Kale: "You think I can't deal with a cat?"
Narrator: "He could not, in fact, deal with a cat."
*Morgana in another timeline*
Morgana: Hey! I am not a cat!
That they turned off THAT MUCH of the interface. That just makes me fanboy. That's so much extra work they did, just to have that moment. To give you the low before the big heroic stand. It's just lovely.
Figures the last boss would be Dan's old nemesis, Sonic the Hedgehog.
...For real, Roger Craig Smith did an excellent job as Kale.
There is a surprising amount of stuff you wouldn't understand from just missing the one lore tablet about the robot making all the coffee machines only put out decaf.
For real, which makes it one of my favorite running gags. At the time its just a random one-off goof like so many other lore tablets, but then it keeps coming back and rewarding you for exploring enough to find it. It's only a couple lines here and there, so its not like your enjoyment is ruined if you don't find it, but I love clever callbacks like that.
The way Kale gets flustered when someone says something stupid is hilarious.
"Chai would never say that!"
"Oh really!?!?!"
"YA THINK?!"
NO SH-💥
Also, Hi-Fi Rush deserves an award for some of the best cartoon voice acting I’ve heard in a game - just fantaaaastic all around, but especially Chai, Peppermint, and Cinnamon, and the Vandelay bosses.
Yeah like Dan mentioned, I don't neccisarily want a sequel, but I do want more of these characters because they are so dang well done. But I would really really love more games like this. Even not neccisarily the rhythm aspect though that is great but just the comedy, the characters, the length, the silliness, all of it is so good and just would love to see other games doing this in their own way
How about these characters are part of deep background lore in another game that just happens to be in the same world, though perhaps completely different? Playing the next game and ... "did you hear about Vanelay industries, what a scandle" ...
@@ICountFrom0 with how isolated this game is to this area and this company I could see it. Maybe it’s like 5-10 years later and Project Armstrong people are super common and you just see robotic arms and legs and everything just casual on people
@@ICountFrom0 That reminds me of the nitroplus visual novels. Some of the main characters from one game just showing up in another game on the equivalent of twitter.
I swear I've seen that happen someplace else, though.
A series of webcomics might be fun! It would give us an opportunity to see some more from these characters without needing so much plot to warrant a second game
@@NadirEatsRocks Oh yeah that'd be great!
In the epilogue, Dan you forgot to actually talk to Korsica! nooo the best character!
I always love how you can gage how long a game is based on how long it takes Dan to finish it.
It's especially interesting to see how long each msq section takes in relation to each other to me
*Gets an A*
Dan: "Decent."
Are you fucking kidding me !?!?!?! You did great!!
I'll be honest I was a bit disappointed when this was promoted from one off to full playthrough, but I'm glad you did it. The writing in this game is so much better than I thought it would be, both in little gags, and just over all story construction. It was a treat.
"There's even some great comedic timing" I'd hope so, it's a game all about timing.
Battle Cat. I had the exact same response as peppermint to 808 just less yesses.
This whole thing feels like a love letter to what video games can be. No task spam. No loot boxes. No bloat. It's just fun for the sake of fun with good characters, good art and good music. We need more stuff with this kind of mentality and creative freedom
And a good story! Like, sure it's not doing any incredible groundbreaking stuff, but it's well put together and well told!
Man, I forgot how fun this fight was. Legitimately hard, but _way_ cooler than Roquefort, in my opinion.
The only thing that I don't like about Kale is his second phase. I hate waiting around for him to do a specific move, and I do know of the trick that if you hit him like 3 times(not sure) he'll automatically do a teammate specific move after, but it just doesn't feel good, especially on Rhythm Master
@@battousaix4263didn't tested but Special attacks bypass the Z-shield from Kale right? It does to the normal enemies.
@@KARLOSPCgameIIRC you're right, but either way, taking down that health bar by destroying the arms is faster than damaging Kale directly and you can't get in enough specials to do that.
That said, the key with Rhythm Master is to parry the normals Kale throws out between partner attacks rather than force the issue. They come frequently enough that it's rare to drop below A.
