 aren't yet supported in LightBurn and ez3 boards aren't supported at all.
Everything is fine on my macbook air M1 2021, although it consumes battery, takes a long time and gets quite hot but everything is fine. I have a question, once done, can I click "clear" in the CD/DVD and then delete the ISO file to save space? Thank you for this very helpful video!!!

On an M series Mac you could install Windows on ARM and it will virtualize and run quite a bit quicker. It will still run x86 based apps using the Windows ARM translator (like how the Mseries Macs use Rosetta 2 to run intel apps on M). Did you try this for your M1 MacBook Pro? Works quite quickly and smoothly on mine.
Windows on ARM is fine but Ezcad 2 will require x86 drivers to function and those are incompatible with Windows on ARM, thus for most of our viewerbase this method will be necessary for Apple Silicon.
i tried parallels originally and ran into that with usb drivers for a software i use... so trying utm out@@LaserEverything

A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:” Do you know where I could have gone wrong? Best.
Something in your VM Properties was changed after the OS finished installing. Could be anything from the amount or type of RAM to the type of processor or number of cores you are emulating. My recommendation would be to reinstall and make sure those properties remain unchanged after setup is complete.
Hi. My box for Spice Guest did not appear. You mentioned it would be on the CD in explorer. Can you tell me where specifically please as I do not want to mess up after that mammoth instal of Windows. Thanks.
Check your virtual drives in the VM's Properties area. Each drive should have a drop down, one just may be mis-clicked to empty.

The context around that portion is for our user base who wants to run ezcad2 on their mac for setup or tuning purposes for their laser. If you’re following along just for getting windows running but not using a laser, you won’t need those :)

Forget about anything that needs 3D acceleration, UTM emulation does not support that.

I followed all steps .. installed windows 10 in my Mac M1.. installed guest tool everything.

Check the "Network" settings inside the Windows 10 VM "Properties" section. There should be a few options in there to play with to get the network passthrough working. That's where I would start.
Does AutoCad works with the windows version en MacBook Air?
The emulation is already VERY slow. I wouldn't expect AutoCad to run at anything close to an acceptable speed.

I was looking for a way to just emulate Windows 10 on M2 and discovered that Ezcad software is not required to install UTM or any other steps.
Ezcad seems to be only for those who are into CAD CAM Software.

If you are getting this message the program you're trying to install is 64-bit and you've installed a 32-bit version of windows. Check your processor settings, make sure you're emulating a 64-bit processor and make sure your copy of windows you're installing is a 64-bit version of windows.

what do you mean by “emulating” the processor?
Emulating means rather than using the computers ARM processor to execute x86 instructions (which it can't do) - it literally creates a virtual processor to execute the instructions instead. It's an extremely resource intensive translator.

same here. Restarts on itself, tells "we think this will be solved with update", just a moment spins for a few minutes and cycle repeats.
Fail on install for me: 12:08 after press any key Yellow Words with Mapping Table and ends up with a Shell> in yellow prompt

@@oaw2780 it does work, its just it get stucks with the powershell. All you need to do is spam a key once it starts up

Simply running UTM again and selecting the OS will "reboot" the "computer"

It worked for me but when my processor is like 100% everytime without doing anything. I checked speeds and each processeur clocks at 1Ghz. Is that normal ? Do I have to change something ?
Hey there, I'm not an expert at this by any means. Kind of figuring it out as I go along as well but I might try a different QEMU processor. There's another x64 variant at the very bottom of the processor list. Perhaps that might make a difference.

@@sergisanchezgonzalez5919 notifications came in handy. So it worked but I have to point out. I use Gradle to make my builds and spinning up the packageDistributionRelease was a pain. I crashed almost everytime, but running a project (dev/release) worked okay. I had a 16gb ram M2 Mac 13" touchbar 2022 version. I tested it as well on a 2018 MacBook Air 4gb. That's Intel and all ran without crashes. So just know his configuration is correct but architecture emulation might not handle heavy IO processes

Checked the performance of x64/x86 windows 10 on mac m1 pro, in brief, the virtual machine works very slowly, so much so that it is impossible to use, explorer opens for 10 seconds..., everything hangs heavily - it is impossible to use, I do not recommend installing x86/x64, it would be much better to use vps....
