Literally just ordered the black gold version yesterday on Amazon. Metal parts and engravement, piston filler, these brands (Jinhao Majohn Hongdian etc.) are offering a lot of new design language each year with reasonable price tag.

    Hi Chris,
I'm back again. Great video. I'm definitely buying one of these pens but trying to decide on the colour. I expect that I will end up getting a trio. Thanks for your video.

Ohhhh.....I had such a hard time choosing between the red one and the black and silver. I went with the black. I still like the red one too. I am so happy with this pen. It has the best Chinese nib that I have ever used. I'm just impressed with Hongdian. I like what they are doing.
I figured out the nibs but I didn't end up needing one. I asked Esybuy. If you want an original nib you have to buy a set of 3 nib units, XF, F and M. Their sizing is weird. An XF is 0.6mm, the F is 0.7mm and the M is 0.8mm. My F wrote like a M. That's what I wanted, so I'm happy.
If anyone needs an original nib unit, it is the set advertised for the 1860 Max, 1837, 660 and N8. Esybuy is awesome. They got back to me right away.

Very nice pen, almost an ornament on its own right. Very pleased to hear it is a great writer also!
I think I'll go for the silver snd black combo, looks pretty nice.
Thank you for the excellent video as always.

I have been looking at the D5 for a while. I just received the D1 and have been impressed with the WF nib. I use either EF or F as I have been using less than superior paper, though Green Mint paper from of all places Walmart has been working well.
I may have missed your comment on the nib. Does it bounce?
I will look at this again. The red pen is a stunning pen. Well worth considering.
    Great review, Chris.

    A great pen Chris.
Is this colour red a different pen from the matte coloured pens on offer. Your pen looks like a bright red.

It is matte. My lighting brings out the color differently.

When will you review the green one?

I just purchased the green one, and in my opinion, is THE Best of them all by far. Especially the red clip on the gold cap with the backdrop of green and a touch of black is awesome. Master piece in its own right.

Would a JoWo or Bock nib fit into that collar? Anybody tried that yet?

    • @chrisrap52
      @chrisrap52  Рік тому +1

It should but why? The nib is part of the design.

hello Chris! Could you help me on something? I have a new jowo # nib. Out of the box had a bit annoying feedback so i tried to tune it. The weird thing is that it became smoother but when i use it the next day, it is like i didn't tune it and has a feedback again, though it is less. So i do again some tuning carefully and it feels smooth etc etc. Is it possible that the cap leaves some air and do that behavior all the time that i use the pain? Have you ever experience something like that?

Sometimes just writing with a nib it will become better. Might saw, "Breaking in the nib.": Smoothing accelerates that. Give it time, write on a brown paper bag with some pressure.

so can i keep and keep trying smoothing the nib for long time? When someone knows when must stop tuning preventing it from ruine?@@chrisrap52

Write with pen after some smoothing, not right, smooth & write again. Smooth until it writes as you want, then stop.

Hi there, I have listened to you, turned the nob without a key, and guess what? It spapped. Now my D5 is broke.

Why did you not use the wrench?

@chrisrap52 I took your advice, and though, Hei! This is less fidley than using the wrench, to be quite honest.

I might have to agree with you on the gold trims, but I find the grey trims to be more gothic in style.