I would like to thank this channel for this amazing playthrough, and thank this game for introducing me to The Perfect Drug (the song that plays if licensed music is enabled for the Kale fight).
I ended up listening to that song A LOT after I'd finished watching another playthrough of this, lol. The original music they made for the fight is good, but I love me some NIN!
@@Cyndersparx That song is, ironically, the perfect drug the perfect drug the perfect drug the perfe-
Easily one of my favorite games in the last few years, what a delight.
Love this game :D
WISH it got more recognition
it NEEDS to win some award in The game awards.
"We're a cat: this is a good boss fight" 😄
23:30 I played through with the stream-safe soundtrack first, then the licensed music afterward, and I ended up liking the original tracks way better! Their in house band did an incredible job and with one exception (Invaders Must Die as you storm the tower is admittedly incredible) I felt the original stuff just better fit the narrative and tone.
Yeag, the cafeteria - atrium section is the only one I actively recommend people play with the licensed music. Intruder is a fantastic tune in its own right but I've never gotten so hyped over a single level before than with Invaders Must Die there. It's segmented so well and really sells that pitch of "what if the pub scene from Shaun of the Dead was a game?"
Have to say, this playthrough was really my cup of tea.
Hey everyone watching this who is a gamedev or just think development is interesting and doesn't plan on playing the game themselves, look up the hi fi rush secret song it's beautiful and you'll likely cry, massive shame Dan didn't show it, it plays at the end of the credits
I've never seen a game earn the big power of friendship final fight so fast
There's some tight pacing on this one. A feature I wholly endorse.
This game is good. This right here is a good game. So well done, polished, and so much care put into it. Plus, a custom soundtrack of good music specifically for UA-camrs/Streamers.
This series has been a treat to watch. It even was a bit of an influence on my own work. Animating to music is difficult, but rewarding.
The doors are definitely worth coming back to and doing if youre ever feeling the itch to play again! I was pleasantly surprised by how interesting the challenges were and how much extra dialogue there was for them! Incredible game stays incredible and keeps surprising me into the post game!
Some of those costume options at the end are so good (some a bit weird) I kinda wish that was avalible from the beginning but I get why not
Another great play through done. I still have one question though. Where is Chai’s gift basket?
It's actually reachable. Though you need to prove yourself for it.
Can't believe we're already at yet another finale; and just in time for Dan to start playing sonic superstars😊
(I know that is a pipe dream, given Dan's opinion on Sonic, but I would not be against it)
i don't want to wish it on him he build up a sonic trauma
With this playthrough finished now I want to say, this game is everything I wish FF16 was. I know it seems weird to compare the two, but being how they're the last two games on the channel and all. Everything everyone kept praising the eikon fights for I didn't see in that game, they did nothing for me, but this game all the boss fights felt like what people were describing. Now of course I would have preferred FF16 to have had a real party system but if anything it could have had something like what this game does with the one character in combat and summoning in others, that would already been a big improvement. The characters and themes of this game I feel are also just way stronger, half way through we didn't diverge from the Vanadalay story all of a sudden, it all flowed as one contious and strong story.
what a fantastic game that tells a great story without overstaying it's welcome and then they give you sweet NG+ features and stuff you can do after. Amazing work.
1:40 Cat angy. I never thought I'd laugh this hard at someone being beat up by a cat.
2:04 Korsica deserves the lightsabers, Kale. (Also, note about Korsica, Zanzo, and Rekka: They're not named after food/drinks, and there's no reason according to a dev. They just also have names that are so close you can squint and see the reference. Korsica relates back to pears, either via spice or a common pear variety's scientific name. Zanzo relates to Sanzo water and/or Dragon Ball's Senzu beans. Rekka relates to a type of ramen.)
10:53 Weirdly similar to SK. Except that more gives you... I would say "I-frames" but I don't think it is. I need to figure out what it actually is, I just know for most of the moves you're basically invincible.
11:57 Yup, Korsica still done with this.
12:30 Love how everyone's personality is on display with something so simple.
13:10 Korsica?! You're supposed to be good at your job!
17:00 Turns out, this made for a good gif.
