Fran seems to have a gift for seeing natural things in the landscape and plants that can be used for all sorts of things, be it for food or for medicine, we city types seem to have lost that ability over time.............................'Onya Fran!!
I'm sure we all still have these instincts but as we don't use them they get lost. I have just always had a fascination for wild plants and herbs even though I was brought up in London, and I remember so much that in have read about them.
Looking at the reconstruction of the old canal, you never realize what you had until you lose it. So glad they are rebuilding. Future generations will be able to enjoy the waterways and the history that comes along with it.
Used to do that with my Ford Mondeo 2002 . When you put carb cleaner through the air inlet it causes the engine to full rev and burns out all the garbage , all the black stuff comes out the back . Obviously it works with all diesel engines ....... Or , in the car , you can wait until someone is up your butt and then drop the clutch and hit the accelerator pedal , black smoke billows out the back and the butt lover disappears into the far distance behind you ha ha ha ha .Happy New Year .
Glad to see you took some time off for just yourselves! So happy to see the new vlog, though - always so very interesting and fun. I must tell you how much I adore watching how Jess follows Archie so closely. They must be best of buddies. Enjoy, and be safe!
Thanks Lisa. Jess and Archie absolutely love each other. He just blunders of into the unknown and Jess just follows without thinking, then they cuddle up in the same bed at the end of the day.
This was a great video. I enjoyed the footpath walk, reminiscent of Journey with Jono and the photography in this episode was lovely. The drone is fantastic, I really love that footage. Thanks as always.
Well, hey, on the up side you were certain where the shallow areas of that one pound were! Man, the flow rate it took to fill that pound in that amount of time.
We love watching your videos, you are both very natural in front of the camera. We travel to the UK each year from Western Australia to travel around the cut on our narrowboat "Lazy Bee". While we are home we miss the lifestyle so much that watching your videos keeps us going until we next get there(only 90 days until we fly out again).
ive emailed you a link to a website they sell rechargeable heated socks and gloves ,they last three hours charged i bought them for fishing absolutly great cheers ps love your channel
Best wishes for the New Year. The empty pound was an entertaining experience for you. I was interested to see how quickly it filled. Look forward to more drone footage. Take care. Alan
You two look refreshed, canal life is suiting you well. Upgrade ? Nah, you have a lovely Narra and I wonder how many people look at your Narra with envy. I bet theres quite a few. New Years greetings by the way, here we go again, good innit....lol
Your right Gaz. We do have a lovely boat and we're really enjoying her. We just had a little 'moment' after seeing lots of shiny boats! Thank you for your comment. Fran x
Always amazes me just how shallow the canals are, you lose all perception of the depth when you’re Cruising along, then this happens and you’re quickly reminded
You guys are such fun! You have a fantastic grin between the two of you that implies a joke, a secret, known only by the two of you. I don’t know why, but it amuses me. Thanks for that. Just a quick New Years wish for you two. I hope this year is the best you have had, yet nothing compared to what’s to come. I wish for you both success, love, joy, peace of mind and the building of the grin and the private jokes between you. Happy New Year!
Thank you for that lovely message. We do smile and laugh a lot, but there is no secret joke I'm afraid, no mystery. Just happy with our lives. Thanks for your good wishes. Fran x
Happy New Year to the two of you and thanks for all the great vids. Sadly I don't have a boat so it's great to be able to share your travels and dream. Keep on keepin' on!
Happy New year to you both, a new intro for the new year too! You got dressed on crimbo day, it's better than we did. It's amazing what you learn from reading a book at bedtime. Another lovely video from a lovely couple. Looking forward to seeing what you get up to this year.
Happy New Year, glad you had a good time over the festive period and were able to relax away from UA-cam for a bit. Looking forward to seeing the adventures ahead and the work on boat x
We did get lots of skies. J have never seen so many and so big. Ok guess it's just that nobody can get to them overhanging the canal and they don't get chopped back.
Hi and Happy New Year. I’ve only just found your channel and am binge watching your videos. We have a narrowboat on the K&A, though we’re not liveaboards. We’re taking her up to the midlands this year, hopefully leaving before Easter once the K&A is fully open again. I’ve picked up some useful ideas from you so thanks very much. Hope we see you on the network somewhere! Best wishes, Nicky
Floating Our Boat - hi, our boat in currently in a marina, waiting for spring while my himself fettles the engine or whatever it is he does. We live close by so the K&A is our local canal. I love Fran’s weaving, the curtains are fantastic! I started weaving last year on an Ashford rigid heddle and plan to take it on the boat though I think your Saori loom might be easier on a narrowboat, (oh no, not another loom says himself!) Happy cruising, best wishes, Nicky x
Really enjoyed this in N.Z. - so thank you for sharing and making it so interesting. Regarding "painting" .. I'm pretty convinced that a two pot resin on a hull is much better than ordinary BLACKING (so now I'm an 'expert' without having even been on board a Narrow boat !!). Cheers & Have a Great New Year.
Hi thanks for the vlog, must admit not keen on the new lens or camera, don't like the "Bowl" effect, in the beginning, sorry, loved the rest. "You had Fran in the bushes" Lol, I had tears it was so funny.
Happy new year to you two, I really did think that it would take many hours to fill up that pound. Most of my family went back to work on Monday 7th January after the usual long New Zealand Christmas/ New year break that stated on Friday 21st December, poor things. 😄 Still you lucky 🍀 two are still on holiday. Sorry 🙁to hear about the low out side temperatures. I have forgotten how cold ❄️☃️it gets in the 🇬🇧 Uk Regards from Barry ☀️🇳🇿NZ
Seems like a lot of work opening the locks, but I can see the attraction to it. I live on the Wisconsin River. I have about 18 miles of water to boat on, but I'm restricted by two dams. It would be nice to have a couple locks put in to go further. Just curious if there are restrictions on the type of boats you have to use in the canal? The only thing missing is a few pubs on the canal.. :)
Hi guys! A sunny greeting from Cyprus! Started watching from episode one and working my way through. If you have a link (not Facebook !) for how you weave - let me know. Looking for the following info: What is the name of your type of loom and what size is your loom/what is the name of the type of thread you use (and any links to where to get it). If you are looking for a rural Off Grid growing and frugal living homestead (and all about Cyprus) video - please click on my icon. I too am looking for Patrons, but as UA-cam does not pay for nor promote any videos made in Cyprus (we are in the E.U and part of Europe!!) we are unable to find anyone signing up to our Patreon site (sad face!). Glad all is going well for you - enjoy (as we do watching you!). Thanks for keeping it real. Maybe one day when you want land legs for a while you may consider staying at our tranquil Airbnb? All the best. Dawn (and Mike).
Nappy new year, hope you had a good time, it sounds like you did, quite an adventurous video I must say, have you changed camera?, the quality is not as good as normal quite pix-elated in places, still those hot summer days are coming again, worst time to be afloat I expect, take care.x
Thanks for the feedback Albert. We realise there were a few problems with this one. Not sure if it's tvis the go-pro or the software but we're working on it. We're lovingvthecwinter, especially cruising on quiet canals, but we are looking forward to some sunshine now!
OK worth checking your frame rate on your camera and check your video editor is set to the same rate or as near as possible, worth checking each time you use the program, good luck.
Where you showed the canal under restoration they seemed to be building the banks at 45 degrees. Is that common practice? surely it will be impossible to moor there?
The canal sides are always like that but its generally not a problem as the boats do not sit very low in the water, but can be difficult if the water is low. Then we moor further away and use the gangplank. X
Revving the engine up will burn off carbon deposits. The engine will run better. I wonder if there's not an additive that'll do the job. Underway at 3000 rpm might be smoother with less nic nacs fallong off shelves. Hey, maybe you could start collecting old cooking oil from the fish and chip shops. Then when you motor by people will get hungry from smelling your biodiesel exhaust.