17:03 System needs update.
26:09 Wow, so much postgame.
Despite some issues here and there, Hi-Fi Rush is a perfect videogame, and I do really hope we can get a sequel or something! But if they can't get it done, that's okay. Like you said, I would like more of the characters, but also more of the fun as heck combat!
so, so glad you came back to this one! it was such a great ride from start to finish, and glad that you had so much fun playing it!!!
Ahh, I love the little background thread of Peppermint and Korsica, I hope those two make it work.
Hmm... Pepperca? Korsimint? What would that ship be called?
Pearmint. Because everyone's convinced that Korsica is a reference to corsica pear tea.
Wowwww what a game - I think this might have turned out to be one of my favorite games ever? The story, the writing, the characters, the comedy, and the worldbuilding all just *deliver*, and like Dan I kind of want more!
But, I will say that I am a bit bummed that the endgame (from Roquefort on) felt really rushed, and you can really feel that content got cut. I for one would love to see a Hi-Fi Rush Final Mix or something with the cut content fully fleshed out, so the ending feels more satisfying.
But even with that major flaw, this is still an incredible game that I’m still sorta floored exists at all, let alone being this good.
couple of fun facts. If you wait to the end of the credits theirs a song about how much work it takes to make a game and that proper credit is important.
fun fact two. At any time you can return to base and during some of the more climactic or important parts of the game they will reference this by breaking the fourth wall and saying things like "well SOMEONE decided this was a good time to take a break".
so when not in streamer mode you are playing as the cat as Nine Inch Nails is playing and its amazing
This play through was wonderful fun to watch! I love the writing in particular - there's so much character development through it all!
Also, it's wild to me that Kale apparently decided to just replace his WHOLE body with Armstrong tech. that's INSANE. He's just head on a cyborg body at this point. At least assuming that hasn't just taken the place of his skin instead of EVERYTHING, but even that much is crazy.
This game has been such a delight from start to end! It was a party all the way through.
And once you've finished the game they throw even more game at you!!! The devs put so much love and care into this it's really refreshing and delightful to see!
I honestly wanna see more of these characters too! Maybe a second game is too much, but perhaps DLC could be possible? I'm up for both!
I am curious if there will be any plans for a stream for ranking Hi-FI Rush music like with FF14's battlethemes.
This game is fantastic! I really enjoyed your Playthrough, Dan. It's like I've been to a concert, I feel inspired to pick up music again.
The game is just a love letter to "cool," from Cats to Guitars to Comics. It's absolutely shot to the top of my list of favorites, and I've gotta figure out if my laptop can run it!
On a more dour note, I lost one of my cats last weekend, so this playthrough has been a companion and a light amidst all the sadness.
Wish you and Carrie the best! Cant wait for the next one 🤘
From a random person on the internet, my condolences and well wishes to you. May the light that shines and the warmth that last keep your spirits strong.
Korsica just casually being the BEST
Honestly, favorite game of the year. Like, unless/until I finally get a PS5, there's no way anything will dethrone it. It was just so fun, and the characters so good.
Also - I LOVE that Peppermint/Korsica moment in the ending animation. Peppermint's little blushy is so cute. Even if it goes nowhere in lore (which would be fair; she's a late teen it seems like, and Korsica's probably mid-30s) it's still super cute.
A hidden gem of a game in a desert of bad decisions, bad ports and soul crushing situations
This playthrough was great :D Honestly, when I first picked up this game after episode 1, I was expecting charm and some fun combat but I really didn't think it'd be _this_ good. _Especially_ the writing!
I've since completed multiple playthroughs across the different difficulties and went around clearing the achievements and it's been great. Might be my game of the year (though I haven't played any of the BIG hitters yet...)
My goodness, what an absolute DELIGHT! I was just watching, but it felt extremely satisfying on all counts! I am so very glad I was able to experience this through you, because I certainly would have not even looked at it, sadly, so thank you very much Dan! (heck as not good as the genres this game is I will definitely be grabbing this in the future!)
I love how even in this game, the "real gane unlocks at post game" trope if AAA is still here. But for once the actual getting there was worth its price on its own.