That quick refilling is amazing.
Looking at the reconstruction of the old canal, you never realize what you had until you lose it. So glad they are rebuilding. Future generations will be able to enjoy the waterways and the history that comes along with it.
Fran's hat, the final, front ear ....
Thank you, thank you, I'll be here all week.
That must be so frustrating, but it amazes me how fast it filled back up
It suprized us too, so much water so quickly
That pound filled up amazingly fast! Wow! Such a lot of water in England that year , such drought this year.
Yes there was! A little bit different this year
You guys are amazing, naturals! Hope I settle in as well to that life when I leave Spain with mom.
I hope so too!
Just wanted to thank you both for bringing sunshine to my life x
Thank you.
Fab vlog as always Fran & Rich. Amazing how quick you filled the empty pound up. Great drone footage Rich. Have a fab New year guys xxx

If there were ever two more suited people in a relationship, I haven’t met them. Rich, when dodging falling trees, I’m sure you count your blessings.
That's a lovely comment Doug. Thank you
Fran x
I do indeed Doug, cheers Rich.
This was a great video. I enjoyed the footpath walk, reminiscent of Journey with Jono and the photography in this episode was lovely. The drone is fantastic, I really love that footage. Thanks as always.

Happy New Year Guys
Just found you guys, happy new year to you both and have a great year and sub.
Happy new year!.. 👍🏻
Happy new year rich and fran should have popped round for a cupper I’m close to Tesco’s by the bridge in Leighton buzzard
Oh that's a shame. We lived Leighton buzzard. We bought coffee beans sold to us in a paper bag, no plastic 😁
You might check into diesel fuel additives, to help combat the issues of the engine running at low rpms.
Seems like a lot of work opening the locks, but I can see the attraction to it. I live on the Wisconsin River. I have about 18 miles of water to boat on, but I'm restricted by two dams. Thanks Alsn Rich. says he hadn't noticed any difference!
Hi you guys, did Fran get her slow berries if not let me know I would like to send you a gift of damson gin! From my garden here in Blackpool.
👍👍👍
went from episdoe 36 to 38 what went on between these two episodes? What is the title of it?
Learnt one can stay 2 weeks on a canal unless otherwise stated... just wondering - what happened to Episode 37?
Ah, sometimes the numbers go a bit crazy. There is a plsylist with all the videos in date order.
Please will you do a vlog on how to make slow gin when you get time, thanks.
Happy New Year to you both from us here in Australia 🍾🥂
Great , thank you. How did you get your sky shots ?
Rich has a drone to play with, a DJI spark. Its really interesting to see the canal and the locks from the air.
Then when you motor by people will get hungry from smelling your biodiesel exhaust.
sloe gin huh.....hic
Lol, could you walk any faster. Got out of breath watching.