Aww, there was a really cute song near the end of the credits that comments on the game industry. Sad you skipped it
That moment when Chai is wiser than Peppermint about something XD
I'm furious, I was thinking about this game while I was working and I realized all the good characters are tasty things like pepermint and cinnamon and the villain is kale, the leafy green, I can't believe this, expecialy since I kinda like kale. I'm fuming
Holy Crap, I hadn't known Shinji Mikami helped on this one.
.... In retrospect, wow, that makes a *lot* of sense.
This game is SO good. I love all of our team, I love the humor, the animation was amazing, and I love that it surprised us by allowing us to play 808 at the end!! But considering that the gameplay looks way out of my skill range, I'm so glad you played it for the channel. This was great!
Man, what a great game and another Playframe hit. I wasn't keen on this going to full playthrough and I was completely wrong. Good writing, tight storyline and amazing graphics. Thank you for sharing this game, Dan.
This was a wonderful playthrough, thanks for so much amazing work! And yeah, it was great getting something just so dang FUN..... I mean, how can you not love a game that lets you beat up the final boss as a kitty!?
Such an amazing game. I loved the bossfight and 808 was awesome! They really managed to give every party member a spotlight and that's so cool 💛
This was an absolute delight, thank you for coming back to this game!!
This game is so incredible! Thanks for the series Dan and Carrie!
So glad you went back to finish out this game, such a gorgeous style and design!
Kale gets a lightsaber?! ...but why is it blue that should be red, at the very least to go with his outfit
oh wait nevermind haha
Delightful palette cleanser 🤘💚😆
Congrats on beating the game! \o/ I can't myself play this so I've watched this twice and I love it so much still and seriously I'm so happy too you decided to finish it
So genuinely I'm wondering, is this a perfect game? Not THE perfect game because I don't think that can exist, but is this game a perfect version of itself? Is there a hypothetical version of this game that executes the things this game was trying to do better than the actual game we now have? I am inclined to think no, that barring maybe the slightest few bits of polish here and there, this game couldn't be substantively improved. Everything about it just works so well together and the sum of its parts is phenomenal.
I absolutely loved this game!! I love watching you guys play games. Your so much fun and entertaining!!! Now for the next series. What will it be 😊
This was great! I've enjoyed watching you play this. :)
It does feel weird to have a weekday series end in fewer than 30 episodes. XD
I was really REALLY hoping the guitar would upgrade from junk, to a gulwing, to a DUAL NECK gulwing (FLCL), but, apparently not, heh. Guess they couldn't sneak it in, eh?
(unless it's hiding in the gear shop?) (nope, maybe it wasn't possible with the existing animations)
Not the most familiar with FLCL myself, but if you want to see a game with a weaponized multi-necked guitar:
Brütal Legend has a character who uses a four-necked guitar called the Hydra to cast magic. It's wielded by an alternative metal BDSM religion themed demon emperor voiced by Tim Curry.
It doesn't appear much in the campaign, though gets seen whenever it's used for magical Solo attacks in multiplayer.
Ah, it's in the multiplayer stuff, that would be why it slipped my mind. I remember the game, but not the guitar. Did you know somebody actually MADE the hydra, and can play it?
Did you guys decide what game to play next? I would love it if you played Lies of P.
I'm hoping someone will draw their attention to Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical.
I'm also still hoping that they'll do Life Is Strange someday, but I've made my peace with that one...
This was so much fun! I loved this from start to finish.
i just googled chai uses a gibson flying v in cherry red made around 2007
23:29
The Gibson credits.
And thus ends the greatest cyberpunk game ever made.
Please do a bonus SPECTRA episode!
Man, I am so glad Dan played this game. I absolutely love the characters, but know I hated the gameplay. As someone who completely sucks at character action games, and rhythm games, playing Hi-Fi Rush...sucked. I absolutely despised the experience, especially because it stonewalled me from getting to see more of the characters. Luckily, I don't have to be good enough to beat a game to enjoy it these days.
Thanks Dan!
Game of the Year
Straight up great game, no notes.
Yay the good monolithic corporation won!
